Thank you for the tutorial I know for a fact that some of those failed the baton the last one Houge DeKa and some of those liner locks

I definitely wouldn’t use any of these to baton with, that’s a fixed blade only task in my opinion. Thanks for watching!

I understand this was intentionally simplistic, but one of the biggest things worth mentioning is the potential variation in a single lock type. When people say things like "i hate liner locks" or "i wont buy backlocks" i feel like they're expecting every implementation to be the same. For example, a ton of people claim to not like backlocks but even just looking at Spyderco, the only thing the locks on the Chaparral, Delica and Native have in common is the name. They couldn't feel more different in use. Same with Anthem vs Bugout, Subvert/Mamba vs Military, Hanan vs pm2 and about a billion other examples. Edit: also, most of the "only will fail if X component completely shears" examples you gave arent true. Crossbar locks and plunge/button locks fail all the time from slipping caused by poor geometry.

You are correct! Given poor geometry almost any of these locks could fail… which is something I should have mentioned. It just seems the button lock is most susceptible to failure, because there seems to be less room for error in its design. But yes, my intention was to keep this very simple, and not get too into the weeds in detail. (I’m still learning myself). Thanks for the comment!

I have my fair share of liner locks and frame locks… I don’t purchase them anymore cause i PREFER other locks these days.

These are still locking knives, they won't stand up to batoning or other abuse. If you get into a situation that you need those kind of uses you should have planed ahead and have a fixed blade.
