This video is great. I'm a new teacher. I just received my TEFL certificate and am being mentored by a senior teacher at a language center near my home. This information will be very helpful to me. I really enjoy your teaching style. You are a wonderful communicator. I have given a "thumbs up" and subscribed. Thank you!

Thank you sir. May I know what are the similarities between Communicative Language Teaching and Action-oriented Approach?
@JayRichardsonEACschool2 жыл бұрын
Action oriented I presume is a version of tpr: total physical response, which is a teacher centred way of teaching phrasal verbs in a stress free way. I love that technique, however, it's not designed for communication, it's a kinesthetic approach.

Thank you Jay, this is a great video! I really believe in CLT, but sometimes I find it hard to apply it to my teaching context. I'm a private English teacher... I teach one-on-one online classes 😅 since this approach is highly based in student interaction, most activities examples I see wouldn't exactly work in my context. The cartoon one would, surely, but most ideas I find around wouldn't. Of course some can be adapted, but I often find it confusing and kind of hard not to make the class teacher-centered. Do you (or any other fellow teachers) have any tips?
@JayRichardsonEACschool Жыл бұрын
I can totally understand that online classes can be very challenging in this. If you are teaching in a one-and-one environment it's also almost impossible because there is not another student for so you lie not to interact with however you yourself could role play as the second student and interview each other for information

What is the role of the mother tongue in CLT? In non-English spoken countries, it's hard for beginners to communicate in English....What should I do? BTW, Thank you for making incredible videos🙏
@JayRichardsonEACschool2 жыл бұрын
That's a good question. It is a big area for debate. Communication doesn't mean being perfect in English, it means getting your point across... research fluency over accuracy.... fluency comes first. I think it's acceptable to use mother tongue to her thr ball rolling and achieve momentum, but switch to target language as soon as possible after repetition and practice

In Communicative language teaching, the target language is a vehicle for classroom communication, not just the object of study. What do you think this means?
@JayRichardsonEACschool2 жыл бұрын
In my understanding of this statement (which I agree with by the way), it means clt is designed to be used, useful and beneficial to the learners development. It is not designed to be an academic theory restricted to university studies.... in other words, it's a real and valid tool used to teach people a second language.
