Commercial Tuna Fishing in the Pacific

I was offered the opportunity to go commercial fishing for the first time of my life 100 miles off the northern end of Vancouver Island. It was an experience like no other.

We were running up to 14 lines, two off the stern and six off each stabilizer, all different lengths.

In 2021 they were paying $3.50 per pound of Albacore tuna, and buddy was sure he could get even more if selling off the dock

You go wrapping your hand in the line and you’ll find out why you don’t do that.

There is a specific way to do it and have it pull off if something big grabs the fish. Necessary for pulling tuna.
