Comparing the Victory Duchess and the Mesa Boogie Fillmore

Thanks for the great review. The Boogie overall sounds better to me both for its sparkling cleans and its own OD. The two channel set up would be great for me as I'm sort of a minimalist and try to avoid pedals. For my style a nice clean and a nice OD where I can work the vol on my guitar would be perfect. Although I'd be using this for practice with a real band and gigging, I do like to play at home a lot. I fear I may not be able to get good sounds out of the Filmore with "at home" levels. I was thinking about the Boogie Cali Blond series with it power attenuation but really dig the 2 channels on the Filmore. Any thoughts?

I've not tried the Boogie Cali, so I can't comment on the attenuation. I will say the Fillmore did fine with the attenuation on the Captor X - although its wattage made it a little difficult to get the right volume since the Captor has just three settings - full, half, and super low. But I agree that the two independent channels on the Fillmore are great - especially since they are, in essence, two amps in one box.

I am having a lot of trouble deciding between 4 amps right now - Fillmore 50, Cali Tweed 4:40, Victory V40 (probably would go deluxe) or Victory V30. I've had a chance to play a Fillmore 25 and I really liked it, but I want the extra headroom and 6L6s. I have never had a chance to play any of the Victory lineup as there are no dealers anywhere near me...I currently have a pair of Blackstar HT40s (a mark 1 and a mark 2) where I use the effects loop send on the Mark 2 to send to my Eventide H9 and Strymon Timeline, then I return to both the Mark 1 and Mark 2 to get stereo sounds. I'm basically just using the 2nd HT40 for the power amp section where I put in some Tung-Sol EL34s. My plan would be to continue this approach but use one of the 4 amps I mentioned as the primary amp and keep the Mark 2 for the 2nd stereo return. Thanks for this video on the Fillmore vs V40...I am going to check out a Fillmore 50 and Cali Tweed this weekend as there is a Mesa dealer near me, but I'm not sure if there's anyone within 100 miles of me that sells Victory, so it's been really hard to decide thus far.

I liked using my Victory Jack preamp pedal with the Filmore. Really added a lot of flexibility.

I found the Fillmore to be somewhat sterile. As for me reaching the sound you're looking for I use my Fender Super Sonic 22 thru 2x12 Jensen P12ns. I also have a Mesa but it's an Express 5/50 plus. That's the versatile amp. . But you certainly make those amps sound good

I'll start by saying that I've never tried the V30 amp. I definitely prefer the crunch/dirt from the Jack preamp to what the Filmore has. But the cleans on the Mesa are much better than using the Jack preamp. My concern with the V30 is that the two channels share the EQ section. One nice thing about the Jack preamp is that there is a bright switch that applies only to the crunch channel. Without that, I'd be concerned that it would be hard to get a good clean with some sparkle w/o having the crunch be too bright.
