Middle-aged motorcycle riders with pre-existing aches & pains (like me), may benefit from motorcycle handlebar risers, a simple modification that can have a massive impact on your riding comfort.
Every motorcycle is built with a standard, "ideal" ergonomic setup. This works perfectly for the 'average' rider but let's be real, not everyone fits into this one-size-fits-all category. That's where fine-tuning your bike to your preferences comes in.
When you first hop onto your bike, take a moment to evaluate the ergonomics. Are the handlebars easily reachable when you're seated and when you're standing? How about the levers? Their position matters too, and you might need to adjust their angle for optimal comfort.
You might find that slight adjustments to your handlebar angle can make all the difference. But if you've tried this and still find comfort elusive, consider handlebar risers. These handy little tools can be the key to customizing your bike's ergonomics to suit you perfectly.
Middle-aged motorcycle riders, especially those with pre-existing conditions like arthritis, shoulder issues, or knee problems, can really benefit from handlebar risers. These riders often face additional challenges in maintaining a comfortable riding position. By raising the handlebars, you can reduce strain on your wrists, shoulders, and back, making long rides more enjoyable.
For riders with arthritis, the reduced joint strain can minimize discomfort and allow for longer periods of riding without pain. Shoulder issues, such as impingement or rotator cuff injuries, can be alleviated by adjusting the handlebar height to a position that reduces strain on the affected shoulder. Similarly, riders with knee problems can benefit from handlebar risers by achieving a more relaxed riding posture that puts less pressure on the knees when standing.
However, it's important to note that changing the height of your handlebars doesn't come without its own set of effects. Your bike's handling can change, particularly if the handlebars' alignment with the forks is altered. It's crucial to take the time to test and adjust your bike's handling after installing handlebar risers to ensure optimal performance and safety.
Adventure riding is all about experimentation, whether it's problem-solving on the trail or discovering what tweaks can enhance your skills. And once you've found a setup that works, don't think you're done. As your riding style evolves or in the event of an injury, adjustments might be needed. So keep experimenting and make your bike work for you!

Side Note:
These agility & skills courses/exercises are designed to help develop the fundamental riding skills of clutch, throttle, brake and active balance by the rider.
Precise practice in coordinating these techniques can lead to instinctive/reflexive actions by the rider and allow for more precise control of the motorcycle.
Mastery of these techniques allows the rider to more smoothly transition the bike when cornering as well as being able to react reflexively when encountering unexpected changes in surface traction in off road conditions.
Depending on your skill level, you may want to make the courses larger to feel more comfortable while you develop these skills.
Performing these exercises carries a risk of dropping your motorcycle which may result in damage to you or your motorcycle. Always be sure that your bike has the proper crash guards and that you also wear the appropriate protective gear.

As a short, older rider that loves the pull-back risers, I think they are the best thing on the market for someone like me. They change my ergonomics for sure by reducing muscle fatigue and increasing my ability to add leverage to the bars when needed. But there is no real change to the mechanical portion of the motorcycle. It's not like lowering the rear shock and leaving the forks in the same position, or changing tire size for aesthetics, which does change the geometry. Risers just makes it easier for the vertically challenged rider (me) to reach the controls and enjoy the ride.😄 We can't all be 6' dudes.

Taking time to adjust the controls to best fit you will make you a more efficient rider for sure. Especially if the changes allow you to ride with less fatigue. Some riders will say forward or backward movement of the handlebars will result in changes in the riders seated (or standing) position. These changes alter the center of gravity and handling. I feel that as long as the rider has spent the time to set the bike up as best they can to make the ride more comfortable and not just for aesthetics then ride on👍🏻

I just added pullback risers on my GS a few weeks ago and didn't see a significant change to the handling of the bike on road. I just took it off pavement twice in the last few days and what a difference! My shoulders, arms and thighs don't ache like they used to after a few hours in the dirt. Like you stated in the video, I don't have to reach for the bars or bend my knees as much while standing. The other mod that has really made off-roading more enjoyable was adding the AltRider pegs. I had PivotPegz previously, but the platform didn't even cover half of the width of my boot. The AltRider pegs cover almost the entire width and are way more comfortable while standing for long periods. And since they don't pivot, they actually increase the control and leverage I have while steering with my feet on the loose stuff.

Nice episode! I have a condition called Spondylolisthesis in my lower back. Therefore, I also really benefit from the more upright riding position. And being short, they help me reach the bars. But yes, the bike handles better without.

My ktm 390 adventure is notorious for low bars and bad foot pegs. I'm already tall at 6'1" and standing up off-road was ridiculous. Upgraded with bar risers and lowered foot pegs is much better for me.

Nice. I am over 50 years and have a riser. Sadly we need a damn official approval with certificates about tons of informations who allows me to use. Germany sucks.
