I wouldn't classify logos, pathos, and ethos as rhetorical devices, although they overlap in meaningful ways. In terms of rhetoric, the concepts of logos, pathos, and ethos (and kairos) are better defined as appeals/strategies that rhetorical devices enhance, rather than as rhetorical devices themselves. Just my two cents.

Rhetorical question- not answered by the writer, the answer is obvious or obviously desired. Allusion- brief and indirect reference to a person thing or idea of historical, cultural, literary or political significance Repetition- a word or phrase repeated several times to make an idea clearer Parallel structure- uses words or phrases that are not identical but have the same structure Ethos- the person delivering the message has to be credible (trusted liked knowledgeable) Logos- the message must be logical and well presented (makes sense, has facts) Pathos- message that touches the emotions

Repent of sin! The Gospel: JESUS died for our sins on the cross, HE shed HIS holy, innocent , precious blood for us (HIS blood washes away ALL sins) HE was buried but on the third day GOD raised HIM from the dead. All you have to do to be saved is: Believe in JESUS, trust in HIS blood. JESUS did everything for you, no works are required for salvation (Ephesians 2:8-9) . (Don’t forget to repent of sin. )..,

As an undergraduate student with GCU online, this is what I will need for my future courses. I am currently on my 3rd course; ENG 105, which requires a lot of writing (ethos-logos and pathos) which has been challenging for me. But with practice I got this! (As my instructor always reminds me). Thank goodness for GRAMMERLY !

No, I have to watch this because, people are using rhetoric to change the world, and it bothers me that this can be done despite people having potentially selfish reasons; so I have to become better at rhetoric than they, otherwise I will not sleep.

I found it interesting and almost ironic that the second example uses the first example as a device to convince you of the second examples effectiveness.

Excellent class. One criticism. Lincoln was a tyrant who destroyed the Federal Republic and consolidated power in the central government. The problems we have today directly trace back to the Lincolnian Myth. I encourage you to read "The Real Lincoln" by Thomas DiLorenzo. This book will solidify Logos.
