He needs to own it. The correct answer is, "I felt shame right after the event, I felt remorse, and I wish I could take it back. What Chris Rock had to endure because of my actions in that moment was terrible, and he handled it in a way I aspire to handle my problems. Of course there was things behind the scenes, particularly with the relationship with my wife again being thrown into the spotlight, but I reacted poorly." Then you can talk about the tough stuff but from the right platform. He just immediately throws the situation up when what he did was literally criminal. He decided to avoid the question by talking about the random difficulties that people in the audience may be going through. He needs to eventually come clean and be contrite. What he did was wrong but it's sad to see someone suffer as a pariah like this; he appears to have mental health problems. Without a sincere humble apology & without asking for Chris' forgiveness - he leaves himself open to further repercussions like 'Outrage'. If Tyson and Holyfield could move beyond things then so can, potentially, Chris & Will. Will has suffered the indignation of his wife's 'entanglement' & now his violence - he's spiralling downwards. And Chris looked really hurt while venting his spleen on his Netflix special. They both need closure.

@Jiyū As I said, in "my opinion". Will and Jada have the most complex, complicated relationships. The unfortunate thing is they have always been three people in their relationship. Furthermore, as small as Jada looks, she is hard-core ghetto. Will can't handle hard-core, he is too much of a gentleman of sorts, (dynamite comes in small packages). She needed her first and only love, who had the capability to do so, Will is mostly heavily intimidated by her and always appears to step up as a reaction to what Jada does or says. Hence, my initial statement, the two are to blame cause if Jada wasn't, she would not have been enjoying Will's behaviour after the slap. (A match ignites a reaction)

So many people, celebrities included, never make a public or private apology, show any atonement or contrition to those they hurt. He has tons of money already- keep an open mind that he is sorry. Cannot believe how caught up on this people are over this. Will Smith truly never made a mistake in the 30+ years that he’s been in rap, television and in cinema. He’s apologizes for other disputes he’s had with people but other than that - he’s got a squeaky clean record compared to some people in Hollywood. It’s crazy how you’ll define someone off of the one time that they slip up and not who they’ve shown you to be for multiple decades. He could apologize to every human on this planet in every single language and people still won’t think it’s enough. Most celebs are welcomed back despite doing worst and apologizing less.
