This is my main computer, a nightmare since I bought it. Overheating is a problem with this model. Occasionally runs for hours without overheating. It's a design defect. I thought I would clean the fan, but I'm not doing this to it until I have to. Very interesting to see it all taken apart though. Thanks guy.

The touchpad cable on one side connected to a motherboard and on the other side to a touchpad. On both sides it can be loose or disconnected. If not at motherboard, means you will have to remove palmrest and check if cable is connected to a touchpad.

Yep, black and whiter cords with some type of gold colored connecter on the end of it should be a WiFi antenna cables. What you need to do is to place it back. WiFi card is located in the same area where memory sticks and hard drive located. Make sure they connected correct. Black - main White - aux

Yep it is soldered. I would not recommend to re-solder it unless you are a really good in that. If you are not, than better not. The easy way is to change a motherboard that will have a possibility to install a CPU. But it will cost together something about 150 for used motherboard + CPU... not sure if you will need another heatsink with another fan...
@regazzz11 жыл бұрын
You will need to take everything including a palmrest off to be able to reach fan/heatsink, than you can use canned air, just do not fan blades to rotate fast, it can make some damages. Also make sure you will remember where all screws and cables coming from.

Hi, at the start this laptop isn't a gaming laptop at all. You can upgrade memory, you can upgrade hdd, you can add even another one instead of DVD drive. But to tell exactly about CPU you need to know a motherboard number. It should be located behind memory sticks (if you will check, please remove battery and unplug from power source first) On the model that in this video cpu is soldered/glued to motherboard...

You can put more memory in it and maybe change CPU, but the question is what motherboard do you have. Some CQ57 have glued/soldered CPU it makes practically impossible to upgrade. My laptop is pretty fast, but this Windows rating is also low, because my hard drive is not SSD. If it will be SSD - rating will be higher. But good SSD will cost about third price of my laptop, so I will not upgrade it without needs.

The laptop in this video is one with soldered CPU, so if you can find a motherboard number (you have to take memory out and find a number xxxxxx-001) than I will be able to tell you does your motherboard have soldered CPU or not. Even when you will take only a memory out, don't forget to take out a battery and also to use antistatic device. But at least take a battery out.

I've owned my CQ57 for two years now and its noisy, so I figured the fan would need some cleaning. Is spray air enough, or do I have to take it apart. If the latter: Will I have to remove the back and everything to access the fan, or is it enough to simply (somehow) remove the Keyboard and upper panel?
@james770115 жыл бұрын
no! U will need to access your CPU fan from the back of your machine. Be very careful and take out the whole CPU and heatsink and thermal paste as well... Take some alcohol and lent free clothe (coffee filter is great) and clean off the thermal paste . And clean out the fan. Reapply a small amount of thermal paste and gently and carefully reinstall the CPU fan.

Hey bro can you help me out. My brother has one of these laptops and he asked me what it means when the little white light (located close to where you plug in the power cord on the laptop) means if it turns red? He don't know much about laptops and I don't have it with me to see what he's talking about. His daughter pointed out to him that the light always stayed white but now for some reason it turned red. Thanx for the video. I was considering upgrading the SLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWW cpu in my moms laptop but now I see you can't since it's embedded which sucks. I'll tell her to buy a new laptop now.
@regazzz8 жыл бұрын
Even upgrading a CPU might not help. Also be aware that different CQ57 can have slightly different motherboards. To check if CPU can be upgraded you need to find a XXXXXX-001 or 005 number and than search for pictures of a used motherboard on eBay. If you see an empty CPU socket - that it means it can be actually upgraded. Good luck!
@frybry018 жыл бұрын
I know. I've seen several mb's on ebay for a cq57 but there was never a close up of the cpu., so with your vid, I paused it and looked with my magnifying glass, lol, and was able to see it better. I can't believe HP put out such a slow system even in 2010 when cq57 came on the market. Told my mom never buy those cheap walmart laptops again. They can rarely be upgraded.
@regazzz8 жыл бұрын
I just checked eBay and there are a few mobos with replaceable CPUs. Sorry, in this case my video is a bit misleading because you really need to check a motherboard number. You find it somewhere at the memory location. Find a number that is looks like 6 digits like XXXXXX- and another 3 digits after dash something like 647174-001 will be with removable CPU and 653985-001 will be non replaceable.
@frybry018 жыл бұрын
Thanx but not for what Ill pay. ($25 is most I'll pay) and I only buy new internal parts when working on laptops(got screwed a few times in the past buying used parts that didn't work when I received them). I'll give her my 07 toshiba which is c2d 2.2ghz and 10x faster. Then sell the cq57 on craigslist or ebay for parts. Oh and I upgraded the ram on her cq57 to 8gb last year and it's still slow and dvd drive hasn't been detected in device manager since last christmas.Stepdad has the same laptop his dvd drive will only open by clking eject, not with the button on the drive. They should be called Comcrap instead of compaq,lol.

If i wanted to replace my motherboard for this laptop, would i have to take the screws out of the back? Or is there a way to just take off the front panel?
@matthewnickl987110 жыл бұрын
SteeleKnight2000 You would need to take everything out of the back (so yes) like in this video to be able to lift the old motherboard out of the machine and put in a new one. It's tedious but not hard if you follow the video and you're gentle. However, do you already have a replacement motherboard? I was pricing them online just a few moments ago and they sell for about $100.00, you can buy a used and refurbished model for only $150.00. If you haven't already bought the motherboard, I would suggest waiting until you have enough money and just buying one of the newer models for a couple hundred. They'll come with a warranty and everything. I wouldn't replace the motherboard unless you already have one that you paid for already or you can get one for free.
@SteeleKnight200010 жыл бұрын
Matthew Nickl Thanks, and no i don't have a replacement motherboard. And i'll probably just not replace it, i'll just wait till i build my PC.
