The framework of this speech is a perfect example of something I was taught long ago about speaking: "Tell them what you're going to tell them, tell them, then tell them what you just told them." It really keeps people's anticipation and engagement, and he did it wonderfully here...including (or especially!) that left hook of "sexy=smart". This was a really great speech, and I remember enjoying it years ago...thanks for the great breakdown!!

His speech was very good, he stayed on the young people level so they could understand what he said. I am 65 years old and he capture my attention, I agree with you that he rehearse a lot so that he would not forget and make mistakes, and he kept their focus on what he was saying to them.

You know, he funded a private program that tracks down human traffickers, and has the government use it. It helped catch more than our own FBI, Border control, CIA, etc.. , bc our govt doesn’t really give AF. He’s a good human, bc his name is Chris.

Words are powerful, more than we think. He wanted to make this speech because he knows young people are being tricked, about Hollywood, about appearance (fashion, makeup, etc), about jobs, about creating and shaping the world around us. He didn’t want to be too explicit so he spoke in general. He obviously practiced a lot with the speech, and I think he used the most powerful tool in communication..being emotionally attached to the words you say. Feeling them inside, feeling each word, building up an energy so powerful. That energy he created is attached to the words he’s saying, the words goes into the mind of people but the energy goes into their bodies. This tool makes people feel whatever you want, they can even cry if you want them to. English is an explicit language so you have to build it up quickly, Romance languages like mine allow you to build it up more slowly and shape it perfectly. This is the magic of writing, leaving your emotions there so the reader can get those emotions and carry them inside..

Superb Speech in 3 minutes to relate, to get the attention from the audience, to share his experience, to give values that is needed for this generations and to have a big change to all listeners for the better. It’s a big help if you really know the real meaning of every word he said and put it in your heart, mind and put it into action and works for it. He’s a good public speaker like Denzel Washington.

I am enjoying your channel, coach Alex. I have watched several of your videos now. It's amazing to see how you can zero in on everything good speakers do and say, and present all these strategies to your own audience so concisely, so clearly, and so engagingly! It's impressive. I had a hard time believing that Ashton Kutcher, being the person I think he is, would have practised this speech so many times, but you convinced me with your reaction that he may well have. It's obvious that he would have had those three points: opportunity, staying sexy, and living your life, planned out beforehand. I am learning a lot. Thanks for sharing your communication knowledge and all your insights. GD

Excellent...he instantly redefines sexy at an extremely influential period in his audiences life. He relates and humbles himself to have the audience see him as an everyday human. His emphasis on opportunity being hardwork on your part and not something randomly extended or offered to you is pivotal to early success in anything you desire. Even what he chose to wear made him approachable and subdued...he wanted to speak out as Chris and step out of the lime light for this. Awesome

To everyone that doesn't know this. Ashton (chris) is one of the best types of people that this world has to offer. Don't believe me? KZbin the video of him pleading to the courts to fund a program that saves hundreds and hundreds of children being trafficked for sex. This man alone along with his team have saved the lived of so many children and the things he had to witness first hand in the name of helping children is horrific and I know it haunts him so badly, yet he still... keeps... Going.. He's a great man.

I thought he did quite well. He looked around the room, made eye contact with his audience, the message was not disjointed, just with his body language - this engages the audience. His pitch varied, his intonation was great. I think there were a few distractions with the uh's etc but when you have a group of people yelling intermittently I can see how dodging that would be difficult. You're 100% right: he crushed it. I watched him in a congressional hearing on child trafficking. He has 2 daughters I believe, and he was not acting - he began crying - imaging if his kids were kidnapped and trafficked. Bringing Woke-craft into a speech is a cop out. It unnaturally elicits emotions with the overconfident assumption that it doesn't have to justify it's doing so and moves on to the conclusion faster than Logan Paul can sell bad examples and merch to minors. I know the audience was young, but one would have hoped they were all over six years old. Screaming is something preschoolers do when playing. I cannot fathom that behavior in young adults. Can you imagine trying to hear what he said and standing next to even one of those screamers? Horrible. This is a great speech, leaves the audience of young people with at least one point to relate to and act upon for their own lives. His style is directly from the first lesson in Toastmasters Speaker training: tell them what you are going to tell them, tell them, and remind them what you told them. His anecdotes are warm and personable and effective again to the genre. He also defined his three points with three more words, which enhances the key notes of his speech. Thanks.

Showing the teenagers that they have “agency”. I rarely hear this word used like this. It was almost refreshing.

Why "almost"? Is this for emphasis? Or are you angry with your father?

Every job you do in this life, make sure you do your best. It doesn't matter what it is. Every person has a job to do, and it all helps a business run and helps others do their jobs. So, someone who collects garbage makes our world cleaner and safer, someone who cleans offices makes it safe and usable for office staff, someone who works in a grocery store helps people find food and get food, etc. Also, doing your job well and being kind to others makes you look good to others and improves you chances of finding other work. Ashton had it right in this speech.

Great breakdown The message I heard was of gratitude … And how gratitude is that firm foundation for ambition. Gratitude for who you are because that is the starting point of who you can become.

Most valuable quote for his audience here is, that being 'sexy' really means being smart, being thoughtful and being generous. Following to that, he puts his audience on the same level as the most powerful people in the world. Every parent should take this magnificent speech into account whilst raising their children. I know I will, without any doubt.
