You know, I remember in the final episode of falcon and the Winter soldier where Sam Wilson shows up in his new outfit and an older black guy in the crowd proudly yells "That's our Falcon!" or something to that effect. And I thought, if Sam Wilson wants to be a hero for his people, he already is that. He doesn't really need the Captain America moniker for black folks across America to be proud of him or feel emboldened by him.

So basically, what i have learned is that Captain America loves America and the ideals of the country and is not bound by partisan politics of any side? Good. That's how it should be. Wish Anthony actually said this instead of his poorly defined and easily misunderstood statement. Also wish both left and right understood that like comic writers of old did.

imo, downplaying America *doesn't* make sense overseas. People going to see a Captain America movie want him to be a strong, charming Burgerlandian who stands up for his ideals. Like if Bond started advocating for a republic and sending the marbles back to Greece, or Mulan decided Confucian values are overrated - no ones sticking around for that 🙃

This was also a bit of a controversy back in like 2006 with Superman Returns I think people are just tired of it and want to know why it keeps happening. Not giving the shield to Bucky was a huge mistake. The story was setting up for him to have a very good redemption arc, and giving him the shield and have him be the new Captain America as he was in the comics would have been very popular.

One of the issues in this case is that his „not America“ statement easily sounds more honest than the Disney marketing clarification of „proud American“ (that one sounds 100% like marketing). I get that he didn’t want to be understood the way he was, but that clarification sounds imo worse, way worse. It just sounds so fake that it backfires, at least for me, maybe it works for other people (and I‘m not even American).

Marvel’s new movies have all the weaknesses and none of the strengths of the franchise thus far. From a brand perspective some of these film choices recently have been wild. I've served and I'm not upset by his statement. The way I see nationalism and patriotism is they're "hats" you can put on when needed. Like the old trope, I'll fight with my sibling and criticize them all day long, but the moment someone outside the family talks shit I'm their biggest cheerleader. Obviously captain America was created in a similar vein. So for anyone to be frank and say what we all understood him to mean, basically "Cpt America means more than the United States and imo isn't even the most important aspect", is absolutely valid and is entirely a character actor's right. His race doesn't have to apply whatsoever. I'm glad he's taking the role and after watching this you've got me pumped to definitely go see it asap! I want to see what comes through the actor's performance with that mentality, should be interesting if it's so interesting 😊

I get what Mackey was trying to say, it's still shockingly dumb what he said. That said, no one who is "boycotting" Captain America New World Order was going to see it anyway. The film was doomed the moment they announced a Captain America film without Steve Rogers played by Chris Evans. Hell the controversy may actually help the film from complete obscurity. 1. If he had just said that America is one of the many aspects of Captain America, instead of completely disassociating America from the character, then this would not be getting any blowback. But it doesnt seem like he could help himself from virtue signaling to the audience he was trying to appeal to. Kind of a weasel move, post hoc clarification or not. 2. While you're generally right about the "I'M DoNE WiTH THe MCU!!1" crowd and the impulse to consume contemporary culture, I am one of the few that actually has moved on from the MCU (besides the occasional Perch commentary). End Game in 2018 was it for me, and I have no desire to go back. Wasnt a difficult decision at all. I've spend a lot more time reading and going for walks outside. It's great. Highly recommend for those still trying to kick the MCU habit.

I phased out a little bit slower as I was still watching Spider-Man, Guardians of the Galaxy 3 and Deadpool 3 (though this one isn’t really an MCU movie). All of them done by the same people that did the predecessors (though not as much with Deadpool 3 as with the rest). Personally I‘m very happy with this selection as I got my farewell from the respective trilogies. But I think there is now nothing left. Falcon-Cap was, when I stopped reading Marvel comics, so why should I ever watch a movie about a thing, where I disliked the source a lot? The original Thunderbolts comic was great, but the movie doesn’t even have a single character from that comic book! And Avengers ended with Endgame … a movie I haven’t watched a second time ever. So yeah, seems like the MCU is now truly over for me.

As a non-American, it doesn't change a thing for me in regards to whether I watch the movie or not, but that's mostly because I really don't understand American-style Patriotism. It's almost religious in its fervour (or fervor for my American friends). You mentioned James Bond, but as a Brit I can honestly tell you that nobody here would care if Daniel Craig said something stupid about the character or the country. It would be forgotten about in a couple of days at most.

From an outsider's perspective, the question of what values Anthony Mackie's Captain America brings is an interesting question though. Like, Steve Rogers grew up with the America that believed in the Monroe Doctrine, and he would have been MIA when the Truman Doctrine came into being. Sam Wilson should bring different values to the table from a different America. Anthony Mackie didn't really touch on that. That is why US Agent came off as the more interesting character in the recent show. I like Anthony Mackie. The fact that he didn't have an interesting perspective on this topic says to me that it's not something that the writers thought about when they made the new movie.

I'll always like Anthony Mackie because of his role in "We Are Marshall", but ALL NEW Marvel "Marvel Now" sucked in the comics and it sucks in the MCU. There has been only three good MCU movies since "End Game", Spider-Man 3, Guardians 3 & Deadpool 3. Woke Ideology and DEI has ruined the MCU and killed Star Wars.

I don't get the international audience take. People around the world are aware of the juggernaut that America is. They're aware of what our values are and understand why it makes us the end all be all on this earth. I just watched Friendly Neighborhood Spider Man. It is good so far. Animation is not horrible, but it getting use sometime getting use to. I notice background of the Party in episode 2 is completely Flat. Spider Man acknowledges Uncle Ben. Spider Man has a Good quips that works. Midtown High is an actual normal high school. Not a school full of scientists. F You Spider Man 2017. Spider Man has that Parker Luck. You know where he something is out his control when he is spider man because he still lives by Great power comes great responsibility. Action, decent. The best action so far is when Spider Man stop runaway car and fighting Burnate. You know the character Wave? Well she is Peter’s crush but she dating Teenage Tombstone. Based on these two episode I give a 7 out of 10.

I don’t know about people, but I‘m one of the readers of Brubaker‘s run that was glad, when the Bucky is Cap phase was over. I get that it was intended as part of the growth of the character, but I wouldn’t have stuck around if Steve Rogers wasn’t back soon enough. I generally dislike it a lot, when a writer thinks it’s cool to remove the main character for which I bought the book. In that regard was Gruenwald‘s version way superior to Brubaker‘s (Gruenwald replaced Steve with John Walker, but kept Steve as the main character of that story, while Brubaker removed Steve entirely). I also stopped reading Captain America during the time they replaced Steve with Sam Wilson (aka up till today) and recently gave up entirely on Marvel, when they removed Moon Knight from the Moon Knight series. Yes, I really, really don’t like that „it’s a mantle“ stick.
