People have always been sensitive. We just didn't have Twitter back then so we didn't see it. But try calling someone "gay" in the early 2000s, they'd lose their shit. I'd argue that sensitivity, in itself, isn't inherently bad. It's good to be sensitive to certain topics, and what those are, is entirely to your discretion, The problem is that these people are trying to make sensitivity and offense objective.

You probably also picked your audience correctly. One of the things that’s not explicitly mentioned in this is that you can’t just say something controversial like making an attempt at a rape joke, you have to know that the act of rape is horrible and traumatic to people and offensive, and ensure that it’s clear that you understand these things, and that you’re using humour in a way that cause amusement without condoning or encouraging it. It’s wit, and the finer line you walk, the wittier you need to be. A classic example is Blazing Saddles. Racism is horrible and damages the fabric of our humanity. Richard Pryor and Mel Brooks worked to use humour to rub racism in peoples’ faces and call it out for the stupid practise that it is. If you watch people seeing it for the first time today, they’re shocked by the liberal use of the ‘N’ word. Back when it came out it was far less shocking, though the message got through. That clearly shows that Richard and Mel were part of a huge change that has taken place, where society has embraced the idea that this level of racism was wrong.

I remember watching a Eddy Murphy Raw bit about when Bill Cosby called him up after seeing one of his shows. Apparently Bill Cosby had taken offense by what was being said during the set, and the type of language that was used to tell it. Funny looking back on it before cancel culture and the also before Cosby's own antics were all known. Funny to think that with all the terrible things he's done, still try and tell another comedian what he can or cannot say. As far as being offended by a comic jokes or words. Don't listen to them, don't support them and definately don't watch or pay and go see a skit and cry about your feelings later, that's a choice. As far as Cosby, alot of real people were physically/mentally hurt and offended, and didn't have a choice in walking away. Actions will be remembered more than words.

The last clip of Chapelle is very poignant and it's true. I always wondered why through history comedians were the ones making the most sense on the societal stage, no other profession is constantly writing, performing and adapting their work continuously, thinking about what it is they're saying and the point they're making. it's an ever-evolving art form that can be completely free of trend or fashion. Comedians are constantly thinking about everything they write and perform and the only things they're beholden to are themselves and their audience. It's how you end up with minds like Hicks, Carlin and Bruce, Chapelle himself is becoming the most important figure in the modern media because of his refusal to cow-tow to social pressures. Lenny Bruce would perform quite literally with police officers stood beside the stage ready to haul him off if he used the wrong word, it's sad to think how little we've progressed and the scary thing is instead of blatant authoritarianism in the name of decency, this suffocating of freedom, liberty and creativity is done in the insidious guise of equality, righteousness and fairness.

@@noeliajaime7656 I'm not saying nothing happened, I don't have a problem with acknowledging that something did, I can enjoy his music regardless, I'm talking about the creator of Leaving Neverland being a disingenuous prick, you can not for the life of me convince me that he didn't get any money or that he's not going after it.

Bill Blur: here's one about cannibalism. Why did the cannibal stop eating the comedian: it tasted funny. Here's another: One young cannibal asks his brother: "Did you like mom's soup?" and the other responds "Yes, but I think I'm going to miss her"

If you can't joke about something because a group of people gets offended, then what point is there to make jokes in the first place?
