1994 version was an amazimg uprade, I mean, just waw! With the sound from Tie Fighter. Was the best upgrade ever seen on a game. I loved the 1998 too but I missed the music transitions and the lassers were almost invisible at a long distance.

Yeah imagine everyone's disappointment when GOG released only the 1993 and 1998 versions of this game and didn't include the 1994 version. The 1993 version is pretty much a throw away version. They did include the 1994 version after a few weeks of gamers complaining to them and added the 1995 version to the Tie Fighter bundle as well. I'm glad you enjoyed the vid :)

Cool video here. Man, I love this game. I finally beat it and it's 2 expansions about a year and a half ago. I really wish the '98 version (which is the version I favor), kept the NPC wingmen to use on missions. I really missed that feature from the previous versions. Other than that, I had a blast playing this game (even though some missions were insanely difficult to beat). I'm actually one of the very few people that prefer _'X-Wing'_ over _'TIE Fighter',_ which almost everyone else will favor. My favorite ship in Star Wars was/is the X-Wing so I naturally gravitated towards it and this game. I actually started on _'TIE Fighter'_ but, due to certain negative circumstances, I just stopped playing it. Recently though, I have really been thinking about re-starting _'TIE Fighter'_ and eventually moving on to _'X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter'_ and _'X-Wing: Alliance'._ One of the main reasons for my renewed interest is the XWVM mod that has been under development for the classic _'X-Wing'_ game which is taking the game and upgrading the graphics and sounds to more current gen ones. It looks and sounds amazing. Can't wait for them to finish and release it. I just hope everything turns out fine and they can release the mod without any hassles from Di$ney or Lucasfilm. If anyone is interested in this mod, look for XWVM mod videos. Here's a preview: kzbin.info/www/bejne/goG5mp6fZZesiJI

@@franciscop1192 I wish people would support this mod - which is made by fans for fans - instead of drooling at the new "squadrons" game from EA. A company that has proven time and time again that it's only interest is shamelessly sucking the most $$$$ they can out of their customers. I'd rather play this mod than EA's new game which basically rips off features and mechanics from the classic _'X-Wing'_ PC games. I also wish more KZbinrs who focus on gaming, would promote this mod but sadly, hardly anyone is talking about it, even now after over a year (maybe more) in the making of this mod...

@@RiverOfBlacklights Agree with you, old school people that usually have the brain to install mods (normaly those are very easy to install but you know most of the new gen ppl) should know about this, I'm looking for the official modders page, I really want to contribute, I'm sure I wouldnt play on vr, but om screen.

Well in everyone's defense the mod has still not been released to the public. It was supposed to have a demo release around Christmas 2016 and it's now 4 years later without even a release date. I've been following the mod and would love to try it but at this point I'm not holding my breath. Personally I think the game holds up extremely well and isn't really in need of a remake. There's no modern Star Wars game that can touch Xwing and Tie Fighter and the later installments of Xwing Vs. Tie Fighter and Xwing Alliance. They are games of a bygone era. EA would never make any games like this because they would never sell to the mainstream. They are some of the litest flight sims ever made but still not lite enough for the mainstream. People want simple Rogue Squadron gameplay. I hated Rogue Squadron when it came out because I was used to Xwing and Tie Fighter. I was like "What's this? Star Wars for dummies?"
@RiverOfBlacklights4 жыл бұрын
@@franciscop1192 Right but, I don't think they're taking contributions or anything like that. If they did, Di$ney/Kennedyfilm would surely step in and stop the whole thing cause it's making money for someone else, not them.

My collectors CDROM for Macintosh had the Music and sounds of the 1994 edition, had the HD cutscenes of the 98 edition, but the ingame graphics of the 94 edition- everything was flat shaded without textures. I don't think I'll ever get to do that again.
@captainviggo45754 жыл бұрын
This is also how I remember playing the game on Mac back then. And I think there was a setting and/or a key to press to show original cutscenes instead of the remade ones.

The original 1993 release isn't so bad... the only really annoying issue (for me, at least) is the stiff/unresponsive controls. The 1994 CD version was a huge improvement in this regard, and this is why it's normally my version of choice.

The original version should still show the Star Wars logo receding into the distance. The scaling effect to match what you see in the movie was restricted on slower processors, but with a 486 DX and the settings cranked up, the first part was just like the '94 release.

You are correct - this is affected by the "machine speed" setting in the install/setup program. I found this by accident.

@@OldsXCool Yeaaa, the graphics in some overhauled cutscenes were not that good, it feels bland. I'm pretty sure they kept the 1994 Tour Of Duty cutscenes. With all these issues and complants from the 1998 release, I somewhat want to remake the damn thing with better stuff xd

One thing I don't understand is why in 1998 version they made lasers come out somewhere ahead of the ship. They look tiny and too short when compared to satisfying red bazookas of 1993/94 versions.
@OldsXCool4 жыл бұрын
I completely agree. Other than the engine sound in the 98 version that really bugged me too. It took me a while to realize what felt different about the 98 release and then I notice that the lasers came out of nowhere.
@eccentricgamer41114 жыл бұрын
In the 1998 version, did they update ALL of the game's cutscenes or just the opening and transitions?
@RandolphX_962 жыл бұрын
So basically the 98 version, I'm pretty sure they kept the 1994 Tour Of Duty cutscenes, some transitions were overhauled such as the Intro, Getting Captured by the Empire, Getting help from the rebels, The shuttle leaving from the Independence. I think they removed the X-Wing launch scenes, correct me if I'm wrong.

Use cannons linked to 4. Since lasers don't converge, aim your ship slightly to one side and you can single shot a fighter.

@OldsXCool2 жыл бұрын
It would be really nice if they would just upgrade the graphics and sound without touching anything else. I did not like the way Squadrons played with its massively oversimplified resource management and auto aiming system, but you need to have all that playing a game on a console with a standard controller. The game would have never sold had it been just like these games but with better graphics. It's a good thing I don't mind the old graphics and sounds.

It's mindboggling they messed up the 1998 version when the Xwing in Balance Of Power is perfect. Why not just port that Xwing back to the 1993 game ? Makes no sense to me...

That flagging fuckery is infuriating! I loved this game and spent many, many hours playing it. I don't think it holds up well today. Seems like the people who designed some of the missions were unable to tell "difficult" and "needlessly frustrating" apart.
@OldsXCool6 жыл бұрын
Well I'm just happy that UMG didn't block it from every country on the planet. Honstly X-Wing doesn't hold up as well as Tie Fighter does. Mostly because of the music. The music in X-Wing has always grated on my nerves because of its repetitive loop. The 1998 version has the CD music and doesn't make my ears bleed. Tie Fighters Imuse soundtrack was amazing which made its 1998 release sort of a let down with the CD music. Plus the Rebel ships just aren't as cool on the inside as the Imperial Tie ships.
@pqsnet5 жыл бұрын
Wow they really fucked up the game in the last one, when they removed the epic original X-wing 95 mission score... Stupid, stupid, stupid.
@OldsXCool5 жыл бұрын
At the time it was the right thing to do. CD music was the wave of the future. It wasn't until much later that people realized that the iMUSE music fit the Tie Fighter and X-Wing games much better. I did like that they added engine sounds in the 98 release but they were a bit too loud and grating. Just goes to show that the latest isn't always the greatest.
