Warm Fruit Salad - A Simple Fruit Salad that’s so easy to make!

If you add mandarin orange slices and sweetened shredded coconut to this fruit salad, you've got ambrosia. I'm 75 years old and that's what I grew up on. Every holiday table at my grandmother's house had a big beautiful cut crystal bowl filled with ambrosia. Golly I haven't thought about that in years. It's time we bring back fruit salads and ambrosia. Thanks Tom and Melissa for rekindling some sweet memories. 😊

Melissa, I'm 81 and my mom always had to add cherries to the fruit salad because there were three children and at most there were three and one half cherries per can. This tactic avoided children drama at the dinner table😂

This is a compote that can be totally a part of every meal you mentioned. Compote was a staple of menus from the Renaissance to Edwardian England and this is a modern version. I love fruit salads, especially with meals that include pork or chicken. Thank you for a stellar addition to my cookbook that I can enjoy in colder months.

My Grandma used to make such a fruit salad, warm and comforting! Aversion....yes due to being fed fruit cocktail too much in school lunches and from our mom's! My Grandma used to put small marshmallows and shredded coconut in it, too! Some people add pecans or chopped cashews.

Tom, my mother (back in the 70’s) during special occasions would make a fruit cocktail “salad”. It was delicious, I think it was probably 1-2 cans of fruit cocktail mixed with 1-2 pkgs of softened cream cheese. She put it in a baking dish for it to set while in the freezer until it was solidly frozen she’d cut squares and serve them on a dessert plate for each setting with 2-3 full leaves of iceberg lettuce. Very tasty I haven’t had it for 40+ yrs lol.

Oh my goodness! I feel like I’ve seen variations of most foods and recipes but this was new! I’ve never heard of this or would have dreamed to try and poor something hot over my fruit. I have never heard of or seen a warm fruit salad. This is so interesting. I just have to try it for my family. It looks so delicious. And it's so special because it's one of the first things she made you when you were dating. I've always been taught to add a little bit of lemon juice to the bananas in a fruit salad. The lemons will keep the bananas from turning brown so quickly. Do you think we could add a little bit of lemon to the bananas for this recipe? If not, I don't want to add it because I don't want to change the flavor of the recipe.
