I see some negative comments on the length of your podcast. I want you to know I appreciate your in depth classes. I’ve been in and taught plenty of short class and know that the time only permits hitting the high spots and they become the only parts of the scriptures ever discussed. Your lessons are always full of new information and understanding for me especially in the doctrine and covenants. Not having much background in church history or a huge understanding of the scriptures it’s always been my least favorite of the scriptures. Now I’m starting to appreciate it. A half hour or so at a time. I’m thinking that to prepare and produce these you must spend at least double the time that we see. I know your a very busy man. Thank you for taking the time that I can understand my Savior and church better

I don't understand the complaints. I'm actually glad they aren't shorter!! I can listen a little here and there, throughout the week. And what better use of your time, than this? Watch this, instead of a movie. Listen to this, instead of a podcast. Listen as you make dinner. Listen as you get ready in the morning. Chill on your couch, with your eyes closed, and just listen and enjoy. Put on some headphones and listen while you take a walk around your neighborhood, or hike on a trail. Complain about how long this video is, or free up space in your life for it. It's a good thing to make time for, that's for sure!

Love the podcast…I listen to it on my bike rides, however, I’ve had to add an additional ride each week to get through each lesson. My rides are limited to about an hour (12-18 miles depending on my legs) every other night and it takes me 4 rides a week now. My wife says you’re not only helping my spiritual side but are helping my physical side as well. You are the best thing that has come out of the COVID world we now live in.

@@kevdonald1298 I have no problem with him taking as long as he wants. He's already made history as a teacher of LDS scripture. I cannot imagine anyone ever having taught the scriptures more thoroughly. I believe his work will change the Church to some extent. We have all been on different pages of doctrinal knowledge for too long, and many of us yearn for more. Seminary was a long time ago, and those of us who were there at all were not yet adults. Then there are converts who never had the privilege. It is hard to be a good member missionary when one doesn't know one's religion. Brother Halverson provides a solid bridge to that end.

Thanks for reinforcing faith while still acknowledging fear. To trust in God as one faces their fears is a test worth taking. I love the great example of the young Joseph F. Smith as he returned to Utah from his mission in Hawaii. He was all alone tending the camp of his fellow travelers somewhere in the desert of CA/NV while they were off hunting. Joseph was warn to stay close to the camp because there was ruffians hunting Mormons in the area. To Joseph's surprise not long after the other left to hunt a mob of ruffians rode in to camp yelling and cursing asking young Joseph if he has seen any Mormons. Joseph jumped saying, I'm a Mormon true and blue... The chief ruffians was so surprised at Joseph's courage he jumped off his horse to shake Joseph's hand as he praised him for having the courage to stand-up for his religion. He then hopped back up on this horse and left with his mob. That was faith and courage in the face of a fearful mob. That type of faith will open the heavens and cause your enemies to flee. Your brother Jared inspire that type of faith in tour listeners.

Thank you once again my brother👍. It seems to me that strength always arrives through opposition: Agency is a gift to learn to use wisely through our choices…through our faith to overcome the natural man, we are strengthened to do so, choice by choice…we learn that temptations are overcome by giving them no attention, and we receive strength from the Lord to continue faithful. Even the proving of contraries involves this law….in fact the universe could not exist without opposition. By faithfully choosing what we feel is right

This is more needful and obviously lacking in government today. We don't have honest, wise or good people running govt. Therefore the skepticism and distrust is justified. And WE must be honest and wise and good enough not to follow or support them. And we've been deceived by the wicked among us for a very long time. We need to change. We need to support those laws that are Constitutional and not follow their wickedness. It's up to us to have courage to stand . DC 98 is one of my most favorite scriptures.

I also listen to you during the week in my basement while working on humanitarian projects. Thank you, Jared, for all you do. We also love the personal stories that you share. Those are always great.

I cherish the idea of God proving us. 1830s Webster’s dictionary “prove” defined as “reveal under experimentation”. Forget the idea of a final test because God already knows our nature and how we will act. Think of this as an educative/learning experience that reveals to OURSELVES how we will respond.

I have truly loved your lessons and am grateful for the time you give to prepare as well as provide us what you feel inspired to give. When I am tight on time, I speed you up a bit. Evidence shows that increased speed can still be taken in, in some cases even more so than at regular speed.. I can hear it all and be fed, which we all need! Please don't stop, you've changed my life!

I feel the same!!! This scripture block has more verses in it than any we've done to this point, and as long as we're sticking to the verse-by-verse approach, it makes for a loooong lesson! I'll definitely have to change the approach next year in the Old Testament since verse-by-verse will be impossible, but I've wondered if I might need to start making that shift earlier!

@@Unshaken I love the word by word, verse by verse approach! As long as you have strength to share your spirit and insight, I will find a way to listen to both! 3 hrs can fly by like it's nothing. 3 hours a week is less than 30 minutes a day. The benefit of taking the time to listen to you far outweigh any sacrifice of time. Please don't give heed to those who can't figure out a way to take the time to study with you while sacrificing part of your message for wise men who do.

Hello. I am grateful for the time and wisdom you share willingly. I say/ask the following as humbly as humanly possible- How does Green Flake and Jane Manning, and many many other unknown Blank and POC Saints fit into all of this? I have heard in every channel the same mantra of "the Saints were abolitionists", but I'm disheartened by it. We know some saints held slaves. That's a fact. And that they held slaves long after even in the beginning during Brigham Young's time. I'm just concerned and confused why these truths are not taught or acknowledged? I want to teach truth in my calling- I do not feel great ignoring these amazing Saints in my lessons, they greatest among the greats. So how can I have them be a part of my lesson? Respectfully, thank you for your time.

The idea of forgiveness has always puzzled me. If a man commits an offense and repents and then commits it again, it is evidence that he never repented in the first place. Because repentance means all together giving up the sinful act. Also, I can't imagine that the forgiveness God is asking from us is the same forgiveness he offers us. If God forgives us, it is because we have in fact repented, and he, knowing our hearts, remembers our sins no more. But let me put to you a case: if a member of your family sexually abused your child while in his care, would you ever, even if he sincerely repented, allow him to take care of your child again? In other words, would you ever treat him as you did before that sin was committed? I think not. Does that mean you have not forgiven him? I don't think so. When God asks us to forgive, I think he is really telling us to remove all bitterness from our heart and replace it with love and well wishes for the person who offended us.

Brother Halverson, a thought and question for you. The parable of the nobleman and the olive trees in section 101 seems to indicate that, at the time of Zion's complete redemption in the last days, Joseph Smith will return according to the instructions wherein the young and middle aged are gathered to redeem the vineyard. Do you see this? As you've said there need to be Saints prepared to do so before it can happen, and I believe that is coming about. My reasoning is thus because while we learn about Zion's camp being one aspect of this parable's application, yet Zion was not then and still isn't redeemed. To me that means that Joseph, identified as the one servant, will return to do this and gather those who are so refined, sanctified, and prepared. I'd love to learn more of your thoughts!

How does this forgiving work in a marriage when the guilty one doesn’t repent but keeps on betraying the marriage covenant! I tried for thirty years, but it never changed! I was loosing me, so divorce was the only option. I’ve tried to forgive, but I do not want to have anything to do with him. Not only me, but my five children have also suffered the betrayals! Any help on understanding would be appreciated!

I know how you feel, I can emphasize exactly. I am not sure why you still have to deal with him, your kids should be grown and on their own. Forgiveness is not an easy thing, but do it for your sake. Ask Heavenly Father to help you and turn the problem over to Him. The problem belongs to your husband not you, free yourself. Help your kids to get over it. It is easy to get lost in grief over all the years spent in unhappiness, betrayal and unfairness, but choose to forgive and be free.

Not to forgive is like drinking poison expecting the other person to die. I survived a stroke 11 years ago and it so deeply affected my spouse of a 28 year temple marriage she ran down the wrong road, became unfaithful, and left after I found out. I pleaded with her to stay so we could work things out to no avail and we divorced. At the age of 49 I moved in with my parents to heal and lick my wounds from a completely broken heart. I couldn't talk even talk about it without breaking down and crying. Once my divorce was completely finalized, my Bishop asked me to get back out there. Hummm, I have quite a few health deficits, I had gained 80 lbs, walked with a cane, I'm completely broken hearted and the idea of even touching another woman I found repulsive. My niece recommended I go on LDSplanet. So I did, looking for the most righteous active woman I could find within 5 years of my age I was soon contacted by someone 7 years my younger looking for the same thing in a man. We found it in eachother. However, she wasn't expecting my health issues and and I wasn't expecting 5 children. As we started to get to know one another, I prayed for strength and more strength returned to my body then I had at that time. We went to dinner and the movie Despicable Me. While finding our seats I touched the middle of her back and it was as if a lightning bolt shot right through us because I later found out she felt it too. We went to a dance...all the music reminded me of my ex I had known for 33 years. The next week I had an experience like was in 17 Miracles where I felt my ex go away and this new woman come into my heart. The next week, not a single song we heard reminded me of my ex and it's been that way ever since. 4 months later we were married in the Idaho Falls Temple. Heavenly Father can easily mend a broken heart and heal the wounds from drinking the bitter cup. I'm a living breathing testament of Christ's mercy and grace. With Christ, you can get better, not bitter.

Forgiveness is such an important step for our mental health too. It’s not condoning but letting go of the huge burden that comes from thinking and over thinking about the unfair things that happened to us. That burden consumes us, makes us depressed, makes us lose trust in others and ultimately makes us unable to really fulfil our ultimate potential. Cutting ties can be so helpful to put a distance mentally between us and the hurter. All we can do is look ahead and create a brilliant future in our mind, because we deserve it, and so do you!

As I've thought about what it means to forgive someone, I have come to realize that we can forgive someone and still desire them to have a consequence for their bad behavior. The act of removing a consequence is not what forgiveness is. I believe that you have forgiven someone if you can honestly say in your heart that you desire the best for that person, and that you hope that they will eventually be able to find joy. We don't have to continue a harmful relationship. We can still desire them to have a consequence as long as the consequence will be for their good. I hope this helps :) I'm so sorry for all the pain you have had to experience.

DC 98:24 It is not punishment in advance, as I understand it. God does not judge us (or punish us) for what we do, but for what we are. (see DC 137:9. Also Moroni 7.) Being vengeful is even worse than being a bully. You don't have to act on your vengefulness in order to be vengeful. Just wanting vengeance reaps the same punishment as getting it. No?

One of the principles of federalism is the states had the right to sucede from the union as a check on federal power. This worked well in 1832 for South Carolina to reign in the federal government. This power was lost because of the civil war and part of the reason the federal government is out of control!
