I loved this, I'm a beginning drummer and Slipknot's always been my favorite band so I've always looked up to Joey and always dreamed of meeting him someday but unfortunately, I can't now (R.I.P) I've always been upset about his death, and I just went to my 1st concert 2 week ago and it was Slipknot 25th anniversary concert in NJ, and Eloy and just Slipknot in general killed it and I love watching Jay Weinberg's drum cam videos on KZbin, so all 3 of them are special to me in some way, so this video was great!

Now with Eloy bringing the thunder I'm listening to Slipknot again with their rejuvenated power. @@bigmonk802 Slipknot got big because of Ozzfest. Most people in the audience don't notice "technical mastery", only the 5 to 10 percent of the audience that might be nerds. Height has nothing to do with how hard or soft someone hits. That's all about technique. The crowd feeds off the most basic thing they can relate to: the vibe and the vocals. And let's be honest, the masks and jumpsuits had more than a little bit to do with their appeal. All three drummers are awesome, it's not a contest.

So, I'll say, Joey, obviously the master creator, it's his band. Jay, copied Joey (fair enough) but added his own thing, individually VERY NICE, but I feel was a little too "rushed" for the songs AND rest of the band. Eloy....well....don't replace Eloy! Joey's style plus his own style that just sounds...👌...is a perfect tribute AND recreation of the songs, without changing the songs that we all love. Like...what else would you desire from someone in Eloy's place!
@miykoskinen

When Joey got fired I stopped listening to Slipknot and only a few months ago I started to listen to some of their "new" music. Anyway, I'm not a drummer and far away from being an expert, so for me, it's not just about who's more technical or faster, it's about what the music makes me feel. The energy, the desire to spend hours and hours listening to the same song on loop because listening to it once isn't enough. It's about connecting with the music, and that's what made me fall in love with Joey. I had never paid much attention to metal, much less focusing only on the drums, until I heard Joey playing. And suddenly I found myself watching his drum cams again and again, because even after watching over and over I am still impressed by how incredible and creative this guy was. And before, I would never have imagined that watching a show through the camera focused on the drummer could be so entertaining. And when I found out that he wrote many of the songs too, damn, yes I fell in love. 😅I love people that are passionate about the things they do, and I could feel the love he had for his music. So, yeah. I appreciate the talent of Jay and Eloy (I'm Brazilian too btw), and how they are honoring Joey, by being respectful and continuing his legacy. They are amazing drummers, but for me Joey will always be #1. Rest in peace Joey.🖤

Joey to me will always be the greatest Slipknot drummer. His speed and precision and creativity carried the band to what they are today. Joey is also in that class of effortless drummers. There are so few of them. Drummers that create a sound and do it, and when you see them, it's like they could do this all one handed (Think Mike Portnoy). He is #1. Jay came in and though he's a bit chaotic, carried the energy that Joey did on Stage, and most importantly the incredible live energy Slipknot had. Jay is a spectacular drummer, and just because he may be slightly below these 2 on the god scale, he's still other worldly. Eloy is probably the most technical, and gifted drummer of all of them. I wish Eloy was the guy that came in when Jay did when the band still wanted to play with that speed and raw energy in live shows. It seems obvious to me though that a change was made when the band chose to move on from Jay and bring in Eloy. Live shows should always tick up in tempo, but I've analyzed dozens of songs out on KZbin, and they tick down a few seconds from album on every song they play (this show in particular was almost painful and much slower than album speed.. Most songs by 5 to 10 seconds at end). I am curious to see an album created with Eloy though.

@@StephenTaylorDrums I fully agree here too. I think my biggest gripe to this point in the Eloy era, is that you went out and bought the McLaren F1 of Drummers, and to this point you've only driven it around your neighborhood stop sign to stop sign.... I did a song specific time analysis on the Sick New World 2024 Psychosocial video here on youtube in the comments section. The song with Joey in 2009 was 15 seconds ahead by the start of the breakdown at the end of the guitar solo. That's just... For a drummer like Eloy, that's purposeful.

Live shows don't ALWAYS need to be played faster. No one ever agreed to an immutable law like that. These guys are in their 50s and also the biggest metal band on the planet after Metallica. Maybe they made the deliberate choice to slow things a bit to get more mileage out of their tires
@briancave3823
@briancave3823 3 ай бұрын
@@user-tf4ho2uo1e It's obviously not an immutable law, and obviously not much more than my opinion. I am a musician... eh... I guess not really. I spent years as a last minute fill-in singer, grew up playing Jazz Saxophone and understand the guitar has 6 strings, and I can play a large number of songs only knowing 4 chords (if only I could figure out strumming patterns). But one thing I've always had and had better than most is an ear. I can hear when you are offbeat, out of tune, whatever. Live music played at normal or slightly slower tempo is boring. I know my opinion is worthless, and that's fine, and in a lot of ways Joey was playing too fast, but there has to be a happy medium. An incredibly talented group like Slipknot should be able to find it. Of course.. why bother for a moron like me I guess.

I didn't fell in love with Slipknot, I fell in love with Joey back in the day...and it took me many years and All Hope Is Gone to understand that: the writing, the playing, the energy, the absence of click tracks and just pure chaos, the abscence of click tracks. Then something changes, All Hope Is Gone was really a cold shower..something was off. I couldn't understand what happened to Joey...and then he was so sick that he couldn't play anymore for a while. If only we knew in time and the world was not such a fucked up place...I wonder if he was still alive if he could finally mend with the band. I, for myself, can't still forgive them fully. The lyrics of Pulse of The Maggots and Til We Die (two anthems for the fans from Joey and Paul) always echo in my head, Slipknot really felt like a family before Paul's death...and Joey was the golden child of the family. I miss him so much, he made me notice drums in music...he brought extreme drums to the mainstream. Rest in Power, True #1. P.s. before people start shitposting: I have all respect for Jay and Eloy yes, is the drummer of his generation for extreme metal. But there is something that you can substitute when life is dark and music clicks with you and comes in a swipe and saves you. That's what Joey did for me, and Joey's and Paul's songs really really spoke to me within my soul during my darkest years. I will always have to honour and tribute my drum hero. Peace.

I genuinely think Jay didn't write any song. That was one of the gripes of Jim Root with the new members during the recording sessions of The End, So Far. And in Vol.5 most parts and some full songs were already written by Joey. Raealistically after Paul's death and the split with Joey Jim and Mick stood up to write along with Corey most of the material. And in fact (no rankings here) you can feel the difference in mood, tone and sound affiliation between the old material and the new material. Joey and Paul were a killer combo at writing. I hope Eloy will arrive at writing something in full at some point, but I think Jay genuinely lost that train.

His internal metronome...intensity...technique...it all adds up which is why we never see/hear him modify slight details of songs to make them a little easier live. I feel bad for Jay, lots of people undermine his ability and his addition to the band, saying that slipknot is “back” since Eloy replaced him. Jay was an extremely unique drummer and brought an intensity to it all that just feels so different to the other two drummers, I understand not everyone will have the same opinion but he’s such a G.O.A.T. Personally, while I think Eloy is a wonderful drummer, I do really miss the speed they had with Jay and Joey. They’re taking all the tempos down, which does make it more consistent but sometimes blazing fast metal just hits harder for me. Joey will always be my favorite due to his influence in the scene and his overall vibrance in his style however, but Jay doesn’t deserve any of the disses he gets sometimes.

Idk how to explain it but its so satisfying how he just hits the drums and does all the drumfills to diasterpeice and people equal shirt, they're so precise with so much power, energy and flow and thrash that it makes you want to bang your head hard asf.

Joey used rudiments a lot that go unnoticed like in the build up he goes from a single stroke roll to a double stroke roll on the snare ( and the song purity is a paradiddle between the right foot and left hand ) and it looked like jay only played singles. couldn't really see eloy but he also sounded like singles. now that being said i'm excited to hear new music with eloy driving the slipknot bus bringing his latin percussion style into the mix as well which he has already in that first show the 3 snare part of psychosocial sounds amazing and way different than before.

Jay's probably at his best with a Suicidal Tendencies gig. Max did him no favors shoehorning him in Slipknot. I'm not sure which buildup you're talking about, but on this song, there's a buildup in the beginning where he goes from singles blast to doubles, and Eloy does that on his old playthrough. Can't tell on the cameraphone, but I doubt he stopped doing it? 🤷‍♂

if you watch joey's playing specifically compared to jay and eloy, you can really see the evolution to less body taxing movement. you can watch joey tense up for the faster blasts on his hands and then by the time we're watching jay 17 years later, it doesn't look as labored and stiff in those same parts. the techniques for speed evolved because of what joey did. Eloy brings the power joey had back, where jay brought the technique. not to say that either of them are better or worse, but that's where i see the difference. Joey was a product of the technique available at the time, Jay learned the better technique, but lost the power, and then Eloy comes in and just smashes it all while using those techniques.

(There's a video where they open up for AAL and Gartska hears Eloy play a groove and moves up to the stage to see wtf he is actually doing) Eloy's cover of Lady Gaga's Telephone. There's sooo much out there for you to see what Eloy is truly capable of. All y'all see and hear is "hrrr drrrr Joey!!!". As a drummer, it's miserable to know how little y'all metal drumming fans know about the instrument and the musicians who play them. Eloy is as good a metal drummer as the very best metal drummers that have ever sat on the throne. Joey was a great metal drummer. But not the best. Gartska is better. Duplantier is better. Lang is better. And Eloy is as good as any of them On a scale of proficiency/skill? Eloy is playing way below his abilities with Slipknot.

Jay's no prodigy lol. He's a serviceable at best drummer, and never belonged on SK's kit. The fact that you don't know Eloy is well known throughout the world, and has been winning pro world competitions since he was a child kind of renders your opinion moot. What really says something is that they fired Jay _as soon_ as they were out of their contract with Roadrunner. He's a terrible diva who pulls his daddy card as often as possible.

Joey edges it over eloy. He's as technically proficient but Joey's power, the swing he gets on his sticks is insane, there's no jazz tapping during quick parts. Secondly Joey's sense of composition is incredible, his parts are so interesting and being so much to the song. Listen to Slipknot without the drums and the guitar parts are actually pretty straightforward, it's Joey's drums that enrich the song.

The thing I've always loved about Joey's style was the almost unhinged, chaotic quality he had to his playing - especially live. It sounds like it could go off the rails at any moment but it never did. He was always in total control. Eloy has that same quality in spades but is a lot more precise. Jay is like the best of both worlds, really. I heard a lot of stuff about how he wasn't cutting it live and I just don't see it - the dude has always been a beast live. They traded one of the best drummers in the scene for probably the best drummer in the scene (which tells me their issues were likely interpersonal).

Joey is the true original, he wrote the songs, he has crazy speed, lots of power, and very dynamic, unique and creative ideas he implements into his drumming. His power and technique is unmatched by jay, and his internal metronome is incredible. Jay is a very good drummer, and deserved to be in slipknot, he’s crazy talented but all he does is focus on speed, brought up the tempo of songs live, made the band sound a little more rushed and sloppy, and it messed with Corey’s vocals,he plays too fast and not clean enough to back it up, while still having decent power. Minus points for tweaking songs on live sets to make them easier. Eloy is the only person fit to be in slipknot as of right now, other than say like el estepario, he could fit right in. But Eloy is a fucking BEAST!. he plays everything live at album tempo, sometimes just a little faster, and plays super fast just like Joey and jay, but unlike jay, he can keep speed way up high, control it perfectly, and hit WAAAAAYYY HARDER. He reaches ABOVE HIS HEAD FOR MOST OF HIS SNARE AND CYMBAL HITS. The dude’s crazy, he’s everything Joey was for the band, with the addition of his own slightly ethnic groove. He’s already honoring joeys parts and making them even more difficult live, and he has such good groove and control as a drummer. Eloy is the best guy for the job.

Joey is classic. He's raw af, powerful and just nasty in the best way possible. He was born to play drums for Slipknot. He has a rawness about him. He did write all those original parts after all. He was key in forging the Slipknot sound. Jay is a super solid drummer and can probably fill most anybody's shoes and kill it. He's super precise and comfortable playing even really extreme parts. Jay had a lot of energy, but in a live setting, his tempo was all over the map. Slipknot told Eloy (according to Eloy from an interview) that one of the most important things was to make sure that he would play their songs at the same tempo as the album. This leads me to believe that Slipknot was getting really tired of Jay rushing so much live. And, his performance of some of their harder songs such as Disasterpiece was really... sloppy. I grew to like Jay, but Eloy is so much better in every way. He plays cleaner, harder, and has even more energy but plays with crazy precision. People were claiming that Eloy was using a metronome live, which says a lot about his abilities.

Eloy is on a completely different level in terms of performing these songs and his timing is impeccable and every accent and ghost note is impossibly perfect as if he’s been playing this song for years. I struggle to see how impactful the drums to this song would be anything without Joey though. He was true genius and his performance looked and sounded flawless. The Disaster Pieces live album showcased how much of a phenomenonap drummer and performer he was. Eloy is definately worthy of filling those boots.
