Great work. I agree with notion of building terminology.

There's a lot to the history of the Sharpshooters. Been doing this for 10 years and always finding new things about them.

You are a saint sir! I would have just used it as firewood. Sometimes de-farbing vs. making new can be a real challenge. I do enjoy your reenactment tilt to woodworking. Keep up the good work.

Lack of budget sometimes leads to great resourcefulness. I thought firewood pile myself, too when I first saw it, but thought, what the heck, I'm up for a challenge! The same soldier also gave me an old Vietnam era ammo box to convert into a period correct style crate...that was a headache! Thanks for watching.

Soon! It's been a long off season and we've been making a list of ideas. We'll probably shoot a couple at our school of the soldier event at the end of the month and more field videos as the reenacting season picks up. Thanks for watching and commenting!

You are like the Norm Abrams (Old Yankee Workshop and This Old House) of reenacting. I am envious!

Is there a reason why you used bondo instead of a wood filler to fill the holes? Another cheap filler to fill holes is to use wood glue mixed with sawdust, my father used that a lot.
@CompanyD2ndUSSS7 жыл бұрын
Mostly because the holes were so deep and because I was going to paint it. Another good choice would be Durham's water putty which Diresta often uses. Wood filler and home made glue/sawdust I find best for smaller gaps, dents, and dings or when trying to match the wood is important. Repairs can also vary based on the amount of durability required like filling a knot hole with epoxy. It's great to keep a tool box full of repair tricks. Thanks for the great the comment!

What would you even put in that besides cartridges? Or do you use it just for show for spectators? I'm a minimalist at events. I don't like having a lot of stuff to keep track of and worry about losing. I roll my own cartridges and don't have the time or energy to make enough rounds to fill that nor the money for that much powder. Just curious as to what y'all actually put in them. I carry all my stuff for events in my knapsack.

Well we are planning on filling one completely with arsenal packs for next year. Soldiers in camp used these for all sorts of things. I've seen photos where they were turned into bookcases, tables, stools, you name it. A soldier on campaign would never lug one around. Once in camp they were piled everywhere as garbage waiting for an industrious soldier to repurpose. Though, if you did roll 1000 rounds, you'd have an exciting and busy weekend.

Company D 2nd USSS 1000 rounds! Good god. I could just sit around between battles selling rounds and getting rich.

Defarbing on a budget... Step 1: Get an entire workshop. Step 2: Profit. But I do want to say, great video and I love the content.
