Also like with Batman(whose gallery is built on the evil counterpart/shadow archetype concept), some of Superman's enemies are darker versions of himself: -Doomsday: Both are Kryptonians with immense power, but Superman uses it for salvation, whereas Doomsday uses it for destruction. -Metallo: Both have Krypton related powers and are men of steel but Superman's ones enhance his humanity and are inherent, Metallo's ones are artificial and came at cost of his humanity. -General Zod: He is Superman, but with a sense of personal entitlement instead of charity. -Darkseid: He is Superman if he decided to use his powers to behave as a God ruling over everyone. -Lex Luthor: Superman embodies the perfect aspects of Krypton and Earth. Lex embodies everything wrong of humanity: a man who has powers and abuses them to the point of seeing himself as a god. -Cyborg Superman: Just like Metallo, his powers came at the cost of his humanity. -Parasite: Both absorb energy, but Supes does it harmlessly, Parasite does it harmfully. -Bizarro: An imperfect clone of Superman, but Supes is a good person, Bizarro is misguided, rather than evil per se. -Mr. Mxyzptlk: Both have godlike powers, but Supes uses them responsibly, Mxyzptlk uses them frivolously. -Brainiac: Both are aliens who came to Earth, but Superman came to protect the Earth, Brainiac came to invade and conquer the Earth. -Ultraman: Both are Kryptonians, but Superman is a down to earth guy, whilst Ultraman is a petty minded jerk. -Regime Superman: Are the same person, albeit from parallel universes, but Superman refuses to be consumed by the pain of his tragedies, whilst Regime Superman completely gave into the darkness.
