Another major issue with early production g20s is the evaporator drain tube is mis aligned with the AC drain line. So what happens is the water from the AC drips into the car, soaking the carpet around the center console. I’m having this problem and the repair is $3k+
@TandeGarage5 ай бұрын
Haven’t heard of this yet, but I haven’t done much research on this specific topic and I do take your word for it. Can’t imagine diy removing everything to get to the evaporator on european cars… that must suck. Hopefully you might still have several months of warranty left for it to be taken care of?

@@TandeGarage the car has been out of warranty for nearly a year now. This is a defect right from the factory. BMW dealer wants 5300usd to repair it as it requires removing the dash
@TandeGarage5 ай бұрын
Evaporators are typically “hidden” under/inside the dash, so I’m not surprised it requires disassembling the entire dash to access the faulty part. That’s why I can understand the hefty bill on the repair 🤦♂️ That’s why I have been sourcing a trusted local indy shop and building a good relationship with them. It will pay off eventually. Going to the dealership for service is usually a ripoff 🥲

I thought the oil pump issue was addressed in later builds of the 2020 models? Around September 2019 and after.
@TandeGarage26 күн бұрын
Can’t really speak for the late builds 2019, since mine is Apr 2019. And according to others on the internet, there isn’t necessary guarantee about when exactly was the cutoff date, for BMW officially ditching the old design of oil pump. Regardless, the first telltale sign is going to be unable to measure oil consistently, then sooner or later low oil pressure warning light. When it reaches that point, however, the vehicle needs to be towed to be repaired immediately.

list of maintenance as well as when YOU would do it and not just manufacturer maintenance frequency. i would like a master list so i can coordinate and do it myself as best i can
@TandeGarage20 күн бұрын
Routine/General maintenances vary with the condition the car is driven in, so I can only provide a guide to be *referenced* to, instead of to be *followed*. (p.s. I live in Canada and we use metric system over here. Please convert them to imperial system if you need to. And, no - the list is not generated by AI should you need to know lol) Powertrain: - Engine Oil & Engine Oil Filter: Every 5,000 km - 8,000km (5,000 km for hard-driving, 8,000 km for highway driving; I do both of them every 7,000 km) - Engine Air Filter: Every 3 Oil Changes, unless the vehicle is constantly driven in dusty environment (i.e. construction workers) - Spark Plugs (Preventative Maintenance instead of Routine Maintenance): Every 60,000 km - 100,000 km. If the vehicle is tuned, you can also consider changing them every year, or every 30,000 km or so. - Coil Packs/Ignition Coils (Also Preventative Maintenance): Every 2 Spark Plugs changes. Drivetrain: - ZF8 Transmission Fluid & Filter: Every 60,000 km to 100,000 km (60,000 km if the ZF8 is tuned, like mine on xHP; 100,000 km if it's left stock) - Front Differential Fluid (if xDrive): Every 60,000 km to 80,000 km - Rear Differential Fluid: Every 60,000 km to 80,000 km - Transfer Case Fluid (if xDrive): Every 60,000 km to 80,000 km I'd usually do Front and Rear Diff Fluid at once, to avoid the hassle of leveling the car to attend both services. If you have checked out my other videos, you might have also noticed I attended both the transmission fluid & filter service and the transfer case fluid change at the same time. I don't normally bother with coolant flush or brake flush, especially with coolant flush since water pump typically goes out before you need to flush the coolant system. And that a water pump replacement requires you to flush/bleed the coolant system anyways. However, of course, to each their own; and ideally speaking, at least brake fluid should be flushed every 2 years or so. Hope this helps! Once again, this is a general guideline - a guideline that I personally follow according to my own driving situations and environments. At the end of the day, everyone drives differently and drives in different places. You may want to try and figure out what works best for you.

What is the best year to buy ?
@TandeGarageКүн бұрын
To simply this, breaking down the G20 M340i in 3 variations. 2020: easier to be tuned with simple bench-unlock (~$200 USD/CAD), less complicated electronic system (mild-hybrid). Cheapest to buy because of the older model years. However, likely requires a revised oil pump from 2021+ MY, and potentially a revised rear differential cover from 2021+ MY as well. 2021-2022: mild-hybrid introduces smoother takeoff from a stop, and ever so slightly faster than the 2020MY because of the MH system, punching it from a stop. Revised oil pump and rear differential cover. However, requires femto unlock to be tuned. Every time the DME is locked (for example: from dealership service), you will need to send the DME off to Finland to unlock it again. (~$2000 USD). 2023-present (2024/2025): Factory warranty, LCI front and rear bumper, more advanced tech with huge dashboard. Also requires femto unlock as 2021+. Pricier compared to previous model years due to newer model year. Need to value your pros and cons to make up that decision.

My oil doesnt read but it does tell me when to top off. I have a g30 m340i too
@TandeGarage4 ай бұрын
And that’s exactly what happened to mine. If you have warranty still (assuming extended warranty if you took it upon purchasing), try to push for service to replace the oil pump for you. From my understanding is that when it’s measuring oil, the oil pump is outputting oil pressure out of tolerance for oil measurement (as if you stepped on gas), so the oil measurement stops. Of course this is only the theory and your service advisor may say it’s bs and turn you away. But try pushing for the oil pump replacement. The FB group that I’m in, a lot of folks got their oil pump replaced under warranty, even if it’s tuned for a small fraction of them. After that oil pump replacement, I’ve been able to measure oil every single time. Good luck friend!

They need to make a recall for the oil pump smh
@TandeGarage9 ай бұрын
Only if! It doesn’t concern operator/passengers safety regard. Even if they send out a statement, it will only be a TSB not a recall, unfortunately. Being said, that will be up to the dealership’s discretion to fixing it if it’s brought up.

How much km are you at? Is there an option for the cad model that includes the non plastic parts? I heard ZGK but that option isn’t available in the 2020 pricing guide. I’m considering a high mileage early build so want to avoid any major pitfalls.
@TandeGarage3 ай бұрын
I got it a year ago at 51k km. Now it’s sitting at around 79k km. The oil pump “issue” started as soon as I got the car pre-owned. Took care of it at around 60k and it’s been good ever since . In my honest opinion, if you’re going to get an M340, get a 2020 MY however you want it to spec, of course with budget in mind; as well to set aside some funds to be prepared of taking care of any potential issues, given that it’s already out of warranty when you purchase one that’s early-built. 2020 is the MY to go if you keep tuning in mind, regardless of the early-built production problems that can be easily taken care of after purchasing. Good luck car-hunting!
@TandeGarage3 ай бұрын
Forgot to mention, ZTK does include the “upgraded” oil pump even with 2020 MY as I mentioned in the video. Don’t be frustrated if you can’t get one, either it’s not an available option or just not the pre-owned you’re looking has spec’ed for. Their big brake kit comes at a hefty price to replace rotors and pads anyways 😅 Not to mention the lack of undercarriage protection for the cooling system under the car, which also can incur a hefty bill to pay for if something were to happen that punctures the radiator.

I have a M340i Xdrive on order it will arrive in February. Why did you change the Differential oil with such low mileage?
@TandeGarage2 ай бұрын
I’d say 60-ish k km is a pretty reasonable mileage to change the differentials fluids, it’s not exactly expensive nor labour intensive; but to each their own. If you do care about the car, these basic maintenance items are the least you can do to ensure its reliability; including a shortened engine oil change interval than what BMW recommends.

These cars are still under manufacturers warranty. What’s the problem ?
@TandeGarageАй бұрын
It depends on where you are in the world., if you would purchase as CPO. Take mine as an example: 2020 MY, it was delivered to the first owner in 2019 July. I purchased it as a pre-owned vehicle from a dealership as a non-CPO. BMW Canada warranty is only good upto 4 years/80k km, whichever comes first. That said, when I purchased mine as non-CPO, warranty has already ended. It’s been a year since I have purchased mine, and therefore the 2021 MY has/will have expired warranty by now if potential owner is buying them as non-CPO units. And let’s face the truth for a second, a good part of M340i owners/potential owners will have it modified sooner than later. Being a pay to play scenario, should something go wrong, warranty likely won’t cover when it’s modified.

So what year M340I are the best to buy? Thanks!
@TandeGarage2 ай бұрын
If you are trying to tune it, 2020 is THE year you should put into consideration in priority. If you are just trying to enjoy the car as is, 2021 and up is your best choice, where you don’t need to worry about plastic components of oil pump, rear differential cover leaking, etc. In addition to the last one ☝️, if you want a higher tech then the pre-LCI (full digital dashboard vs digital dashboard+another screen for the iDrive system), then 2022+ for the LCI models. Hope this aids with your decision making!

Don’t buy the 2025 m340 because they switched to the b58 tu2 uses the technical updated engine version 2 with port injection. It is having engine failures. Also the mild hybrid version came out in 2022 or 2023 it has a purple cable by the oil housing. So I think 2022 is most reliable

@TandeGarage9 ай бұрын
Supposedly, yes! Unfortunately, there’s no way to confirm 100% that you have the updated pump or not, other than pulling it out and check for part number (which will be completely pointless really…) If you can check oil level right after a drive, every single time; that’s one of the clear indications your oil pump is in good standard! ✌️

Haven’t done much studies about the VQ’s so can’t comment on it too much. Oil pump is an issue that can be solved by replacing the unit. I genuinely have no clue about oil consumption. Oil consumption on the other hand, I may switch to a slightly thicker oil (0w30 maybe), and see if it’s going to improve. It’s indeed weird.
