I’ve owned a w211 e63 for 4 years now with 125,000 miles on it. I have replaced both front air springs, control arms, up and lower ball joints, sway bar end links at a reputable shop. For some reason my car still drives very harsh over bumps to the point where I’m afraid to drive over a road that has pot holes. I know this isn’t how the car should drive so what could it be? Also when driving at low speeds over bumps there is a knocking sound from front left. There is also a popping sounds when lateral weight transfer around corners. This is all very disappointing to me considering how much time and money I put into the car. Please help.
@AccentOnCars2 ай бұрын
That’s very strange. Ride quality is one of the best in w211 and it should not be harsh at all. What brand air springs were used? Are you sure your car hasn’t been lowered either through MB software or lowering links?

The biggest fear of the buyer of Mercedes out of warranty its a matter of not if , but when the air suspension will fail .
@AccentOnCars2 ай бұрын
Should be the smallest of your fears. Air suspension is relatively cheap and easy to DIY. There are well known and trustworthy aftermarket companies that are up to a par with oem.
@c190gtc2 ай бұрын
that's just wrong. Modern airmatic systems are one of the best out there. The benefit is they will work 250'000km long while a conventional steel set up would have to be replaced 2 times within that span. Therefore in the long term you get more comfort and less maintanance work, sure the dampers cost more, but it's worth it. My AMG is out of warranty since 3 years now, not a single issue with the lowered airmatic. When they fail early, let's say 150'000km, then very often bad roads lead to that.

@@c190gtcmy w211 has had 3 sets of front, 4 sets of rear bags in the service history. All Mercedes dealer. 115,000 miles. Watching this video as the rear has started to fail again 🤣
@AccentOnCars2 ай бұрын
Either the dealer didn’t change the springs in pairs, or used used parts, or you have extremely bad roads, or you never wash your suspension, or there’s a lot of debris in the system and the filter has never been changed. Otherwise there’s no way you went through 3 sets of front suspension in those miles.

@@AccentOnCarsthe car is 2003 and I live in the UK, the roads here are pretty bad. 3rd set of fronts (1st being what it left the factory with) was put on at 80k miles I believe.

Hi there 👋 I think their mild hybrid inline 6 engines aren’t bad and not known for any major issues yet. Just like with all MB of latest years, overall quality is not the same as in 90s. Keep on top of maintenance. I made this video about engine maintenance that’s not specifically about your engine but common principles apply. Check it out: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mXi3pmSMoLdpZqs

9:57 To say driving at regular speeds through potholes is better on the suspension, then showing this clip is exactly why ppl drive cautiously through potholes 😅. No way at that speed is the suspension happy vs lower speed.
@AccentOnCarsАй бұрын
I said “in certain cases”. 90% of time you see that pot hole too late when flying 80mph on the road. At that point it’s better to let the car fly over the pothole than slam on brakes.

I have lowered my e53 amg 25mm. I do wonder now, if the air spring is seperate at the back how does it lower if the damper is still fix?
@AccentOnCars2 ай бұрын
Usually the air spring and shock is separate in the back. The air spring is what controls the height.

I was wondering if lowering your suspension affect its life ? We are saying like 1 finger gap between fender and tire not slamming it to the balls
@AccentOnCars2 ай бұрын
If you mean for airmatic, then I am personally of the opinion that it reduces its life. I came to this conclusion empirically. All my friends with lowered air suspension have to replace them sooner than non-lowered. My theory is that dust and sand gets trapped more in between rubber working as abrasive.
@c190gtc2 ай бұрын
hmm I have an e53 amg with 94'000km and lowered suspension. Since it's only 25mm (the car sits very high standard) the comfort isn't even that much different. Like an E63s sport height. Till now nothing ever happened
@c190gtc2 ай бұрын
@@AccentOnCars I'm sure it also depends on how much you lower it no? I matched my e53 height to the e63.
@AI-qd4vb22 күн бұрын
@@c190gtc look, a single millimeter in engineering can mean a lot. We are talking about structures and all kind of linkages designed within very strict parameters to sustain a wide metallic body of almost 2 tonnes, distributed irregularly and dampen any road imperfections that can alter its inertia and momentum while going at potentially 200kmh or more. The suspension of your car can deal with forces that seem impossible. Tons and tons of weight dampening. To put it into perspective, if you had to handle the energy one of this dampers dissipates while breaking from 200kmh to a stop, you would be pulverized, literally. Worse than trowing a grenade at your face. Of course every single thing you touch will have an effect which you will notice sooner or later. It might be unnoticeable at first but in my experience, everyone messing with their suspension (especially highly complex ones like this) ends up feeling the extra wear sooner or later. Lowering a car means decreasing the travel distance of dampeners, angular travel of arms, intensity of forces delivered by the tires and forces absorbed by gaskets, silent blocks, etc. This strain is not easily calculated either, its not necessarily linear. The increase could follow a logarithmic or exponential scale. Imagine yourself falling from 3 meters high onto a matress. Imagine that matress has a 10 cm thickness. Do you think removing 10% (1 cm) of its thickness will have no consequence? Of course, Im not telling you this to criticize your decision or to try and force you to act a certain way or another. Its just a bit of info to put anyone who reads this into context. Those tiny metallic sticks that keep your car on top of the wheels are incredible pieces of technology and neither you, me or even actual automotive mechanical engineers can predict on the spot how big or small will the consequences of messing with them be. So never mod your car expecting no drawbacks. That pretty much never happens.

What is the suspension system in w213?
@AccentOnCars2 ай бұрын
Depending on trim level, w213 may have standard suspension which is a multi-link setup on all 4 corners, or dynamic body control suspension or Airmatic suspension. Regardless of the type of suspension, all offered selective or adaptive damping, and offered premium ride quality.

Why not? I find nothing wrong with the advises he gives. They are quite factual and recommended by manufacturers, engineers, etc... Can you elaborate? And whats that about an opinion? We are speaking about facts here. Do you have actual data to counter his points? Opinions are meaningless when discussing facts. Imagine I go to a math channel and I write "1 + 1 is not 2" as my opinion...
