They gave Ultraman an origin before. The New 52 Ultraman's parents were criminals and when they sent him to Earth, Jor-El threatened him to become the strongest and rule the Earth. When he came ro Earth and the Kents found him or else, he threatens them and heat vision's one of John's arms off. Then he kills them both when they outlived their usefulness

I wouldn’t really treat the Justice Lords like a version of the Crime Syndicate, since they have opposite ideas and goals. And they exist as a separate Earth in the main DC multiverse.

@Superboy Prime sure! i felt the parts where they included other members of the sydnicate, power ring, owl man etc, wasnt really needed, i feel like if they did a comic to introduce each one of them, even if it was a shorter comic, would help establish who they are, cause in all honesty we, the comic book readers, know these characters, but newer people who get this might not

I liked how Ultraman's paranoia was used. From his perspective, it's obvious but the thing about paranoia is that it makes people see threats that either aren't there or are exaggerated to be way worse. His adopted parents probably did love him but weren't educated enough in raising a super kid.

That's the inherent issue with a series like this. Instead of just saying, "He's evil because this universe is inverted", it's instead saying "He's evil, _but only_ because this universe is inverted." What I mean is, the comic can't have its cake and eat it too. Ultraman can't live in a universe that makes him innately evil while also having a tragic backstory that justifies him being evil. It insinuates that if he was raised in the main DC universe, he'd be a good guy which is not the point of Universe 3

Even tho this origin created this possibility, I think it was made pretty clear that this Ultraman choose to be evil. In any other superhero story that snapping moment would be his call for justice and fighting for the weak.

It might feel like a 1990’s comic because it might be based on Grant Morrison’s 2000 graphic novel “Earth-2,” which very few people seem to cite when it comes to the Crime Syndicate. The title of the book may be confusing because it was set on the first post-Crisis on Infinite Earths parallel earth. Earth-1 was then called New Earth and the Crime Syndicate’s pre-Crisis Earth-3 was called Earth-2. It’s worthwhile reading. For my money, the best version of the Crime Syndicate was in the animated Justice League series - the fights alone were amazing!
