Worst day was right after Thanksgiving this year. Tallied up my hours, expenses, and sales…realized that I wasn’t making enough to justify that much time and energy away from my family. I decided to quit putting so much pressure on myself to keep up with all the big resellers and just do it as a hobby! Closed the store down for a few weeks to get recharged and am back at it, but only dealing with things I enjoy finding with a good profit and a sell through rate. The process is much more enjoyable now, and I have friends and family shopping in my eBay storage space for gifts. Yep, they get a friends and family discount!😅

I own a brick and mortar and this is a common feeling. Just when you get a few days to break away something goes down. As a business owner, there is never a break! So I get this feeling 100% but like you said once you get back in there working it doesn’t seem so bad. We learn to take the bad with the good. Hoping this is the best January yet.

I’m not a reseller per se, but I do sell stuff on marketplace. I sold a I think it’s 1940s Rubens vase and I had mentioned the height as 8 inches. When I met the lady, she was disappointed and said oh that’s smaller than I thought. I was counting your bricks because I had taken a picture of it on my fire mantle. So after the sale, I went back and did a screenshot of the original listing and circled the 8 inches and sent it to her in messenger. It was probably not the brightest thing to do, but it really irritated me because it was right there that it was 8 inches high

I'm going to do the same thing next year--shut everything down after the first week of December.. I'm reading so many complaints and refund demands about shipping issues. I was lucky this year, I guess. Only one stalled delivery, but it did make it.. it was Media Mail though, a lot of mystery books.

My worst day was the time we sold a beautiful, large, COMPLETE ( all little lights, I even purchased a star to make it complete)) MCM Ceramic Xmas tree. WE packed it in 2 boxes bubble wrap, very very secure. Dropped about 30 packages in total at the post office. The next day, we found the tree's shipping label under some bubble wrap..... We ( when I say we I mean my husband) hadn't attached the shipping label. 200 bucks. arrrrggghhhhhh we tried to get it back to no avail. IF we would have included an invoice inside we would have got it back. (we never invoice) Trust me when I say we double double check now, and I promise I don't bring it up to him. lol don't even let me tell you about the time he sent a package meant for Canada to Japan. I love him. hahaha furthermore, that's part of this...take the hits and move on. AND NEVER MENTION IT AGAIN ( except to random strangers on the inter web) ....ok byeeeeeee

It's certainly true that the impact of returns and other business losses seem to depend more on your position than on the actual size of the loss. I've had periods when I was relying on the income from eBay on literally a day to day basis and then even a couple of small returns hits hard. On the other hand, when you've a bit of a buffer in your bank returns, while higher value ones still sting a bit, simply don't seem so important much of a personal affront: they're just a part of doing business. Having said that, I still metaphorically hold my breath every time I ship a breakable item!

I had a return for the first time today. It was more mental for me…….I reminded myself easy come easy go and in time this will sell. It only takes one person who wants/needs what we are selling… Stay 💪 strong and don’t be discouraged…..

I had a $900 return in late November last year for a turbo charger. Buyer sent back their used item. Refunded half and moved on. Two days another return on another turbo charger for $700. Buyer ended selling his car as he needed money. Returned the right one and I refunded in full minus the shipping. Move on and make more money. The first buyer was from that dealer with tower or building that dispense cars.

Goals are one of my favorite subjects. And who doesn’t think about them this time of year. You do awesome work and seem to have a good balance. I also enjoy your thought process. When it comes to goals, I would encourage you to read and study The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People. It’s something I’ve done since e the 90’s and it has helped me tremendously. It’s more than goals though and what you’ve been talking about in this episode is very similar. Continue to teach, preach, and be a good example of reselling. You will go far and be happy about your success and how you do it. And you will continue to help many others along the way.

I recently had 2 orders get returned because of insufficient address with usps. I’m still waiting to hear from buyers on what to do next and eBay hasn’t stepped in yet, which is ok. Also I have had some orders that don’t show tracking, which makes me worry if it will get to where it’s going. So far they did. A bazaar thing just happened where someone in SD bought a thing from me here in ND and usps tracking showed it went to Honolulu, HI and now is back in SD! Yikes

I had one "return" so bad and full of lies that ebay removed the feedback, first for me. Someone is returning a cookie jar as "not the right size/wrong item sent". An untested watch "doesn't work". The ones that hurt. $400 bracelet. "Doesn't fit" on a cuff. $200 golf clubs because in one spot I had the wrong hand, another I had the correct one. I'm getting off the returns now because some make me really mad and I can't let that happen. This entire episode was very relatable. Thank you. I love the competition and rooting for others. I know Dave was working on asp on ebay and he got that up. First thing I noticed when he showed that screen.

Hi love your videos ...learn a lot....when I ship something Fragile I always mark on all sides of the box in Red "Fragile" and take Pics of the item as I am Packing It and the word Fragile and Pics of Shipping Label on Box when finished packing, I only had 1 thing arrived broken and I tried to put in Claim to USPS which is so hard to do and it didn't go thru the item sold for $59.99. The item was free for me so I really wasn't out any money, but it is so Hard to file a claim with USPS. Thanks for the Great Videos...Happy New Year

I’ve had people who work for USPS and my husband who worked for UPS tell me that marking a box “Fragile” makes absolutely no difference. It won’t be treated any differently. It’s only packing the item correctly that matters.

My go 2 tape! I love the sweater and I feel your pain. It seems like when I get one return there will be more to follow within a day, then I may not get any for a month. I recently had one that was my fault as well. I wrapped 2 glass pans with a ton of American Bubble Boy bubble wrap but only one survived the trip. It wasn’t a high dollar sale but I still feel bad when the buyer is upset. I also wonder what I could have done better to keep that from happening. I guess it’s a part of doing business but here’s to less returns in 2025. Cheers!

I have an Etsy store, and I learned the hard way regarding having to give refunds. I no longer give them to protect myself from alot of scammers out there. Etsy does not require that we give refunds, however if the buyer will return the item to me I will give them something else from my page of equal value, to keep them happy.

The USPS insurance process is much better than it use to be. I processed a claim recently for a damaged item that I bubble wrapped well and it still got broken. USPS sent me a check and it was definitely worth my time for the high dollar item, so maybe filing a claim for the crockpot would be worth the effort :)

You hit it on the head Kevin, envy is one of the worse of the vices....but it is one that often goes unnoticed by most people, and I think we are all prone to it. So I think the insight to even call it out is a singular grace...and it means that we can work on the virtue opposing it, brotherly love.

Sorry to hear about that kind of bad day. Even if you’re doing better financially now it still sucks to have three returns in one day. When it rains it pours. With that crockpot that you shipped out that got broken, I would bet that you also had to reimburse the buyer the shipping cost as well. The last item that I sold on ebay was a vintage 1940s glass ceiling light globe that got lost in the mail (USPS) and was never found. I ended up having to reimburse the buyer the $39.99 for the cost of the item and $22.00 for shipping.

The sweater is great, very unique. Your daughter has a good eye for something homemade with love. Sorry to hear about the returns. I don't offer returns. I only had one thing knock on wood that arrived broken. Of course it was on the West coast. I cringe when I have something breakable going west but I know it can happen so I chance it with not offering returns. I just refund their money and take their word for it. Wishing you and your family a Happy New Year! I need to get things moving no sales yet for 2025 kind of scary. Good Luck to you and keep those videos coming love everyone.

I’m a small time reseller, 5-6 sales per week. I had purchased some Merrell slip- ons on Poshmark & didn’t like the way they fit but didn’t return them. Listed them on four different sites & finally sold on Marketplace for $35 + shipping, same amount I paid for them. The buyer messaged me to ask if they were knock-offs because they were so slippery when worn outside she almost fell & she said they didn’t feel heavy like her other Merrill’s. I told her I didn’t think they were fake but said she could return for a refund. Haven’t received them back but probably can’t re-list them knowing they could be fake. I’m out the sale & will have to pay return shipping fee. Good thing I don’t rely on reselling to live on!

I used to get a little worked up over returns when I first started on eBay. The biggest loss I had was an international sale of a sealed train set. The person paid $200 plus shipping on it, then they opened a return, however, with international the person got their money back and I was out the item. This one hurt bad. But in the long run, I just had to keep moving forward and keep selling, now I have been notified by eBay that I had outperformed 98% of the sellers on eBay in the NFL category, and my new goal is to reach #1 in that category, but I also want to reach that status in 2 other categories as well.

I got a return and it 100% messed with me. For me it's not even so much the amount of money but the blatant lie the buyer gives when it's so obviously just buyer's remorse. I do my best to be fully honest and transparent so when I see the written lie... it really pains me. I don't like to compare amazon and eBay because they are 2 totally different things. Amazon allows returns, but the money is still held in their store. You have the ability to know you're buying 100% new on amazon, Ebay is for the most part a USED item type store... people should set realistic expectations and do their research. I shouldn't have to pay for what should be the buyers responsibility.

Here is Canada we are getting charged for some Amazon returns. Unless it is broken or the wrong item sent they are charging you to return.

@@lvallese3967 I wouldn't be surprised if like 95% of the people who shop on amazon didn't know it's also people who re-sell. The vast majority of people (if I had to guess) think it's brand-new items from Jeff not from random resellers. My own parents didn't know this until I explained it to them. Yet another reason comparing to Amazon is still not a valid argument IMO. ALSO, even though the money is not specifically held in your amazon store... AMAZON itself holds the money as a CREDIT. Ebay does not.

I’m getting sales and then cancels .. Better price a buyer said so I think eBay is upto their trucks again showing lower prices! It’s usually DO YOU WANT TO RETURN .. when those emails go out I get 2-3 returns at once! Crazy!

I feel your pain. I just had a pair of Nike Air Jordans fail Ebay inspection. Had to refund $400! Plus a pair of boots that the heels fell of for $50. Not in your position financially, so this kills me!
