Catch anyone by surprise and you have a chance. Catch them on guard and well you in trouble. Surprise can guarantee 1 second - 30 mins opening depending on the shock level. If its a jump scare it can be 1-5 second window opening If its traumatic shock like killing someone so quickly and close 5 - 30 mins because even if its traumatic some will shake off the stun kill you and then go back into their trauma. Now the trauma can be years but the shock and reflexes will not be stunted the same. Example if your mom or dad ever died god forbid the news i nthe hospital you will shock into a unrecovered state for possibly 5- 30 mins it means someone can come push u hold u at gun point and all but the next day even though u still sad someone might get punched for saying something bad about your dead family member. Basically Green Ghost was done the moment 2 members died im sure she aint have time to rationalize the horror or make sense of it so she left open especially when he threw the dead body at her. I mean everyone recovery time different so you must always act fast when this shock is set in. (everyone can be her here if their loved one is tossed like a ragdoll at them) I mean if i was a kryptonian and he did that to my friends out of nowhere i would be trying to figure out wtf is going on rationaizling how we go from 0 - 100 processing things and it might be for the 1st 3-5 mins but after that a great rage would embed in me if im still able to put up a fight by then. After the fight trauma would set in. Omni Man - Is quite strategic in his fights more then ppl think and he basically even force you to drop your guard emotionally.

The g forces alone would rip a normal human apart. Speedsters by default must have super durable bones and skin, and to accelerate that fast in the first place they must have super strength. Actually, yeah. The minute people started dying was after him. We see throughout the fight that Rush is helping his friends. You catch glimpses of him saving the Wonder Woman clone (forgive me) and obviously he saves the Immortal at the start of the fight. Immortal obviously being the one guy who has the best chance at taking him down. Rush was the lynchpin, but I think he didn't have enough in him to actually take down Omniman. He needed to be playing defensively, ensuring everyone survives so they can keep getting hits in instead of trying for jabs himself. I think it was really good character, though. Rush was depicted as impatient, so he tried to take on multiple roles when he desperately needed to focus on helping the others. If he had to take shots, focusing on his back would have been better to ensure he didn't get himself caught.

He went right in for a Sneak kill on their biggest hitter, and Red Rush *barely* was able to block it. They definitely made a lot of errors. Red Rush going on offense and Dark Wing going melee being the main ones But Red Rush clearly underestimated how fast Omni-Man is, thinking he could get a few cheeky hits in He takes out a villain casually in the middle of a date, tying the guy to a pillar before he even knew what was happening. Red Rush is FAST, and that scene is heavilly slowed down. He's able to Run in and get several punches, before he's grabbed, and his head crushed. All before anyone else can get up to Omni Man to stop him. That whole scene, lasted. Maybe a second Dark Wing going melee, is the biggest dumb move. He's got no powers, and has seen that Omni Man is fully going for the kill.

He went from immortal first for a number of reasons: his powers are the most on par with Omni-Man so when the fight is on he's gonna be able to match with Omni-Man, he's basically the leader and most experienced of the group, and because he's the most durable so he may have to spend more time killing him than the rest. The reason he waited on Rush is because he knew that if he was directly going for Rush then Rush would stay defensive and so he had to bait Rush in close enough to grab him... Which it worked out well for Omni-Man as he predicted Rush follow up attacks on got him. Then the Domino effect happens where he knows he could bait a few more kills which quickly narrowed it down to more manageable numbers.

You're forgetting two important factors here: 1. During his entire career working with the Guardians, Omniman intentionally downplayed his own powers. He never let the Guardians know exactly how strong or fast he really was. 2. Omniman has the "Batman Defense"; he has spent so long working with each of these people, he has had time to work out their fighting styles and potential weaknesses, giving him a huge knowledge advantage. This is why he went for Immortal and Red Rush first - they were the biggest threats.

Bottom line: If Omni-Man didn’t consider them a real, credible threat to him or his objectives, he wouldn’t’ve needed to bother with psyching them out and getting the drop on them. But knowing they WERE a credible threat to him, he knew his best chance was to kill a few important lynchpins of their team before they had time to process what was happening, get over the shock of his betrayal, decide they needed to actually take him down, and formulate an effective strategy (or, given their professionalism elsewhere, pick an existing one). He seemed confident he would win, but he knew them well and had been planning this probably since the moment they met, so wasn’t stupid enough to leave them an opening to do their job & overcome impossible odds.

Also, the fact that he gets them all in one place is so they don't know that somebody is coming after them and aren't prepared. It might seem like it would make things harder for them, but unless he took down immortal, war woman AND red rush before the other learn about it, he's absolutely fucked because there is no way they're not staying together on high alert after that. No one realizes the intensity of the red rush head crush scene, literally he had just stated to his girlfriend that a small conversation is like HOURS to him, lets say a small conversation is like greeting someone hello, takes 5 seconds, we also know that when you are in pain time seems longer, like burning your finger or holding a plank, so we can conclude that red rush was experiencing that pain for what seemed like at least 5 hours(1 hour in painless perception of time), this is evident by the increasingly desperate measures he took, increasing punch speed to the point it broke his hands, which means the pain was so severe that broken hands didnt even compare, its like slowly crushing someones head over the course of an hour

I always thought that omniman wanted to get messed up by the guardians as an alibi, making it more believable that they were attacked along with him. It made sense to me that he was holding back for not just keeping the fight localized to the HQ but also so that he maintained his cover.
@tropicturtle9021 Жыл бұрын
Even if he was holding back, it doesn’t mean the guardians couldn’t beat him. We know for a fact Red flash is faster than Nolan. The fight proves it because Nolan had to bait flash into a trap to catch him. If Nolan was faster than red flash, he wouldn’t have had to do that, even if he was trying to get beat up. We also know for a fact that the immortal and war woman are strong enough to hurt him. He clearly is feeling the injuries he takes in the fight. The immortal genuinely fights Nolan for a bit in a scenario where Nolan has no reason to hold back, and in the comics, during a time travel arc war woman straight up manages to knock Nolan out. Again, in a scenario he’s clearly not holding back. Nolan also had no answer for green ghosts power if she had used it properly. All these factors combined mean, holding back or not, Nolan losing was a very real possibility.
@devinmiller9765 Жыл бұрын
@@tropicturtle9021 never said he wasn't able to get beaten by them by as evidence of Nolan destroying the flaxans and going fast enough through buildings to cause a thermonuclear explosion more then a few times it would also be my guess that Nolan was again still holding back and the fact that he catches red rushes punch with ease after letting him land a few. We know that both war woman and immortal could hurt Nolan even the second fight with the immortal we see him hurt Nolan why trying to gouge out his eyes but it doesn't do any real or lasting damage and that fight seems to have been even shorter their first time around that's with Nolan also being distracted by the drugged up Kaiju and Mark being put in danger as well. I don't dispute the fact that the guardians could have done damage but in reality it seems that even if they did, Nolan was being calculating with how he could manage to get more time to push away the time of his conquest. Not to mention that even if the guardians were doing really well, even in the comics they show that with invincibles help they are able to restrain Omniman, the guardians in the show are pretty evident that as Samson puts it "we're fighting like six individual assholes" maybe not to the extent the new guardians were but they were not as cohesive as a they should be, red rush should not have gone on the attack both him and green ghost should have been playing defense for the team, martian man should have been more focused on restraining and being a mailable target for Nolan, dark wing should have been using his gadgets to keep Nolan's senses in check and constantly disoriented, instead dark wing throws a couple of explosives and tries to get the jump on the guy with super strength and speed, warwoman and immortal were too busy monologuing and trying talking about the why Omniman is attacking instead of on the situation and Aquarius despite being effective he did the mortal sin of fighting he pulled the same move too soon and died. Not to mention while they could have worked better together no one tries to call for backup against not only the guy who could possibly solo them all and more but if he was mind controlled like they thought, they didn't try to get help or a message out about the strongest hero on the planet becoming a threat. So again I still think he is deliberately taking those blows and is feeling them but I think he is doing so on his own terms, hell we see Nolan fight viltrimites later on and although a better match up he can still take on multiple. I don't think the guardians would or could be a major threat to Nolan if he knew he didn't have to hold back so others didn't see he was killing the guardians and that he needed to be injured too to make it seem he was attacked. The point is Nolan was fighting with a game plan and a handicap, the guardians weren't they fought with ego and confusion, they couldn't have one that fight.

The sheer shock of it completely put them on their back foot the entire fight.

While that's all true, the Guardians would have had enough experience that the shock wouldn't have hindered their ability to do what they need to do. Omni-man’s main advantage in this fight was the element of surprise. Red Rush basically saved Immortal from getting taken out right off the bat, so it’s clear that Red Rush was a huge asset to the fight. He should’ve stuck to keeping everyone out of harm’s way, blocking whatever punches he could and not directly engaging in combat. He clearly doesn’t have the striking power to deal significant damage unless his target is immobilised, and the second he went onto the offensive he got himself caught and couldn’t break himself free from Omni-man’s grasp. Green Ghost should’ve worked to immobilise Omni-man by phasing him into the ground and restricting his ability to move, since it’d probably be harder to break free without being able to fully move your body. This way, Red Rush can try and pummel him without the threat of getting his skull crushed, as Green Ghost doesn’t seem that physically strong as the others and her abilities leave her pretty untouchable for the most part. Martian Man can also assist in immobilising as it’d then keep Omni-man busy with two restrictors while Immortal and War Woman attack directly while Darkhawk and Aquarus stay at a safe distance to attack from afar. It’s a very interesting fight, looking at it from many different perspectives and the potential differences that could’ve been made. Definitely a huge highlight of the show in the very first episode which immediately made it stand out as a show that wasn’t gonna fuck around.

Idk why, but somehow I really felt Red Rush’s death. I think it’s for a couple of reasons: 1. We had just been introduced to him as the guy saving people at the White House, maintaining a relationship, etc 2. He also saved two guardians in the first few seconds of Omni-Man’s surprise attack. That’s why Omni killed him first (Red Rush would’ve just kept pushing the guardians away to safety). This makes him a really useful character 3. The way he died seemed so traumatic. Not only was it our first experience of the gruesomeness of this show, but we also saw the pain in Red Rush’s face when he starts punching with broken hands, realizing he might not actually escape this time. The writers did an excellent job of making the deaths of these superheroes we’ve only known for an episode so heavy and meaningful. Props to them

If they were under the assumption he was being controlled and that they were in danger, they'd hold back and catch a breather. I agree (as most people, and this video, points out) that if Red Rush kept saving everyone, the team would have survived much longer. However, I also think it's possible that Omni Man would have cottoned on to this tactic and adjusted accordingly. When Red Rush goes on the offensive, we see him land around half a dozen punches, always in a direction that Omni Man isn't looking in. Omni Man realises this, looks to (screen) left, but then blocks / grapples to screen right. This move catches Red Rush, exactly as Omni Man planned, and we all know what happened next. On this basis, if Red Rush kept pushing people out of the way, eventually Omni Man would spot this and aim his punch / lunge just to one side of his target, thereby instead hitting Red Rush as he ran through. We see on 2 of the times that Red Rush saves someone, it's at the very edge of his ability; i.e. he's not got any flexibility to dodge once he commits to a save. With perfect hindsight, Red Rush's best opening move (after saving immortal) would be to dash off to Cecil, and leave him a handwritten note and video message explaining the situation. That's not only thinking tactically (to bring immediate backup), but also strategically; even if the Guardians are wiped out, at least humanity has the key information passed onto them, instead of it dying with the Guardians. It's pretty demeaning, but actually the best use of Darkwing would be for Red Rush to drop Darkwing off with Cecil, so that Darkwing can explain in case Cecil has any follow up questions. It's demeaning but Darkwing is probably just best off as a glorified messenger boy! :'D

I'd say the lack of strategic thinking was mostly down to them being taken off-guard by the fight. I imagine that, for most other fights, they usually get the the mission details from Cecil and are able to formulate a plan of attack in advance. In this case, the uncertainty of being attacked by an ally was enough to disrupt their team's cohesion. I've got no excuse for Darkwing though. What was he thinking going in close? Was he going to try kryptonite or something?

The simplest answer is often the most likely: bad writing. The writers wanted to show the fight, which wasn’t in the comic. But the Guardians still needed to lose, and either time constraints or laziness led to these so-called veteran heroes making extremely rookie blunders or basically just setting themselves up like bowling pins for Omniman to knock down.

Yeah that's a weird complaint, that they're not acting strategically. They had no idea this was coming and were obviously not prepared for this (which for Omniman was obviously the idea). Even if they had theorycrafted some scenarios, the reality of this one hit them out of nowhere right there and then and meant being thrust right into it with zero mental preparation. They had to actually first get over the shock, figure out what exacly is happening and then make the effort to actually switch to acting strategically rather than just react, and the pressure they were under was sudden, unexpected, immense and BRUTAL. Obviously they're not going to go 0 to "welp time to kill our absurdly OP friend Nolan just the way we talked about" in a snap.

If Darkwing had been more like Batman they probably would've pulled off a decent strategy. Because Batman doesn't fold under pressure and would definitely be leading the team.

The simple answer here is 'Yes'. And the comics show this to be true. That said, all of them act foolishly because they don't seem to get the stakes. Immortal and WW standin were both physically capable of putting him down. They even show that they are capable of doing so with little effort. Each of them showed they were able even while fighting Omniman in short little bursts. Darkwing staying on sensory attacks, Red rush sticking to defense, and Green going for internal attacks whenever the others hold him down with their attacks/suppression. They were entirely capable. The major problem was really the shock. In the comics, Invincible fixed that by simply telling them the stakes and being living proof.
@Aegisfromashes2 жыл бұрын
Great video, fun thought experiment too! I think the biggest success point for omni man was surprise and shock. As you pointed out, even after several members were dead, they still didn't think it was really him, they thought he was brain washed. They were STILL in shock. This was their best friend and trusted ally, whom had saved many of their lives over decades. Then in about 2 minutes, he killed all of them. Some other interesting bits, with red rush, he would take pot shots at omni man from odd angles. By the third shot, you can see omni man faint a look away to bait him in. With dark wing, the reason he jumped in was to save war woman. She was one of their stronger members. Omni Man had her by the hair and was about to finish her off, so darkwing had to jump in even if it meant putting himself at risk, because they needed her strength more than his utility. With Green ghost, based on their fight with the mauler twins, she seemed more emotionally connected to people. Omni man directly targeted her, throwing dark wings corpse hoping it would get it to lower her guard. After the team was broken, there were only 2 people left who really do any damage. All he had to do was rip out the nucleus for Martian Man so he could take on the immortal and war woman. Neither of which were ready or experienced enough, considering omni man's extensive history of brutal warfare and infighting within his own race.

Only problem is that this is still a garbage fight. Red rush ran away from olga, fought someone, came back in a different outfit, all in an instant, all without breaking a sweat, not to mention that when he gets hit by his punches, he looks after he gets punched. Red rush punched him and ran away before his brain registered the hit, which makes sense because anything else is physically impossible. Yet 2 seconds later he grabs his hand, bullcrap, then LETS GO AND GRABS HIS HEAD. ...can I laugh in your face? Not to mention that this strategy is blatantly retarded as we have already pointed out he could run away and grab another hero and be back in an instant or a million other things. And no it isnt shock because shock doesnt do that, shock makes you freeze or act out of fear like running. I think people sometimes see this fight and think it makes omni-man look weaker than what we're shown in the rest of the show, but I feel that what we're really supposed to be getting from this fight is that the Guardians of the Globe are just actually incredibly strong. Obviously the Guardians of the Globe and Omniman were inspired by the Justice League/Superman, and looking at the fight by swapping them out with their respective inspirations, it feels a lot more right. The Justice League even without Superman are a serious force to be reckoned with, and although Superman could still probably beat them all, it would be a brutal and difficult fight. I feel the show writers created the fight by imagining how it would go with their respective inspirations, and why the Guardians don't get completely swept. The only reason it might feel off here is because all we've seen of the guardians is one short crime fight, as opposed to the years of familiarity we have with the justice league that would make their strength against such an overwhelming force feel more reasonable. The Guardians were a serious, significant threat to Nolan, Nolan knew that, he spent years learning their weaknesses and planning his attack, and that's probably the only reason he was able to win the fight at all. Viltrumites are incredibly strong, but so is the literal whole justice league, and killing every single one at once is a feat worthy of such a tough fight. TL;DR: imagine this was a fight between Superman and the Justice League and the difficulty Nolan had feels much more reasonable.

Also a random turret slicing through a mauler when it took all the guardians to stop them isnt a great look. For example, of he sees them committing to defensive strategies, whats to stop him bringing down the mountain on top of them, then just soft through the wreckage picking them off. I think the psychological aspect was Omni man's greatest advantage. Not just the morals mentioned here, but the depth of the betrayal and how Omni man has probably played the role of a weaker hero. So in their minds, red rush for instance might believe Nolan would go down after a few of his hits. I wish think there were limits to their combo abilities as well as their friendships not being uniformer strong with all team members. In the former you can see the stretchy hero does a great job of restraining Nolan but I don't think the fish or dark wing could keep pressuring Nolan without damaging the stretchy guy. Lastly, being the 'strongest' heroes definitely added some overconfidence on the guardians part. I mentioned how Nolan probably played the part of a pitiful peasant. But as the most obvious example I think the idea dark wing could've done anything to Nolan by jumping on him demonstrates this idea best.

Your point on #2: I think it’s safe to assume that the team probably didn’t have a strategy or plan of attack while fighting Omni Man is simple and one you alluded to earlier. The shock and disbelief that their friend is turning on them has made them loose focus for a moment. It’s not easy trying to form a plan in the middle of a fight with someone who you’ve known as a friend your entire career. You even acknowledged in #1 that they were unaware of Omniman turning on them. And now you’re scolding them for not having a strategy on them basis that they should’ve known? In simple terms: their shock and disbelief has stopped them from forming an effective strategy. I don’t think it was “for no reason” as you claim it to be.
