Thailand is a better place because it's safer, who cares about the long flight, safety is the number one concern

yep, little odds of being drugged then robbed by your date, which happens in Colombia a lot. Don't get me wrong, I've busted plenty big nuts in pretty girls in Colombia, but that is only part of life, and its NEVER free no matter what anybody tells you. Its ok if that is your thing, but peole need to admit the facts that Colombia is a hooker place, and especially Medellin, its loaded with hookers or what I call semi-hookers, and with that lifestyle comes certain risks to the guy

Back in my younger days, getting robbed at gunpoint didn't faze me and didn't keep me from traveling to dangerous places and putting myself in dangerous situations. But now that I'm 54, I'll take Thailand over Colombia any day. I've had enough action and shouldn't be alive. No need to push it further. I see a nice, chill, tropical beach in my future. 🌴

I prefer to induce my own hardship and challenges than have it thrust on me at the expense of my own safety. I can understand the appeal of Colombia for people that don't have that drive to introduce their own chaos.

I was also robbed at gunpoint in Medellin while walking home with a family having ice cream. Everyone seems fake, shallow, only interested in what they can get from you in Colombia, almost everyone seems shady/dirty minded, low levels of consciousness, low levels of thinking and operating as a human being. No heart, no compassion, pretty much pure selfishness and greed that is permeated in everything and everyone there.

I thought I was crazy for seeing the same things. I always tell people Colombians don't speak Spanish, they speak violence. They only don't try anything with you when they realize they'll be harmed and you're not the one to play with.

They’re only shallow with us foreigners .. I just spent two weeks in Colombia trying to immerse myself with the locals and sadly it was hard to do even for me - fluent in Spanish, etc.

My 17 year experience in Colombia could not be any different from the comments below. People are lovely and I never even had an argument except when I visit the USA. Thailand is great for massage but I hate A/C and oppressive heat so I spend most of in Medellin, Quindio, Boquete Panama and June July and August in Southern Brazil.

I am not sure where I come down on this because I have never visited Thailand and have never had a bad experience in Colombia. I feel like a lot of the negative comments regarding Colombia are all the same, safety and "cartel culture" whatever that is. I suspect the all the negative comments come from people that engaged in risky behavior or did not live the higher quality of life. I am married to a Colombiana so perhaps I get a different exposure. I am older and I am not seeking to create chaos . I am not sure what a young man would do in either country to keep themselves fed and housed, I am curious about that.

@@GVlog88I think it is quite normal, I live the city life in the US so perhaps I am accustomed to being cautious and the fact that I am married so I avoid a lot of the tourist traps helps as well. I cringe when someone posts they rented an Airbnb in Bello or met a girl on Tinder and came away with a bad impression. I am curious how the people that go to Colombia or Thailand support themselves , perhaps scraping by on nickels and dimes puts them in dangerous situations.
@GVlog886 ай бұрын
@mcluvin65 Especially since the pandemic, many digital nomads moved to places like Medellin. Historically, expats in many international centres have moved with a multinational. In that way, they arrive plugged into a corporate network, which also makes that first step easy. Digital nomads on the other hand look to make their own connections without a network and easily adopt a party lifestyle. But there are lots of opportunists there and as an ex pat you will always be approached one way or the other. You won't enjoy being more anonymous like at home
@mcluvin656 ай бұрын
@@GVlog88 that is a very generic explanation , I was looking for more specific examples, yes there are people that can work remotely for a big company or freelance but I don't think many of the people posting here Fall into those categories, I am curious about them.

The women thing is subjective. I know a guy that only likes Asians and thinks every other race is ugly lol. For me i like the Colombians and Brazilians. It's a make or break for me. With that being said, at my age safety is the #1 priority. I'd rather go live in Thailand if I had to choose between the 2.

I've had a connection with Latin America for decades and Colombia only more recently. What bothers me in Colombia is how (can I be honest?) extraordinarily naive, ignorant and ill equipped many or most Gringos I met are, especially in Medellin. It's hard not to like Colombia if you already have a relationship with Latin America, but there are a lot of people who should either not be there or should wisen up fast

I feel like 1980s NYC especially the Bronx prepared me well for Medellín in the 2020s. If you're modest and keep your wits about you, it's safe enough. But it's not for beginners, and there sure are a lot of beginners like you say. I feel like there are so many beginners that are easy targets that it makes life for me safer! Thailand is a vibe. Not dangerous at all unless you really go looking for trouble. It is almost too easy. The Thai language seems harder to me though!
