As often is the case I must upbraid Leo for yet again getting facts woefully wrong. It is only mandatory to apply milk first when using antique bone china, to ensure that the hot tea does not damage the craquelure in the old porcelain; otherwise, tea may be poured first, as long as it is allowed to cool slightly to avoid the risk of scalding the milk. "Left wing Populism". That is exactly the problem today. I often ask the other more active left wing person whether they believe the left can be wrong or evil this is usually followed by silence and hopefully some self reflection. I hope you don't mind but I will add the second question as to whether there can be such a thing as left wing populism and what would that would look like. I'm a Scot too and I travel between central belt towns for work. It seems like the Uni kids are the ones most affected and the non ~Uni kids most likely to understand what's happening.
@dutchdykefinger2 жыл бұрын
left wing populism is a thing, it's just that most of the lefy rabble rousers are generally shit at being good demagogues without showing themselves for the weasels they are, they're not really good at playing the benevolent protagonist as everything has to be jealousy and vitriol instead... they have a hard time presenting things on their own merits and end up being way too reactionary in critiquing the "enemy" on direct policies, it kind of rubs off as being rudderless if you don't have a campaign of your own a good populist can give people ideas of hope by throwing positivity their way, not just shit on their antogonist. this is why trump with his make america great again resonated with a lot of people, many people want someone that speaks of prosperity and future, rather than hear them only say what's wrong with everything. people want to be led to this light at the end of the tunnel populism works best when their advocates are not too directly reactionary to their opposition all the time, but pull their own plans and speak of that to the people, and kind of disenfranchise the other side through sheer outshining them and hardly giving them much daylight, it paints a picture to the people you're focused and determined, and not easily swayed, people look for that kind of stuff in leadership, whether i be consciously or not but i'd argue, pretty much ALL politicians that have their careers by the grace of being elected by the populace, are populists. they present themselves as a friednly towards the population, and promising to do better than X or Y, as soon as they take another politician as their measure.. they are already there. in fact.. just the notion that there's some other party that got a better deal, and that's why you didn't get the results last time, even when comparing yourself to yourself in new promises, is already an inference of there being a party that isn't the populace -> populism. you don't have to shit talk your opponents, merely acknoledging another party that zero-sums with the populace, and saying you'll do better, is de facto populism as you create a 3rd party that would not be as much with the people, the elite boogeyman that is required to really make things populism, that would even be just enough to start calling things demagoguery too, albeit of the mildest kind. then again, it's probably de facto demagoguary too... nothing about it says that it has to be an untruth, you can be completely truthful and still a demagogue, relying on people's "common sense" and it actually being common sense.... just like you can have liberal dictators, technically you could... the implementations of such however leave doubt to their actual existence :D
