This is nice. I've just pulled my C128s out of storage where they've been since February 2000. I'm blown away by all the new stuff that's available for my fun, old machines!

I admire the way the C128 can (also) run CP/M and Turbo Pascal 3.

Me and my friend Jeff used to log onto the local BBS back in the day and download software (ahem!) to try it out on my 300 baud modem and my C64. We'd wait for AGES for a game to download, then load it up and....it wouldn't work half the time. Still, I remember those days with fondness. Some of the PETSCII BBSes did some very clever things with PETSCII animation. I was in heaven when my mom and dad bought me a 1200 baud modem for Christmas.

Thank you for sharing your story. It’s nice hearing how people did things back in the day! Thank you for watching.

I too started out accessing local BBS's with a C64 and 300 baud modem in May 1992. A bit late for most but such was my life at the time. I too remember enjoying the bump up to 1200 baud a month or so later. And then 2400 baud after that... and then I maxed it out with a 56k US Robotics before the 90s ended. Fun times!

@@LordHasenpfeffer Was your Commodore able to handle the data throughput of the 56K?

@@JustWasted3HoursHere Oh, yes. Definitely. Never had any problem with that which I can recall. Once I reached 56K baud, I never used anything less.

@@LordHasenpfeffer Now that I think about it, 56K baud works out to about 7K/sec transfer speed which a 1.02mhz processor should be able to handle with no problem. Must have been nice downloading programs in less than a minute instead of an hour or more!

I like the idea of the internal WiFi - that's kind of neat. But even watching the video I don't quite get what that Megabit 1 MB thing is supposed to accomplish. What did I miss?

The C128 has an empty socket from stock. You can add a ROM to add extra functionality. Rather than having a cartridge at the back. Meaning you didn't have to keep plugging and unplugging your favourite BASIC expansion cart for example. A few different ROMs came out over the years, and others converted carts to fit on a EPROM ready for said socket. The Megabit128 does that, but gives you more than just one ROM. I guess it makes more sense that the fancy Carts do the same thing these days, but it was to replace the not so fancy chip that was already in there from the past owner. Does that explain things a little better? The Megabit 128 with 1MB gives you a c
