What is a mistake you made as a “new to Tradition” Catholic?

I'm literally at the beginning stage. My dad brought me up going to Latin mass and I didn't understand it or try to understand it. Im at the point of despair and struggling now. The further I convert the more I see how important it is to go back to Latin mass. My biggest obstacle is my own family. My teenagers and my wife are content with the new mass. I'm really wanting to bring them into the Latin mass but they won't. I'm not sure if I should go on my own, and hoping they will join me. By the way I'm one of the ones who complained and gave a negative commen . I'm sorry, I was wrong. It's a my own struggle, and I really am learning a lot from you. I have found a Latin mass that's a bit if a drive. But I would really like to find a way to bring my family into it. I'm wondering if you have an suggestions for me when it comes to my wife? Also do you have any guides for beginners.

@@marksilva2929 i know you didn’t ask me but as a fellow husband and father all I can say is the best you can be is the example. We adore our family but ultimately they belong to god and you must leave their fate up to god as well. Practice self salvation and be the example of the tradition. Provide the advice with a loving voice but never push. Your children will feel the love that comes from you out of following this faith. They will see you are happier and more at peace and they will want to follow in that example. But God has a plan for them. Worry not. Pray and have faith in his plan. Sorry if the advice is not welcomed but I do mean well. God bless!

The greatest mistake i have ever made as a catholic who was mostly raised in a traditional church with the catechism and structured teachings of the faith was falling away from it in my teens and not coming back until i was almost 30. My life choices have reflected someone who had fallen away and am now cleaning up the mess i have made of my soul and my life.

This video gives me so much joy. I had taken a step back from so many channels because there was so much focus on “he said this, he’s doing that” that it began to shift my focus from true and focused, faithful worship of our Lord and true love for our church. When I did that, I was able to refocus on what is truly important and had such an immense peace.

@Sayan *they* broke away from Christ’s Church. “It was also worth noting the size difference between the two. A little over half of all Christians are Catholic, while a little under a quarter are Orthodox. Again, this is not an argument by itself, but it contributed to an overall impression that raises the question: *Which of the following is easier to accept?* 1. Church A is the true Church of Christ despite being a small, ethnically limited, and internally fractured communion that does not possess the admittedly divine institution of the papacy, while church B is a schismatic church despite it being far larger, having evangelized far more cultures, not having internal full communion problems, and having the institution of the papacy. 2. *Church B is the true Church of Christ* and its just-mentioned characteristics are signs of God’s providential guidance, while church A is the body in schism. It seemed to me that it was easier to explain matters if one accepted the second possibility: *The Catholic Church is the Bride of Christ and the Orthodox are, regrettably, in schism at present* It would be much harder to maintain that the Catholic Church is a false super-church that dwarfs the true Church. Protestants might be able to argue that case by labeling it the _Whore of Babylon_ and attributing all kinds of evil doctrine to it, but that argument would not work for the Orthodox, who are in near-total agreement with Catholic doctrine. I concluded that I would have to bite the bullet and accept the “hard sayings” of the Catholic Church. After all, Jesus had some hard sayings Himself.” Jimmy Akin

@@ACatholicWife I see, could you go into detail what exactly is heretical about Eastern Orthodoxy? See I’m a non denom Christian but from the beginning of my repenting and believing in the unfiltered gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ, I was led by the Holy Spirit to EO but in my ignorance I kept on refuting it as heretical. However, that was in my protestant mindset which was equally against Orthodoxy and Catholicism. I understand you don’t believe Pope Francis is a true Pope which is the only reason why I’m even willing to learn about Trad Catholicism - he is evidently a ecumenist promoting heretical and contradictory teachings. As of now, I stand in my belief that EO is the unchanged Apostolic Church given by Christ however I’m seeking Truth so I would appreciate if you can go in depth to see the Trad Catholic side. After a lot of prayer and studying, I’ll make a God ordained decision. Thank you so much for your time. May the Holy Spirit guide us all into all Truth. Glory to the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit unto ages of ages amen.

I’ve been navigating my way through traditionalism this past year, I avoided it for a while because of the toxic things but have been carefully taking the journey anyway. These are great points and conversations trads need to have. I went arm’s length about hyper fixating about the Pope or bishops in the news - like Fr. Ripperger said it’s important to have a sense of detachment and not get too fixated on toxic things going on in the Church. I don’t get involved in the debates about the validity of the novus ordo or if there are errors in Vatican II. That’s above my pay grade and probably above most other laity as well. People need to learn the difference between matters of faith and what are matters of opinion - and learning not to take opinions so personally. It sounds like you’re on the right track to avoid drama. And I like your earrings!

I love your show. I studied Latin in HS and have not picked it up until my late sixties but, I am loving it and doing well. God is so Good. I knew the TLM as a young girl and then things changed in the late 60’s. I have always remembered the beauty and reverence of TLM but attended Novus Ordo that was available to me. So I guess I could be called a “revert” to TLM praise be to God. That said, the TLM is not readily available to me. Once a month, I am blessed to be able to attend TLM. With Tradiciones Custodes, so many other options have been removed. 😢 It makes me so sad. When I am in Florida I have access 7 days a week. So blessed. If you have this kind of access to TLM, you are so blessed. I agree with your shares. Stay the course. If we had this available when we were younger, I really believe that the general faith of our Church would be stronger. But, I digress. The world needs our prayers. Our families need our prayers, our Church needs our prayers. So, I stay the course in my NO church community. I receive the Eucharist on my tongue, by a priest (which is often more awkward for the priest than for me). I take every advantage I get to attend TLM the one time a month while I am up north. And I share if others are interested in knowing about TLM. Prayers for you and your family. Stay as focused and kind as you are. 🙏🏻❤️

The biggest mistake I ever made as a Traditional Catholic (Very new convert this year) was to try to leave my Novus Ordo parish. Even though there is a Tridentine Mass only an hour away I, began to realize that I was robbing myself of the satisfaction and joy of being part if a family, being part of my home parish. To be part of a family means being thankful for the good times and standing strong and being loyal in the difficult. By simply running away to what I liked, I felt as though I was just standing for myself and not a community. There's a lot I wish we did differently but until things change for better (or worse), I will just pray for my parish and priest, and be thankful for what we, as a parish, have.

@Zachary O thanks for sharing your experience. As a lifelong Catholic, I have done my time at the Novus Ordo and for my own faith journey, it is well past time to close that chapter. I am happy that you are finding what you are looking for in your Novus Ordo parish. We all have to find our own way. Thanks be to God, some of us are fortunate enough to be able to chose between the Novus Ordo and the Vetus Ordo - sadly, far more are not so fortunate and are forced to endure what is offered. One thing I have learned is to worry about my own faith and what I need to do in my life and fret less over what my neighbor is doing or which Mass they are attending. I know a lot of people think it is their responsibility to police the Mass. That is not our job as the laity. I attend a diocesan TLM at my "home" parish. If that option ends - we will have to reevaluate our options and decide what is best for our family. Thanks again for stopping by to watch my video.

Treasure your courage and humility. Made the same mistakes in re all the books and all the other sources offered. I also entrusted my children's education to the nuns and priests like my parents did. I did not know they were mostly modernists. I was too trusting. I should have known better. By the time I realized harm had been done we did not know how to undo. My anger was mostly directed at myself because of the grave responsibility of patents who are the first teachers of their children. I still struggle with this and I am 80. I admire your wisdom.

I have often said I am sad that I didn’t learn the beauty of Catholicism sooner in life. However, I do see what you are saying about converts. It seems like so many puzzle pieces fit together now that I have converted. I am thankful that scripture has always been a big part of my life, but then when I learned about the Sacraments!! 🤯 I tell Catholic friends about the Latin Mass. I think many of them just don’t even know. One (Catholic) lady asked me if my husband was Hispanic after I told her we attend the Latin Mass. I think she understood once I explained it, but she must have thought “Latino.” It upsets me too how the Pope is negative towards the TLM. I just don’t understand when they’re are soooo many issues in the world and the church, why in the world focus on something that brings people closer to Jesus! You are so right to focus on your family. I am also thankful you share on this channel and I know your goal is for eyes to be opened to the truth.

I laughed out loud when you said you were “larping as a trad.” This video shares your genuine heart and humility. For me my faith has been very slow. I’ve always been believed in God and called myself Catholic. But my reversion I don’t think has ever been zealous. If anything I’m more sad at my laxness/worldliness when I was trying to live my faith. That’s something I pray against everyday because I never want to offend our Lord. I attend a very reverent novus ordo mass. The only thing I wish they would implement is everyone kneeling to receive communion. I went to a Novus Ordo in Arizona that did that and it was so beautiful.

Once again, well done! “Unless the way that we are practicing the faith and sharing information that is contrary to what the Church teaches, I fail to see how it’s the business of another lay person.” You put it so simply and so wonderfully. This is how I will put things going forward in situations where I need to say it when they say things. It is different than instances where people say things that are indeed needed, whether I solicit it or not. For example, you have always given wonderful input, both when I solicit it and in other times when I need it. I appreciate it. In other words, you don’t have some ulterior motive. Whereas someone might tell me something that really isn’t their place if that makes sense. IE, the same thing that people might tell me is similar to someone saying to you “you must watch Fr Stu” or “you are wrong for not watching Fr Stu." Someone saying something never or currently has any authority over my family and I, so sometimes I need to let it go instead of perseverating on it. Speaking of authority, I defer to Bishop Gracida and others to declare things about Pope Francis. I simply share what they declare without making my own declarations about Popes, validity etc. I used to fall into the trap mistake of sometimes making my own declarations when it comes to those things of the Faith. Now, I just simply share what they say/declare. I also agree with you on the liturgical abuses is something concerning to all of us Catholics. Also, some people do parish groups others, by choice or circumstance do not. A parish group can help someone, another person might not have the time or desire. Also, the larping is an important issue. I don’t need anyone telling me that I better run to a monastery before it’s “too late for my salvation.” I am fine as it is and spiritual direction long ago confirmed this. Love helping my family. Nothing we are doing or planning on doing is contradictory to the Church. My brother and I appreciate our parents and they do us. Plus, he and his future family will be there for me as the closest people in my life (and me there for them) long after the day comes when our parents are no longer here with us, but in the meantime, we are thankful our parents are here, and we both enjoy the time with them. I also do politics as my vocation/career, plus volunteer stuff on the side. Some people don’t and that is perfectly ok too, but I do it (in line with the Faith of course). Also, if anyone wants to share Eastern Rite things with me that is fine, but please no links, please just tell me what to look up. I would like to find it on my own time. Have a wonderful week.

Hi Deena! I do apologize if my comment on your last video about yoga and whatnot was taken as me being harsh or uncharitable. I really love the work you do on your channel! The reason I felt the need to speak was because the way you worded the title it made it seem like you were telling others that those things were a sin. I appreciate you clearing things up in this video and letting your audience know that those things are simply your opinion and how you practice your faith (which I think is beautiful by the way). No TLM less than an hour away from me. Two things you mentioned that struck me (paraphrase): 1) TLM vs NO, you still participate to worship God. 2) When you said "popes come and go", I was literally thinking, "popes don't live forever". I think that trying to get other Catholics to understand what I feel at traditional Mass (including my mother or my brother) can be painful for them to think that I don't share the faith in the same way. Even they come to think that I am "fanaticizing"... it happens that it is difficult to explain the flood of direct love that I received in my heart when I went to my first traditional mass. They also do not understand that it is different (if they have always told us that the new mass is only the translation of the traditional mass) and they do not understand why exposing myself to traveling 2 hours by bus and train with my 2 children (9 and 6 years old) when walking to 5 minutes away I have 2 chapels, and a little further (10 minutes by car) there must be at least 5 or 6 more chapels. All this is proving difficult for those around me. And it's hard for me to give them an answer they understand

I came back into my faith 19years ago and it wasn't until 6 years ago that I had an awakening when it came to my faith and my family's faith. I was feeling exactly how you were when it came to all of the comments that Pope Francis was making, that sounded like he was almost against the faith and that really confused me on top of my confusion that I already had. In the end, I realized I had to do my own homework on the faith because the church is not necessarily doing their job when it comes to teaching catechism in the classrooms to our children. I think when it comes to my children it had a very big impact on me realizing that they were being taught a water down version of the faith and it scared me because I did not want them walking away from the faith. I would have to say ever since finding out the truth from the lies it has been harder as a Catholic to practice my faith and also to live in this world. But I do know that it is a suffering I am willing to accept.

Ms. Deena, Thank you for sharing these things. I believe there are more people that are guilty of these things. I know that I am a convert and the only Mass I can get to is over 30 mins a way and is the NO but I can't go every week. I don't have a car so that makes it even harder. I know what I am about to say may trigger someone, but I attend the NO when I can but I live a Tradition Catholic life. I have been told that, that is not possible. It use to bother me but I live as a Hermit and I have heard a lot of things. I don't know if it is the right thing to do but it is working for me right now. the closest TLM is an hour away and that is without traffic. I want to thank you for not being like other Traditionalist and tell me since I don't go to a TLM I am not really Catholic. Again thank you for you honesty and I hope your husband is doing better. I am praying for you and your family. Keep doing what the Lord has called you to do. You are making a difference.

Well said! You have a really good way of putting this. You can be a Traditional Catholic regardless of which form of the Mass (or even Eastern Rite) you go to! Your comment is very inspiring to me. There is no problem with you attending the NO. Also, traffic is a factor to consider, that would be a factor if for some reason my family and I lost the TLM and we had to drive an hour to the next one. Especially recently discovering how my local area is going to grow too fast and in ways that probably aren't good for the safety and quality of life of our area. Which is sad because we left an area that already got overrun. The important thing is that my family and I stay together long term which we all agree we will do no matter what. Our family has no desire or reason to return to Virginia. One person on one of my platforms told me that my family and I "need to return" to Virginia if we lose the TLM in our new area and that to not to do so is "cowardly." We have no obligation nor desire to do so. I took the big step of responding to them charitably and said I am sure there are good people there still fighting the good fight, but it is just not in God's plan for our family and I to return there. The person still didn't understand. Sometimes it is hard to let go what was said, even though the person has no authority or power over my family and I spiritually. But it is positive comments like yours that inspire me to focus on the important things including our Faith, my family and the many good fellow traditional Catholics and the positive things! Have a blessed Sunday of Advent!

@@realJustinGeorge I have offend wonder if I was called to go to the NO to be there as a Traditional Catholic to help others. Because I do believe that Latin will be said in more places. The Lord tells us that the Gates of Hell will not prevail against the Church. I also pray that the Lord will us me to be an example of what the Traditional Catholic looks like. Thank you Justin for your post. I am praying for you and your family. I have been called to be a Hermit so please pray for me as will.

So my goal in the new year was to find out exactly where I stand in my faith. I'm 22 and grew up Presbyterian but I haven't been to a church since I was 12. This past year something changed and I've been drawn to the Catholic church. There's a Latin Mass near me and I really want to go but I would have to go by myself. Its honestly a bit intimidating and just have so many questions. Should I go to high mass or low mass? Would I stand out without a veil? Should I just skip it and go straight to RCIA? And the list goes on lol! I plan going this coming up Sunday but if anyone has any tips it would be much appreciated. Wish me luck and pray for me! :)

I believe the Novus Order Mass is certainly valid. But, I have heard the new wording has made it somewhat less effective (i.e less grace received). I attend a NO Mass, but our priest sprinkles some Latin in parts which I like.

I guess technically I would be considered a revert. I was baptized as a baby, but wasn't raised in a Catholic environment. It wasn't until 2019, as an adult, that I was confirmed. I can relate to what you were saying about feeling like you needed to get this book or listen to that talk and things feeling overwhelming. I like watching channels like yours were I can get a point of view from a wife's perspective so that maybe I can be a better Catholic husband. Though, especially in this video, I feel I can relate to what you talk about as a Catholic person, regardless of being a wife or a husband. Thank you for what you're doing here.

My biggest struggle right now as a Trad is I’m comparing our community to the Orthodox Jewish Community. I feel so much sorrow for the fact that they’re living out their faith way better than us. I can tell that they are in the world but not of it. I can’t tell with some Catholics because so many of the Catholics I know are so “worldly.”

I agree with you on this subject. I think pride is Satan's greatest weapon and it shows in a variety of ways. It can be when we condemn someone for not being Catholic enough. It can be like it was for me when my priest disciplined me from the pulpit for a newby mistake. I got very angry. I thought it was unfair and I stewed over it. Then I realized that our Lord had exposed me to my hidden pride. That was what mattered, fair or not, that lesson was just what I needed. I was the pharisee in the gospel, my pride was my great sin that could send me to hell. The words of that priest saved me that day.

Fr. Ripperger says we are not the Catholic Amish. I never liked the term "making a spectacle on oneself" That is what priests say to people they deny Communion to, who want to receive on the tongue, while kneeling. Especially when it comes to conservative dress out practice. And especailly in light of the abominations occurring at many Masses, and the immodest dress, etc that we so commonplace see at many Masses. . No one would dream of saying that to someone who shows up dressed too casually. I DO wear makeup and jewelry, but I don't over do it. However, I see those who believe they should not adorn themselves, but that the only thing that needs decoration is the altar, including the priests and altar boys. It matters what is in the person's heart, as long as one is not immodest. I can see how one might think wearing makeup and jewelry is vain, , but I don't think of it that way, I think of it more as putting on Sunday Best. Either way is acceptable, as I see it, as long as one dresses to honor God.

I was raised Catholic (dad is Catholic, mom was Baptist), identified as Catholic but wasn't Baptized until my 20s (40 years ago...yikes!😮). Growing up I remember Mass being in Latin at one of the churches we attended but not in all. My dad was in the military and we moved often. My mom and I went through RCIA, albeit in different cities. We couldn't attend each others baptism because we were baptized on the same day. One of the many things I treasure that we shared. We both were practicing Catholics. But as a typical 20-30 something I knew all and didn't practice consistently. My mom recently passed away at 90 and I hate to say it, but that's what brought me fully back into the church. When I went to confession, after not going for several years, my priest said welcome and thank you for coming back. It was at that moment that I realized Christ had always been with me even during the lukewarm years. I found your channel a few months ago subscribed and then unsubscribed because I thought you were "too hardcore" for me. BUT...I still watched every post and began following That Black Catholic Chick after seeing your video. I too am a black Catholic woman, wife, mom & grandma and often wondered why there aren't more black Catholics. Roxie is a rockstar and I learned that although there are more Protestants who are black, there is still a large community in the Catholic church. I've decided to start veiling (after watching your video) and will be going to Adoration for the first time tomorrow. I feel fortunate that my priest chants as well as prays in Latin, not all the time, but enough that everyone feels included. I haven't found a TLM near me but I keep looking. This long post is to say Thank You! When I first found your channel I thought you were being judgmental about Catholics who attend Novus Ordo Mass. Your comments today about how you practice the Catholic faith for you and your family may not be the same as how I practice, how I may not always agree with you but that's ok, and what you say is your opinion and the best decisions for you and your family. I realized that I'm doing the same thing. You have made me embrace my faith fully and research more when I don't necessarily agree with your comments or was unaware. If you have stayed through this long post, thank you! I have subscribed again and I'm sure I won't always agree with you but I'm sure you will give me something to think and pray about. Thank you for talking about the beauty of the Catholic faith. 🙏✝❤💜

God bless. Great video. I have gone through many of the same frustrations even though I’m a latecomer to the TLM. Jesus opened my eyes to the truth with Traditionis custodes so I started going to the Diocese Latin Mass in my area. I also educated myself about the Bugnini NO but “The Mass of the Ages” documentary has been an eye opener. Needless to say I prefer the TLM especially the high mass. The liturgical music sung by the choir sounds like heaven on earth. That said I think the NO could be fixed but there is no will to do it. Even the small steps by Benedict now reversed was not enough. And the music has got to go. I generally split my Sundays between the Latin Mass and the Bugnini mass for now. Only God knows the future but if things keep going as they are I may be forced into an underground church if a network of them develops. The Latin Mass means that much to me.

i did not enjoy the Chosen either! I find as I get older it is best to avoid ALL protestant religious programming. They cannot help themselves and insult or blasphemy Our Lady. I don't even think they are trying to be offensive (or some of the are) they just can't help it. I'm starting to see this also in some Catholic Inc. bloggers etc. Particularly the V2 types or those seeking dialogue with non-Catholics.

Traditionalists must believe in divine right monarchism. The Church and the state ought to govern society in accordance with the natural law. A traditionalist would condemn the innovations of the Second Vatican Council and most importantly the new rite of episcopal consecration. The Missal of antipope John XXIII is forbidden. Water baptism is a requirement for salvation. It is necessary to be devoted toward the rosary and the Little Office. Prayers should be recited in Latin. Impurity and immodesty are to be condemned.
