Not a fail but a common internal marketing struggle. *_Sales vs. Marketing_* (a future video perhaps) Issues can arise when a Marketing Director is too sales focused. (Of course this doesn't apply to small entrepreneurs wearing multiple hats) To me, in mid-sized and large organizations, marketing's role is to get out a clear consistent message; craft the image; design slick materials; handle public relations; develop promotional campaigns to include pull activities, etc. Compelling and effective pull marketing promotions are essential but sometimes marketing can become obsessed with these and feel all their campaigns are home runs. They then go to extreme measures trying to link every new sale to these campaigns which is misleading. This got way long but I know you know where I'm coming from. Marketing departments think they can sell and sales divisions think they understand marketing. They are certainly intricately tied and overlap. Still, quite often in my experience there can be some conflict.

Yes indeed. A similar relationship between marketing and advertising. And yes that is the theme of a future video. Marketing vs Selling :)

Another fail, marketers can make, is having a good product, which sells well locally at the home market, but expanding abroad poorly. For instance, Fiat is a huge success in Italy, where they sell small cars. Those are perfect for the small and windy roads you have in Italy. But when they expanded to the US, their sales stayed low, as Americans like to drive bigger cars and were not interested in buying a small Fiat, which cost the company lots of money. In America, it flopped, in Italy, it's a hit.

@Mike Fiat isn't failing in the U.S. because Americans love big vehicles. Fiat is failing because they are consistently rated as worst reliability car brand annually by Consumer Reports and JDP. *_Mini Cooper_* on the other hand has record sales every year.

A Reason Marketing People Fail Is Because They Are To Greedy - They Take & Not Give

Little (medical) side fact to the gluten free stuff: Gluten free stuff is only relevant for a very, very small fraction of the whole population, who can't digest gluten. For everyone else, it has no benefits whatsoever to eat gluten free. And the (sometimes) advertised thesis, that gluten is harmful and glutenfree is so much better, is just nonsense. (And the pizza has to have gluten in it, as this is the stuff, which holds the dough together)
