comedyhype.com/ - Persia White would represent a demographic of women not traditionally seen on TV, thanks to the series 'Girlfriends'. On the show, White would play Lynn Searcy, a loving, spiritual young woman trying to get a hold of her path. White's accurate portrayal of her character is why she's 'Unforgotten'. @Mow13. I watched that show a lot back n the day I didn't care that much for her either. I remember watching the episode where it featured rapper Common and her first husband. His character was artistic, disciplined, and celibate and she wanted to try n break him but couldn't so they ended up breaking up. Lyn was nothing but a Wh**(rhymes with door). Even character Tony Childs called her that. Lynn had all the time for sexual activities but didn't have time to find a stable job.

Girlfriends was an extremely powerful influence on our culture in a positive way..... And the fact that the creators made room for a character like Lynn that was alternative, less successful, non-traditional and free spirited yet still in the process of finding their way as an adult (and make all that a positive realistic representation of how some people are) was a god send. A lot of us needed to see that and we need more of it.

I agree! Such a great observation. I think it’s refreshing to see a black woman doing well that is not an over achiever in the conventional way. White women are portrayed in all characters and forms, but we don’t have the same space for it. for the most part black women’s character portrayals are on opposite sides of the Spectrum. Always strong and put together, or on the street. I’m more like Lynn and I appreciated her character very much.

Every last character in "Girlfriends" played the role of a hoe (sleeping around with more than one man) at one time or another. It's sad so many sistas look up to a show that taught u its ok to be hoe when in fact its not ok at all. All those characters in the show could not keep a man or husband and all 4 characters had episodes where they were cheating on their husband/partner at one time or another. Is that what u sistas really look up to and admire? Girlfriends was bad for black women the same way gangsta rap is bad for black men. They both send horrible negative messages and encourage a lifestyles that brings pain and instability.

Jill Marie Jones leaving the previous season hurt the ratings, but then after the writers strike a lot of shows were cancelled and not brought back. _Girlfriends_ and _The Game_ both suffered from that but the Akils worked to get the latter picked up by BET. Neither show was promoted well to begin with before they were cancelled, and Mara complained about that throughout the 2000s and since. _Girlfriends_ was one of the highest-rated shows in Black households but was less than mid in White households.

What's ironic is that William was the reason heterosexual black males never watch that show but once we became older we realize William was an alpha black man.

It was hard to pick a fav out of all of them because they all brought something to the table including "William" but whenever I think of the show I instantly remember Mya and Toni scenes but Jone, Lynn and William had plenty of funny moments together!!! ♥️ ❤

Lynn, Joan & William's character had me in tears!!!! They were insanely hilarious! Yea u could tell she was playing herself on that show. I was like she is real life a truly a free spirited eclectic artist who is vegan. Omg most of the characters were so flawed like seriously flawed but were great!

My Dad and Mom loved the heck out of this show. I was younger then so I didn’t care much. I thought they were pretty but that’s about it. When I got older I found out Diana Ross’s daughter was the main character.

I loved the whole ensemble! Toni was my favorite with her bougie self and quick wit, loved Mya's home/ghetto/real girl attitude, loooved friend to the women William, I like how he was there for the girls w/o hitting on them. Joan who was the sensible one with her ish together. Lynn's character was my least favorite bc I wanted her to eventually elevate at some point, the free loader character got boring to me but I wouldn't have wanted them to replaced her bc she was a good fit.

Quick question, did Tracy Ellen Ross have bbls done to her butt? I only ask because in the beginning it look like she had absolutely no booty but I remember watching an episode in like 2004 or 5 and she was working with a "donk"...

As a mixed woman (black and korean) I related heavily with her character and still deal with constant controversy and negative attitudes from full blk women mostly, but just in general. Its sad considering our race already deals with negativity and discrimination from the outside. Why all the colorist and hate for lighter or mixed blk women from our OWN women, idk? But I hope more characters like her are shown in media so we can reduce this weirdness. Its mental abuse that mixed blk kids/ppl should never have to deal with in the safety of the black community

@@deonnadyson the film is called Wichita if you want to look it up. The reason I didn't mention it at first is because I didn't think it would be something people would see but then again everyone perceives art differently and most artists don't set out to intentionally make bad content.
