Don’t replace your pump until you watch this video first!
Ford made tons of cars and trucks with this power steering pump/reservoir. Unfortunately they tend to leak over time. Many mechanics will recommend complete pump replacement for many hundreds of dollars, but a repair kit is available which fixes these leaks for $27!

This is really helpful. I hate the ones where the guys tell you what they're going to do, and then go immediately to the completely disassembled problem without showing you how to get to it, which, for some of us, is the most difficult part. Thank you from the old ladies working on their old truck brigade.

Thank you very much. I've been looking for a video for almost 10 months that would show me how to remove and replace this part. Here in Brazil, no one does this service and shows how to do it. The workshops that perform the service charge a lot and the specialized ones are in the city of São Paulo and I live far away in the capital of Brazil in the Federal District. I didn't find anything on KZbin. I also have a channel where I show you how to do things yourself in your car. When I go to change I will film it and give you credit for teaching me. I think your reservoir is missing a Teflon ring on the pressure hose fitting. I still haven't found this ring for sale and mine is crushed. My car is a 1995 Mustang 5.0 V8. Once again, thank you very much for filming all the steps of the work.

That high pressure line has a Teflon O-ring that goes over the threads and into a grove near the nut head. Kind of like the O-rings do on the valve. I just did this job and the old pump had one and the new one came with a replacement ring. There's also videos on here showing the Teflon O-ring if you look for them.

@ijfim
@ijfim 11 күн бұрын
I would try this repair first since it only costs around $20 for the parts. In cold weather, rubber gets less pliable so that might be why it’s leaking. Let us know if it fixes it or not during the winter months. This channel will still be here!

@@ijfim wow. You're great replying so fast! One more question please. 🤭 The factory stereo 2001 Ford ranger XLT doesn't work, fuses checked out, I pulled stereo out and couldn't find where a fuse would be...two connections disconnected Then I saw an L shape connector not sure if it's for radio. How do I test radio to see if it works? My favorite CD is in the player 😞 Two people said they'd help me check it out...that was last year. haha I can take pics if you need them Thanks for the videos!! ❤️

Sorry if didn’t reply so fast this time! Yeah, the “L” shaped connector could be the antenna. Many radios won’t work without it. Try plugging it into the hole in the back of the radio.

I’m wondering the same thing. What fitting are you talking about? I’ve taken the whole thing off and put it back twice and I’m not sure where that 3rd skinny o ring goes. Also now it’s making that whining noise a lot and having trouble while turning. It’s “skipping” a lot as I turn and feels very rough. Any info would be helpful. Thanks

@ijfim

Just double and triple-check your o-ring location. SYMMETRICALLY install your reservoir over the o-ring. If you cock it sideways, it will bind up. I hope you are kidding about the hammer!

@ijfim

Not that I know of. I haven’t leaked a drop since I recorded the video so o-rings are all you need. Typically 1500 psi is the threshold that teflon backup rings are required.

There isnt an o-ring down inside the pressure fitting where the hose threads into? Im kind of stumped by mine because it is leaking from the fitting, but if you look close its not a regular pressure fitting. The hose side is beveled like a hydraulic fitting, while the female side is machined flat. There is no way for the hose and fittings to mesh like a hydraulic fitting.
@ijfim
@ijfim 4 ай бұрын
Are you sure all the parts are correct? Sounds like it shouldn’t have worked from the start? Maybe your pressure hose is built as a 2-piece connector somehow and one of the pieces fell off when you disconnected it?

@@ijfim thanks for replying. I actually just posted a video on my page about it if you want to see what I'm talking about. I came up with a novel solution to fix it that seemed to work very well. Unless someone took the thing apart before I got the truck it appears to all be there. Also it seems like a pretty prolific problem bc there are tons of forum post about it, and all trucks I've seen at the junk yard leak right there.
