Bought the XTool D8s (newer version of D8) corded, because it charges while connected to OBDII on each car, BT discharges, then you need to find an AC outlet to start charging, when we are broken on the highway, or on a farm or at the track, you will be in trouble... Also to run diagnostics on car lots, if you buy many used cars like we do...good luck, great devices...

A few seconds to me, at home does not matter, that said me and blue tooth never get along, I went corded D8 if I need speed, I need to buy snap on, and pay the price, or rather the shop does, after looking ,at many options for home use, cost is a factor, the thing about xtool, is 3 years updates for free, and $200 a year, this is a big deal, yearly update cost is something no one talks about, and some of these china made bi directional, scanners, have outrageous yearly update pricing. Harbor freight has one that’s $499 a year! And one year free, ummmm nope! Xtool seems ok in this regard, I hear, they also actually answer email, many do not. Just some things to consider for the home user.

I have used the D7 and it completes a full scan in less than 5 seconds on a 2015 Audi.

Thanks for the comparison. So, as of today the only difference is wired and BT? other than the time differences, that is? Have you tried to diagnose ac issues with these? Like pressure switches or compressor control valves?

Yes, I have, the data is all there and the active test and special functions work for the A/C systems.

From what I've seen, you can't do module programing with this tool, but it will do keys on some cars.

I have a question. I read that the BT has an obd to usb so you can wire it if you wanted to. If you do this would it be the same, faster or still slower than the non BT? That would be a video I’d like to see.

Does the D8 have the ability to Resync camshaft sensor for a 2007 Chevrolet Avalanche? Also, can you read individual voltage on traction battery cells for 2010 Lexus RX 450h?

Yes on the Avalanche cam sensor and probably on the Lexus battery cells but I am not 100 percent sure on that one.

Wait... you had the BT dongle on a aftermarket cable. Wont that combine the cord and the BT latency?

Probably not because being hooked directly to the car with an 8 ft cord is about the same as being connected directly to the OBDII connector. Besides whatever latency the cord added to the D8 it also added to the D8BT since both were connected at the same spot.

@@737mechanic Oh boy..I got some bad news on these. The D8 you can access the menu without hooking it to a car but can't do Bluetooth and can't be changed to do Bluetooth. The D8BT is Bluetooth but will not allow you to access the menu to learn it with out being connected to a car. So it's a learn as you go with the BT model one car at a time. You can not sit home and learn how to use this tool. Terrible misjudgment on the d8bt software.

I have not had a chance to look at the Launch x431 pro 3s+ but I believe the launch would be a more capable tool if you don't count the key programming abilities of the xtool.

Ok which one is faster, from time out to back in the box I ordered one of the D8 units first thing I noticed was the OBD plug adapter WHY should I need a adapter all cars come with the same OBD plug then after you plug in there is a bunch of questions that you need to answer , my throw away $ 26 unit just reads and gives me the codes then there is try to pack all the plugs , adapter , charger, and the unit into the case it came with what a POS

I always go with a corded scan tool as there is no Bluetooth delay or lag, and it will always be something with the Bluetooth version that will slow your work. Not worth the effort!!

I ended up getting the d8 wired. If the Bluetooth toggle on the db8t breaks then the whole device is toast.

The D8BT is Bluetooth which means it is wireless. You have a VCI which plugs into the OBDII port and it communicates with the scan tool wirelessly so you can walk around the car or take the scan tool to your toolbox or desk as you are troubleshooting.

Yes that is correct. I contacted xtool to check and they said it won't work because of hardware in side the units.

The only problem is it wouldn't activate the air suspension compressor on a 2012 Armada. They have an email that you can email them problems and they update the tool constantly to fix stuff so I would bet it will be fixed in the next couple of updates.

@@one_mega_ohm9139 It will NEVER be disabled. The only thing you need a connection for is to update the software which adds newer cars to the list and adds fixes and features. Once your updates expire and you choose not to buy another update then whatever list of cars you have on the machine at that time are the only cars you will be able to connect to. I take my machines to work all the time to help coworkers and we are in the parking lot which has NO wifi signal at all. Everything on the machine works fine. The only exception is some of the more advanced features on some European cars for programming modules need an internet connection but the standard module troubleshooting and stuff does not need any internet at all. In fact, my Autel has been expired now for 6 months and before I bought the last update it was 3 years expired.

@@737mechanic I have heard that if you NEVER have a wifi connection it will disable eventually. Pretty sure most newer tools are the same. They don't make this clear, but users have reported this. I'm not saying you can't use it without wifi or that you are forced to pay for update, but EVENTUALLY it will need to connect. I could be wrong but that's what I've heard. Have you have yours for 3 years?

It just looks like they took the "A30M" dongle and adapted it to the D8. The regular D8 has blue tooth built in. So I don't see why they couldn't sell it as an "add on". They are just choosing not to, I believe. The capabilities are already there.

I am slightly confused by this new release, I am the owner of a D8 and according to the company I purchased it from says that the A30 interface will connect to normal D8. So you get both options technically.... NICE. Now also according to my supplier states that the new D8BT has the wired connection SVGA plug disconnected .... so that been said how does it work with the Chip Programming that the D8 advertises as you need extra gear to plug in (KC100) etc.... interesting stuff 🤔
