I write from South Africa, an eighty-two year old who depends every day, on scripture study with Prof. Jared Halverson, who has brought SO much insight and perspective and so much love for and inspiration of, the scriptures, such as I've never known; and in my incapacitated condition makes my burden lighter. I feel sure his lessons inspire hundreds of others, and brings them closer to our Saviour. May the Lord continue to bestow His richest blessings on Br Jared, and all those who preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

In these last days, I am noticing that we are seeing the cyclical patterns of the bible. The people of today are as wicked as in the days of Noah. All of the political leaders and the elitists are as pharaoh of Egypt. In order for the people to become free, God is going to have to demonstrate that He is God and present to all the pharaohs all of the plagues of ancient Egypt and more things that are unprecedented. I look forward to picking up more correlations. I appreciate your teachings and showing different perspectives. May God bless you and your family.

When I started your podcast today, before you even said anything, I felt such a spirit come over me and a yearning for my children to return to the gospel, those children that I had prayed for this morning as I do every morning, and I felt concerned for my grandchildren, who are not receiving the gospel in their lives yet. I went back to chapter 7 and found the first occurrence of the statement “Let my people go“ and I annotated it with some notes about how I am making the same demands on the adversary to let MY people go, my children, my grandchildren, my siblings, all of whom he snatched from the gospel at a young and tender age. I could feel the foreshadowing of the mighty hand that the Lord would extend to convince MY people that He Is god and that nothing and no one shall stand in his way. I had literally paused the video while your opening music was still playing to annotate that intention, and then when I pressed play, you started to address the exact issue in exactly the same way with exactly the same parallels! You are following the Spirit and therefore, the Spirit is teaching all of us from the moment we press play, before you even say anything. Isn’t that amazing?!

Your speaking on the flies portion and distinction between the Egyptians and Israelites reminded me of a story told by our Stake President how a neighbouring farmer mocked his father publicly for taking time to go to church when his fields needed attending and irrigation lines needed moved. One night a frost swept over the county. Destroying his neighbors fields but not his father's. He remembered the neighbor remarking later he had seen frost do strange things in the past, but never before had he seen it follow a fence line. These miracles still happen.

Good morning, beautiful Saints, I felt I needed to share this with you this morning, especially for you sweet moms, and fathers who feel we have failed as a parent. I say to you, you have not, it's the Adversary, who because of his bitterness desires us to lose hope, wants to destroy our Faith. Through the scriptures, we have been promised Eternal Glory if we but endure, Trusting Heavenly Father and asking in Faith for our righteous desires especially when we pray for our wayward children. To some our children may not say what is going on in their minds, due to shame, afraid of what we may say, maybe the look in our eyes that they may not bear to see, whatever the case, in their hearts our children know they have been taught correct principles. When you least expect it our children can surprise us, it just takes time, we need to be patient and love them as our Father in Heaven loves us. He knows the plan more than we do and the time of healing. Let me share with you, yesterday as I was cleaning out my purse, I pulled out an old Church sacrament program, I was ready to toss it out when I saw some writing. I began to read it, it was from my son Edward, my number ten child he must have been writing it while we sat during the sacrament, and slipped it into my purse. It reads; "I love you so much, mom. Thank you for coming out for church and just being so patient while we all find our way back. I know it can't be easy as you watch your children do things you find wrong, and I know you just want us all to end up together forever. I promise you, mom, that with all of my heart no matter our state here on earth, God's love is so strong, he will not allow your love for us to be in vain. I love you so much, and 2nd thank you for always being there". Just when Satan is destroying one's hope these miracles appear out of nowhere. So my point is? Never give up and never lose hope. Trust in Heavenly Father. I love you, beautiful Saints have a beautiful week.

Thank you so much dear Sister. My two children went inactive at the danger age of 14. Our ward had no young men, except my Paul. He used to have his Youth meetings with the Young Women. He didn't mind, of course, but he had no one really to follow by example. My daughter never really got close to the Church as a teenager. When my husband Pete suddenly died at 50, I just couldn't face sitting on the bench in Chapel on my own, after being full of my family. I left the Church for 8 wasted years. I didn't go to another Church, as I knew that our Church was true but just couldn't promise to live the Gospel any more. I woke up one night and knew I had to go home. My son came to a Roadshow with me and I went back to Church, and rebuilt my life. After a few months, the old nag again came to me of being in Church in such a lonely way. Satan needed to attack me in the best way he knew. I prayed with all my heart to the Lord and said I needed to know if my children would ever return. The message came clear to me that it would not be this side of the Veil, but that they would return. This knowledge keeps me going, and the love of Family History work that I do. God bless you sweetheart.

In regards to the Lord turning the Nile to blood: Instead of trying to figure out a natural cause, i.e. red alge bloom, I had an insight that was a new idea to me, to look at more of a why did God choose this particular plague. Since God is deliberate and nothing happens by mistake or accident, one thought I had is that God turned the Nile to blood because of all of the Hebrew babies and children that were drowned there and on the current pharaoh's father's command, when he was in power. Just a thought.

Brother Halverson, you mention learning with an eye single to the lord. This is what I began to do some twenty-five years ago, consuming knowledge over a period of twelve years like a man out in the desert without water for days. I obtained my undergrad and graduate degrees but was far from finished. I was then prompted to learn, and learn I did, reading hundreds of books in theology (all the major texts), philosophy, economics, critical thinking, math, science, and so on. So, over the years I was able to teach composition, critical thinking, argumentation, math, history, management, and a few other courses. I've worked at a dozen colleges for-profit and non-profit, public and private, community college to graduate school, and what a great plundering it's been. I work the secular angle, but because of my membership in the church, the spirit does shine through, as I've had a few students mention that I sound like a priest. Yes, so we must dedicate all our times, talents, and efforts to building up the Lord's kingdom, covertly or overtly. God bless, amen and amen.

Thank you for sharing this lesson with us. I remember as a kid that I looked up to Prophets as perfect Men and that it seemed like I could never make it because of my many shortcomings. I also ridiculously thought they were perfect even as children! 🙄😏 However, one time I remember President Monson speaking in General Conference and he mentioned the story of when he and a cousin were playing with matches and accidentally set a nearby field on fire. Luckily family was able to get the fire under control and put it out. He was repremanded about it and asked never to play with matches again. I was so grateful that President Monson had shared this childhood flaw and how it helped give me hope that I might have a chance to be with God, in the Celestial Kingdom. I was so relieved that someone I thought was so perfect, was actually human. Now that I am an adult, I still have my worries here and there, but I am grateful to know that we are All trying our best to pick ourselves up after we slip, get back on our feet, stand up, and keep walking forward towards the Light of Jesus Christ. Speaking of falling, getting up and starting again, I know that if someone is physically on a path and they slip, sometimes they can get up by themselves and keep walking. Other times, we need someone to help lift us up. I think this analogy is like repenting from our sins. Sometimes they're small enough to get up, brush off the sins with God's help as we confess to Him, and continue on our Covenant Journey. Other times, however, we need another hand to lift us up and that hand is the Bishop. As for the plagues go, I want to thank you for sharing this insight and revelation you received for your students that day. I think because we look at the message of the Scriptures in a certain way so often, that we become like the Scribes and Pharisees during the time of Steven's testimony. Like you mentioned, it's easy to dismiss the scripture's account without really internalizing it's message and looking at their story as our story. Some of my struggles have been neglecting my spiritual nourishment for the Living Waters through these lessons and my own study of the Scriptures. As you mentioned about what sins do we hold on to and not submit to Jesus Christ and the sins we return back for, I thought about how I tend to spend more time with videos online, rather than indexing on Family Search or spending the time studying the Gospel, even if it's just listening to the audio on the Gospel Library App and reading along. There certainly things I recognize in myself that I need to improve, but I am at least grateful for knowing what they are and (unlike pharaoh and the water turned to blood), acknowledge that the problem exists. At least, I know in my head.

A thought about unlevened bread... It is much faster to prepare. It can take minutes to prepare vs hours with regular bread. Old fashioned sour dough bread can take a whole day to prepare , rise, and bake. You can make a whole lot more of unlevened bread, that will last a lot longer and take up less space, vs. the regular levened. It can be another instance of being prepared and ready to go when called.

You don't have to worry about not making the lessons relevant, Brother Halverson. You always do a phenomenal job at helping us see their relevance. I thank you for that for while I am a word person and I love the scriptures, I, very often, don't know how to identify much less apply the the principles being revealed through the scriptures. However, as I see how you interpret them, I am learning how to identify and implement those truths being revealed. Thank you for that. Also, your question, is our discipleship a part of our 72 hour kits? gave me pause and a doubletake. Your counsel for parents to teach their children from their own Exodus or Wilderness experiences as well as the scriptures, was a good reminder. Finally, the story you shared of a brother's repentance process, broken heartedness and Godly sorrow experience, and encouragement for you to do whatever had to be done because he would endure whatever was required to be clean and forgiven, reminded me of my own feelings during my own repentance process. It is apparent that the process is unique to each individual, which makes sense. My heart was broken long before I returned to church and submitted to the process but it was during the process that it was broken in a different way when first, the Lord allowed me to feel HIS sorrow for me and because of me and then second, when Father allowed me to feel HIS incredible sorrow for the suffering of His Beloved Son during His Atonement. That sorrow dropped me to my knees and introduced me to a depth of sorrow I didn't know I could survive. It was so.... I don't know how to express it. There are no words. It is beyond humbling. I did not know a mere mortal could experience that depth of pain and live. But, in process of time, it became the greatest blessing to me for it carved out a chasm in my soul that He has since filled with commensurate joy. Oh how I love Him and I will spend the rest of my life trying to show Him that love!!! He is precious to me.

107:08 biblical instructions before leaving Earth no matter if mankind does not want to agree that's just mankind following mankind adding controversy do not add or subtract anything from the biblical instructions before leaving Earth😢 if mankind will follow the instructions there will be no controversy and criticism mankind falls short of the glory the word of God is just step for step exactly what it is and everyone is supposed to receive it by the speaking faith comes by hearing and hearing from the ways of the words of God so that other people will receive the inheritance and leave the inheritance to our children's children😮❤❤❤

Was not Moses a step.brother of the Pharoh that he was Trying to get him to let his people go,they grew up at the same time under the last Pharoh ,so when Moses said he was slow of speech, he meant that he was raised Egyptian, and so Aaron was there to talk to the people of Israel. I just want to see what you think. In Egypt, Moses was a great speaker ,so why would he say he couldn't speak when speaking to Jehovah on the mount . I listen to all of these videos, and I do speed up the video so it only about an hour and a half instead of 3 + hours. That's all.

Hyssop is also symbolic of humility, repentance, health and sacrifice. Before the Atonement can take effect we must first humble ourselves, repent, offer up a sacrifice of broken heart and contrite spirit and then we receive spiritual health.

The idea of Moses as a convert to the God of Abraham, Isaac & Jacob & the Hebrews in Egypt never occurred to me until this round of studying the OT. Moses’s life as a member of Egyptian royal family, despite his biological heritage, he would have been more familiar with Egyptian deity than Hebrew’s monotheistic God. He would have been taught in all the ways of the Egyptians, schooled in their thinking, their morals & values, etc. Moses was probably at a point of confusion in his life when he came to know he wasn’t an Egyptian by blood & wondered who he really was. I wonder if his time in exile, in the desert with Jethro’s family was really a time for him to truly come to know the true God, under the tutelage of Zepporah & her family, ….what a mind shift he had to do. However, with his unique upbringing, he came to know God differently, with a different respect towards him, with different “eyes” on how to view Him…. based on his upbringing of how to revere the gods he was taught about in his childhood. I find it super fascinating when talking to converts to Christ’s gospel, to hear their story, & to feel of their strength & what made all the difference to them, to follow Christ…there is more authenticity & mindfulness in their following. I see them trying to do what they see is right & it’s based on their past knowledge & experience based on how they perceive or feel God & Christ should be revered, followed, treated, etc. I wonder if Moses upbringing is truly what differentiated him from all the other Hebrew people, when “a deliverer could have raised from among themselves, but in the end, God needed someone “outside of the box” who had developed a truly sincere & unique relationship with Him, full of faith & trust, like no other in the region/world at that time.

2:09 DOGS... SOMETIMES, people who were not 100% Jacob's descendants living in or near any part of Israel - Judea were called: dogs. It is not meet . . . Matthew 15:21-28 Mark, 7:21-30. I read the New Testament when I was a child after the Old Testament when I had put a question mark in Exodus about the dogs in Egypt. When I read MATTHEW 's account of Jesus talking to the woman about Dogs. I thought, "That is one of the answers to my question about dogs along time ago in Exodus and I noted the references to each other and added a star 🌟 for discovering an answer I had prayed about almost a year before. A year is a long time for a 6 or 7 year old reader. 🤔 I decided in praying in gratitude for te insight, that there could be more than one correct answer for my questions about scriptures.

Is there a symbolic or deeper meaning to the number 40? I noticed that Moses was in Egypt 40 years and then in Midian 40 years and then the children of Israel wandered for 40 years. That seems like a lot of uses for the number 40.
@charmaynedobbs20022 жыл бұрын
The number 40 is the most used number in the Torah and Talmud. It marks transition, birth, rebirth, new beginning and purification.

Question... In Brother Halverson’s teaching of the deaths of the firstborn of the EGYPTIANS, he doesn’t explain gender. If the firstborn was a female did she die?, or was this 10th plague applicable only to the male Egyptians? Exodus 11:5 and Exodus 12:12 does not specify gender, and neither does the Topical Guide. Any input and/or other resources would be appreciated. Thanks!

2:18:00 Exodus 12:8 “to eat the flesh in that night.” Without sounding like I’m off topic 😂 I found it intriguing why early inhabitants of island nations participated in cannibalism. I thought it might be due to lack of food on the island or even boredom😂 but as I have come to understand the cultures in greater depth over the years, they would eat & drink from the body of their opponent (usually after a battle of sorts) to gain the strength that was in the opponent…. the mana who died would be used/consumed to the warrior who won….taking his opponent’s mana. I know it takes time to accept different ideas, so this could easily be dismissed bc this is a new idea. But if you think of consuming the lamb & its mana (similar to children of Israel with the Passover dinner & the mana provided from God in the wilderness: eating & sustaining life in wilderness) & taking on the spirit of the lamb, by consuming it…making it part of you internally & realizing it is giving you strength & life, what a beautiful idea this could be. (Like all good things, I see people always twist it with a bad counterpart…like cannibalism & human sacrifice as well). I am open to anyone correcting me on what I’ve shared.☺️

Totally Off Topic: I would really like to hear how you address people who attack church because of black people and the priesthood. Have you already discussed this ? My Bishop recommended your podcast to me back in October 2021 and I have been listening ever since. You have blown my mind up with information I had never heard before and I enjoy learning where some things from the Bible come ( a lot of the Bible seemed so strange ) Thank you

@johannamartin91012 жыл бұрын
President Eyring spoke in depth a few conferences ago about his struggles with certain members of his family leaving the church It was heartfelt and powerful as he shared what he learned from the Lord to be the best he could be with much temple attendance to love them and pray for them and leave the rest to the Lord. We are all in His hands He has a precious plan for each of us and although the journey is long love and gentleness and faith are needed and will be remembered 😘🇦🇺

Question? Where in the scriptures does it detail the law of compensation? I have been looking for months and have no answer. Thank you Brother Halverson for your videos. I follow along faithfully. Renee
@sandrahurst41232 жыл бұрын
You will find them as you read. To start, look in Job. I don’t think this law is detailed as you mentioned, but certainly, there are many examples of it’s truth and validity throughout scripture, Church history, and in the lives of faithful members all over the world. Hope this helps.

Parlor tricks: Justification- Other members do this too, so why do I need to change? 1.) Blood: Entrenched in things of the World, instead of focusing on the Living Water of Jesus Christ. 2.) Frogs: Former mistakes, distractions, and sins catch up with us and cause a ripple effect for the rest of the things in our lives. Including Relationships. 3.) Lice: Some things can't be explained, some things are above us and beyond us. Mistakes of sins and distractions making things worse, not better. 4.) Flies: Division and distinction from others. • God of Israel and His People, Children of Israel vs Pharaoh and Egyptian: Good called Evil and Evil, Good. * Don't go very far: Sins and Distractions not very far away. Forwarding address- Elder Holland. 5.) Deadly plague of Animals: Distinctions between the Covenant Children of God and worldy. • God prospering and blessing those who will have them to be their God. Miracles happening because Saints are faithfully living their Covenant and paying an honest, full tithe. 6.) Boils: Distractions and Sins are personal and more real. Your obstinacy will break you unless you repent. 7.) Fiery Hail: Greater consequences. When will we admit our shortcomings and mistakes. *** How exposed to the wrath of God will I be? Will I repent and go under the Safe Covering of the Lord? Will I heed the warning? • Distinction between those who soften their hearts to the Lord and those who do not. * Consequences that might be seen and others unseen. For negative or positive depending on our choices. • This is enough. You're right, I'm wrong. Egypt is no more. This is not a perfect 7, but it will become a complete 10. * God, my Father will accept our sincere admission, even when He knows that I have weakness and will make mistakes again. Even if it's the same one. Sometimes you have to hit Rock bottom, to change. 8.) Locusts: Wheat and Rye. Land Darkened. * People in our sphere of influence may be pleading for our repentance, so we can have the same blessings as they do. • Certain sins: Selection and limitations of repentance from their sins. • Land Darkened: Become depressed for actions. Worldy influence can infect and spread itself onto others, including effecting the righteous. 9.) Darkness felt for 3 days. Like the Nephites when Christ died, the Egyptians had to endure darkness in fear. * The Saints shall hardly escape. While we can't escape the World physically, we can escape Worldliness Spirituality. 10.) Death of the First Born. • There's nothing left for us to satisfy us with these sins and distractions and we will want to push it out & away from us. • Riches of Egypt to the Israelites: Talents we learn from the world can be used and adapted to the things of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
