A huge part of what makes Car Share so funny is the music played on the radio linking in with what they are talking about, the radio adverts and the road sights.

Car Share, written & directed by Peter Kay, was a series he made a few years back now. It's absolutely hilarious. It's just about two people going to work (& coming home). The comedy in it is genius, yet simple. The music is fabulous 👌. Well worth a watch.

People used to use the excuse of "I'm just looking for my dog" when confronted about what they were doing hanging around, and why they had to suddenly leave in a hurry... And that's how it got the name dogging.

If my dad was going somewhere (the garage, the petrol station, the gliding club etc), he would always tell me that he was going to see a man about a dog (in other words he didnt like me being nosy). I was always disappointed when he didnt come home with a dog when he knew I wanted a pet dog.
@partytime3778

I don't know where you heard that from but it's not correct, in fact it's totally the opposite. Dogging comes from the word dogger. A Guy who used the excuse of having to take the dog for a walk, leaving the house every night without the family becoming suspicious. They would walk the dog around cars and have a good look inside. Hence these guys became doggers and they went dogging.
@dontaskme7004
@dontaskme7004 2 жыл бұрын
@@partytime3778 Police coined the term because people used the excuse of looking for their dog. They'd get calls from people who were concerned about random people hanging around near parks, woodland, or any area where it seemed out of place. They'd scatter and if stopped they'd say they were looking for their dog.
@2eleven48
@2eleven48 2 жыл бұрын
@@denisemeredith2436 ...the usual meaning for 'going to see a man about a dog' is a euphemism for going for a wee (or poo) in a public loo. There's quite a lot of them, as with 'going to shake hands with the Devil'.

Some years ago one of my (now passed away) uncles made exactly this mistake at the 80th birthday party of one of my aunts. There was a second or so of silence then the whole table erupted in laughter with my uncle looking bemused and my aunt (his wife) desperately trying to explain he meant dog walking.

This skit always reminds me of a similar conversation I once had with a work colleague. One Friday afternoon I asked her if she had anything interesting planned for the weekend. Her: 'Not really I'm just going dogging.' Me: 'Um sorry. Say that again, I don't think I heard properly.' Her: 'I'm going dogging. With my sister-in-law. I used to do it on my own, but then I found our she did it too so we started doing it together. It's much more fun with the two of us and has become our thing.' Me: 'Er really? With your sister-in-law? And the pair of you do this a lot?' Her: 'Oh yes, every weekend. It really helps to keep us fit!' Me: 'I can imagine.' By this time the office around us had gone suspiciously quiet and I could tell everyone around us was now avidly listening in to our conversation, although she seemed oblivious to this. Now she really didn't seem the type and even if she was I doubted she'd be talking about it openly in the office, so I suspected we were talking at cross purposes but couldn't resist keeping the conversation going. Me: So when you sister-in-law go dogging do your husbands go with you?' Her: 'Ha! I've tried but hubby say it's a bit too energetic for him.' Me: 'Not their thing?' Her: 'No my hubby prefers to stay home and have a bit of peace and quiet watching the sport on TV. But he says it's great that me and the sister-in-law have found something fun to do together. Especially since it doesn't cost him anything. And he says it's done wonders for my figure! ' Me: 'So they're happy for you both to go out on your own?' Her: 'Oh yes. With the two of us we're fine and of course we have Sam and Bobby to look after us.They're both pretty big and would protect us if we needed it.' Me: 'Ah...okay... Um, by the way when you say you go dogging what exactly do you mean?' Her: 'Don't you know? I mean it's funny we're having this conversation and now you tell me you don't even know what dogging is!' Me: 'I do. But I think we may have different definitions. Explain to me what you think it is and then I can tell if we're talking about the same thing.' Her: 'Well it's obvious. It's when we take Sam and Bobby for a walk, except we don't walk we jog. Dog-jogging instead of dog-walking. But me and my sister-in-law call it dogging for short.' Me: 'Sam and Bobby are your dogs?' Her: ' Yes. Sam's our Retriever and Bobby is their Alsatian.' Me: 'Um, you may want to call it something else. Most people think dogging is another thing entirely and they might misunderstand if you go around saying you and your sister-in-law enjoy dogging...' At that point I had to explain to her what dogging was. Her face was a picture. As you might imagine the rest of the office were crying with laughter.🤣

Peter Kay wrote a few comedy series, Phoenix Nights (which set British club, I don't know if some of jokes would cross over), and there was spin off called Max and Paddy Road to Nowhere (the bouncers living in campervan) and then this was from Car Share (which is just them commuting to work, and funny things happen). He also did a mock version of Xfactor type shows. and He did John Smiths (beer advert) which are funny. and then any of his stand up or appearance on chatshows like parkinson or Jonathan Ross, or even local news usually chaos 😄

You have to see his 2 series of "Phoenix nights" where he plays the disabled owner of The Phoenix Club, a traditional Northern working mens club, he also plays Max one of the bouncers on the door. The cast is fantastic, the series ran at the same time as the "Office" in the UK and was massively over shadowed by it , though some say it was better, one of the reasons for this might of been his portrayal of Northern working class people as opposed to the offices Southern depiction of contemporary life but who knows, in any case, really worth a good look !!!!

Read a good story about him on Popbitch last week. Apparently when he was playing an arena, he demanded an extra fee of £1 for each car parked in the arena car park on the grounds that they wouldn't be there if it weren't for him. Ended up being paid £8 as the massive car park next to the arena wasn't actually owned by them: they just had a small 8 space one.
