We are going to Texas in July as a surprise for my daughter because she LOVE, LOVE, LOVES S.D Smith and the Green Ember. Of course, this mama is absolutely looking forward to all of the speakers and just being able to connect with other homeschool families. ❤️ This will be our first GHS convention. My 3rd convention, but the rest of the family’s second. I’m so excited!!

11,000 people attended!! I was there on Friday for 9 hours just talking to ALL the vendors. What speakers do you recommend? I’m planning on hitting those up next year.

How fun! ❤ Our Oregon conference is tiny in comparison. But it’s still great encouragement to get excited and rejuvenated for the upcoming year. 😊 My husband wants to come this year which will be fun. A night away will be nice. 😊

I would love to attend a convention! I am in New England and haven't found any in my area. I am in my 3rd year homeschooling a current 3rd, 5t, 9th grader so I am not familiar with this convention. Are there many secular booths and workshops that don't focus on Christianity?
@EverydayHomeschooler
@EverydayHomeschooler Жыл бұрын
There is definitely a mix of secular and non-secular booths. But many of the speakers present from a biblical worldview in the sessions.

We actually have a GHC convention coming up in my area in July (Round Rock, TX). I've been considering going. Question - Obviously, you can't attend every session. Are the sessions recorded and available post conference for the sessions that you really wanted to attend, but couldn't?
@ShawnaNash
@ShawnaNash Жыл бұрын
Found the answer to my question! lol - As long as you buy a ticket to all 3 days, then you can PAY to purchase MP3 audio recordings.
@EverydayHomeschooler
@EverydayHomeschooler Жыл бұрын
Yes - you can purchase recordings of individual or all of the sessions (at least at the Midwest convention this is true!)

This has been my first year homeschooling and I really wanted to go to the Ohio convention, but couldn’t afford it. Hopefully I’ll try to make it next year. I’m wondering if you see more people because more people like myself have chosen to homeschool after pulling our children from public schools?
@EverydayHomeschooler

YES! I was in many sessions where the speaker asked new homeschoolers to raise their hands - Easily half the room was in their first year!

I can only do three sessions a day max at convention or my brain is FRIED! Just that many make me so tired. It's always good stuff, but man! It wears me out! And I get mega sensory overload in the exhibit hall - LOL! I have to make a written list, or my brain is mush.

Ohio homeschool question: If the school district near us has open enrollment, can I send the notification there? Second year of homeschooling but my daughter turned 6 after the first day of school. This fall will be the first time I’ve had to notify.
@EverydayHomeschooler
@EverydayHomeschooler Жыл бұрын
I would always point you to HSLDA for legal questions, but you should send your notification to your districts’s superintendent’s office

I have noticed the uptick in homeschooling. We started homeschooling (started with epic for the 2020-2021 school year & then said, yeah no, we’ll do it on our own)& have been doing it “on our own” (is there really such a thing? We have such a huge community of resources, friends, helpers, etc) ever since. Even now, I’ve had SEVERAL people contact me to help them with information/getting started to start homeschooling their kiddos. We started after the pandemic started. I wanted to do it before my youngest started official school, but unfortunately my mental health just wasn’t where it needed to be for me to do so. Oldest (now 26) went through public school,let’s just say I wasn’t impressed. I taught him so much that the schools didn’t teach (& apparently his friends’ parents didn’t teach them either, as he ended up having to teach his friends things like writing a check,balancing a check book/bank account, etc). I’m excited to see how many people are figuring out ways to teach their children themselves “from home” (funny, because we are rarely home, it seems lol 😂 )!
