Got the blind tone challenge right. The softer attack of the A2 magnets on the 50’s neck pickup for the cleans and the slightly hotter output of the 60’s bridge pickup for the distortion gave it away for me.

@@gkott78 The R8 has the Custom Buckers in it and there imported , they are very close in tone but there’s just something about the Custom Buckers, the tone is really luscious and you get that feedback from the pickups if your going through a cranked tube amp, The neck is what sold me on the R8

I have the 50 in cherry red. Great beauty. Burstbuckers are great Alnico 2 pickups; buttery blues secrets. The perfect mix would be a 60’ neck profil on my standard 50’ because of my small hands that are getting tired fastly with the chunky neck.

50s for me due to the neck shape. I really found my happy place with the Slash signature. The pickups are hotter but can still pull off PAF tones and it has a beautiful full neck that feels just a little more rounded on the shoulders. I prefer the Slash over my 50s, which I prefer over the 60s model. Currently on the hunt for a 59 reissue. I'm a sucker for a good les paul

Landon, so while I was watching your video I went to Sweetwater to look at weights of Les Pauls. And I noticed the option to add a plek for $300. Knowing that Gibson already does this I sent my Sweetwater rep some feedback. He downplayed it and I responded strongly and requested my comments be directed to management. This is either a mistake that should be corrected to keep from ripping people off or this is an ethics issue. It will be interesting to see how they respond.
@landonbailey9 ай бұрын
this is on their Plek page. Should I Plek My New Guitar? The big question is: if you're purchasing a brand-new guitar, will it really benefit from being Plek'd? In almost all cases, the answer is a resounding "Yes!" Unless a guitar comes from the manufacturer already Plek'd, nearly all guitars will see a dramatic improvement in setup and playability after undergoing the Plek process at Sweetwater.

@DaveGeezer9 ай бұрын
@@kkrsnn5632 not sure. But I think the SG’s would be slimmer but just my guess. I’m Gibson not Epiphone. Epiphone seem to have similar necks all around.
@MisterJWJ719 ай бұрын
I have an Epiphone ES-345 limited edition and the specs say it has a 1960s slim taper neck. I know there are minor differences in such measurements between American made Gibsons and Chinese made Epiphones. There could even be a difference in a "60s neck" on a Les Paul and on a 335/345/355. But assuming that the 60s style neck is similar on that LP to my 345, it may be thinner than the 50s style neck but, it's not a "thin" neck. It has some beefiness to it and I like that. As for the difference between the tuners on these two LPs, I think the look of the tulip shaped knobs is "classic" Gibson. Granted the plastic knobs are more likely to break over time compared to the metal knobs on the Grovers.

To me it all just boils down to neck profile, I have a 60’s with the slim taper but as time goes by I keep having more appreciation for the thicker necks as well heh… I also have a LP Special which has that much thicker neck too though. Funny thing is I just always reach for my SG’s though, they are just so much more comfortable to play, at least to me. The bottom line is they’re all fantastic guitars and I love them, I always laugh when I see all the hate comments about Gibson in general.
