Bought immediately off Amazon as I've been waiting for this drop. The VM 30 was great

I'm sad to share that I bought the Comica VM-40 from Comica's Amazon store based on this review, and a few other reviews on youtube but when I opened my VM-40 box when arrived today, it had a used and damaged VM-30 and older (totally different) receiver along with a bunch of used accessories with obvious wear and tear, plus the windmuff was straight up missing! I purchased the mic because I have a performance to capture this weekend that needs the 32-bit float, and when I called Amazon they told me they can refund my money for a return, but there are no replacements available. So not only am I out my time and money ordering and dealing with their mistake, but I can't get a replacement and have to potentially give up the shoot (and $$$) this weekend because I couldn't get the mic I needed? I've never used Comica products before, but wanted to give them a chance (been using DJI and Hollyland), and I am appalled by this situation. Either someone scammed Amazon with a false return of older model product, which they didn't check, then resent out as new product, or Comica put the wrong product in the box from the factory (but it also has obvious damage, wear and tear, so I think it was used). Either way, not impressed that I have to deal with it unless Comica somehow steps up, cause Amazon sure isn't. And ironically, I would have likely given a good review to my 400k+ audience on KZbin but they didn't even send me the correct microphone! If Comica reads this, they can contact me via my business email on my KZbin channel.

Amazon should cover this. Send it back and have it swapped over. Their return policy is awesome.

Thanks for the review! May I ask if there's a reason for picking up your voice rather from the side like you did here instead of directly from the front? I just ordered the VM40 and plan to put it on top of my teleprompter which is quite close to me. Would the audio improve if I'd move it further to the side? Maybe less reflections/echo?
@Kirinji1kirinjiАй бұрын
There could be any number of reasons, but I suspect it's to avoid plosives. If the mic was right in front of him, any puff of air could overload the capsule and gets recorded with a loud boom.

Nicely reviewed. Considering the size and bulk of that deadcat, I expected better performance. How strong was the wind that day? It's nice of them to include a high-boost, at least. The range was terrible though. They really need to work on that.

Hello, thanks for your review. By connecting the microphone analog with a 3.5 minijack to the camera, can you also record at 32 bits? Can you record simultaneously wirelessly and with the microphone's internal recorder?

You can record only on the microphone but you can trigger recording via the receiver. I covered this in the video.

Thanks for your review Sir, the 32 bit float technology is fast progressing and congrats to Rode, Dji and now Comica VM40. Sir I did not hear you mention any lavelier mic intergration with this Comica VM40 or whether the VM40 is compatible with other brands if it does not have; or whether the VM40 has no provision for lavelier at all. I didn't also hear you tell us the cost price Sir and provide any link for whoever may wish to buy online. Finally, apart from the App on phone, does the VM40 also have Computer Software like the Rode? Thanks.

Did check Comica website but these aren't stated there? Anyway, for the Comica VM 30 there was a bug/problem that should be fixed with the VM 40. On the VM 30 the wireless audio used the worse codec possible on this microphone - is this true for the VM 40 aswell? I want to get into video making, and yet want to use the microphone aswell for Discord, audio recording etc. Despite being it a directional microphone is it still possible to connect to a PC?

@@GeekyNerdyTechy thanks for the reply. I am too late, since it is released now. I came across another question, but you answered it somehow - I want to be 100% sure though. Is the single-channel still capable to connect another microphone (even though it might be another VM40) for dual-channel? You saod something about stereo, and mono. Does it mean you don't have a L/R channel with the single-channel one, or did I misunderstand it? Thank you for your help, very much appreciated.

I’m quite disappointed with the wind noise getting through. I was super excited about this mic system for my classroom use because it will be an easy setup for my students. But, that wind noise is making me hesitant because we’re by the beach. Filmmaking outside of the classroom could be problematic with this system. When I was at NAB, I was so excited about this mic when I used it with my Pocket 3. But, after watching your video, it’s more of an indoors mic. Have you tried it in 2.4Ghz rich environments outdoors, like malls, concerts, etc? I didn’t have any issues while at NAB, but curious about real world applications in different scenarios aside from trade show. Thanks!

I would not use this mic indoors, unless the room is very well treated. Judging from how it sounded inside Shane's studio, I think a small diameter condenser mic would be a lot better.

plenty of aftermarket cats around and nothing stopping you placing some additional treatment over the shotgun before sliding on the cat. when it was shown on screen to me it looked like the fibers are to thin - usually cats are really shaggy.

My room is untreated but it's a great mic for indoor use. Experiment with the placement and if you need to, you can also use the noise reduction to help eliminate room sound (or just use it in post production).

I've been scouring all over KZbin for this mic's reviews just to find one piece of information and have yet to see: Can the mic, mounted on top of a camera (say, a7IV) output to the camera via 3.5mm AND record internally at the same time? I film wedding and have to record impromptu interviews of guests in noisy environments. I would love to have an "scratch audio" track recorded with the video but have the option of giving the 32-bit float track from the mic to the editor later in case something goes awry.
