If you're wondering what that ticking sound is, then I can tell you that it's from the Hassler speed recorder. The s same type of speed recorder can be found on Class69 A/B and C before the C was rebuilt to C2. They are still very present on the old RC4's we're operating with at the moment until we get more modern traction. Here is a link to Hassler: www.railway-technology.com/contractors/computer/hasler/ And yes, if you're unable to lockout the sound, it'll turn you mad as a hatter.

May be its the vigilance device? Like after so many seconds it make a noise and the driver press a button, then if not pressed after awhile an alarm is sounded, and if the driver still doesn't respond, the emergency brakes will activate!

I love the old ticking of the hassler and the smooth operation of the controls 👌 Every thing is so digital these days Sorry for reminiscing , old train drivers do that 😊 10 shifts to retire🎉 43 year’s service Hunter Valley NSW coal train driver

I like watching her videos for several reasons besides being a relaxing ride on a train. She names every station she goes through so if you are following on a map, you know where you are. And if you are familiar with the area, it makes it more personal. She posts short messages about interesting things. I like watching the scenery go by, looking at the homes close to the train and the businesses. The vehicles passing on the roads, people walking their dogs, pushing baby carriages or just walking. A peaceful rural life.

After looking a little deeper in to the Rc4 after recognizing the designation, I discovered that the Rc4 was used as the basis for what would become the AEM-7 here in the US. Affectionately nicknamed "Toasters" all of us railfans out here absolutely LOVED those locomotives. A story from an engineer lives rent free in my mind. AEM-7 on the point, really short passenger train. Speed jumps up to over 100mph. Engineer (driver for you guys across the pond) takes the throttle and sends it right up to full throttle. Thing takes off like a little rocketship. Great power loved by all.
@kristenburnout1 Жыл бұрын
I love the AEM-7! The Rc series really were a revolution in terms of electric locomotives. They were the first in the world to use thyristor controlled traction motors, which meant you could have step free speed control, as well as no longer needing complex electromechanical transformer tap changing mechanisms. Here in Norway, the locally made El 16 (Basically an RC4 with a "snow-optimized" front end) replaced locomotives like the El 14 for passenger service, which used giant series wound motors and tap changing (similarly to the US GG1). It must have felt like driving a spaceship in comparison!

One of the greatest features in these videos is certainly the editing. The care and skill shows itself in some cool moments. At 2:57:49 for example the oncoming freight train for which RCG was waiting in the loop dissolves out of the image as though coming through a time-warp. It would have been so easy just to do a jump cut, but this took time, trouble and great precision. And yet it's over in a moment -- yet I am sure it would have taken rather longer to do that. These aspects are what lifts these videos above many others.

Another very entrancing video. Have enjoyed all of your offerings and am interested in figuring out the signal indications and as a serious modeler of USA signals am still absorbing the Norway system. Also I have really been captured by the fantastic scenery with all the mountains, streams and farms, etc. The Norway railroad system is different from ours, as mostly the freight lines are all private corporations and Amtrak a hangeron, except for the NEC which Amtrak owns. Our freight trains out west have gotten longer and also a lot of employees lost as crew sizes the same but fewer trains as all DPU locomotives are run from the headend engines via radio so only one crew for a upto 15,000+ foot long freight train. And any delays by Amtrak gets them waiting behind these freight trains.😄😊🤠
