@@Agoncor I'm not a hater because it's a social media app and I don't hate a social media app. I just don't use it. Come on. But I was on it for 30 minutes and after I put in Nova Scotia, hiking And dogs I was able to find without looking for it. A user who called but the genocide of millions of people. Because old people voted conservative in my home province and that means they all have to die. And when someone called them out there was misogyny, racism, homophobia and using language that's dehumanizing. And it's all from all the users who agreed with him in the comment section. So yeah of course it's not as bad as Twitter. Not much is. But it has a fraction of the users and I was able to find that in 30 minutes without looking for it. With putting in some pretty innocuous search terms. Oh and the one Creator I looked up was an archaeological guy. And that was it. So I could see it going down the same rabbit hole. Twitter did. Just the other side of the coin.

Interesting how a lot of the same people screeching about freedom and freedom of speech everyday don’t seem to like freedom of choice in a (somewhat) free market. If Musk is losing significant numbers of users to BlueSky then he needs to create a better product to compete with BlueSky. Consumers (as of today) are still allowed to have preferences, likes, dislikes, choice, and personal boundaries.

I agree. This is such a weird phenomenon overall. I have no doubt that everyone preaches somewhat the same things as well (I mean also all across the political spectrum). Sure, but you can’t deny that politics has played a HUGE role in Bluesky’s sudden rise. I can almost guarantee you that if politics weren’t a factor, or maybe even if the US elections had turned out differently, then we wouldn’t not be talking about it right now. Of course, you would’ve still been free to make that choice to switch, but you would be moving over to a much quieter space that wouldn’t have nearly the staying power or influence of a larger platform. And regardless of that fact, people have a right to be skeptical because these companies don’t have a great track record when it comes to maintaining fundamentally apolitical and non-predatory/damaging platforms for people to communicate.

I am not sure that I am convinced by the use your own domain as verification on Bluesky, I think the pre-musk version of verification was better but happy to be wrong on this. The growth starts off small then modestly until you get a moment where it starts to blow up. For Bluesky, it's has happenned in waves that seem to get a bigger each time, but there are growing pains especially when you're dealing with a team of 20 people or so. For now I'm enjoying the platform without a lot of noise or bots while it lasts.

KZbin better stop making bad changes to its platform and monetizing it but instead it should start releasing updates that people want, or it'll face the same fate as X

Currently enjoying Mastodon way more because it has a more robust feature-set and uses the more popular ActivityPub protocol which is a standard. There's also way more server/instance options which might seem daunting to some, but I find it pretty awesome since it's decentralized from the get-go. Not saying BlueSky is bad, but I think we're ignoring the elephant in the room. Pun intended 🐘

There is an over reliance on the shallow form of info passed along on Twitter. You are asking the wrong question. It isn't whether you should move to a different twitter like platform? It is whether you should ever use/ trust anything you see on those platforms to begin with? Because any and all info will be superficial and dumbed down because of the format. Twitter is only slightly deeper than bumper stickers. And if it fits on a bumper sticker it is simplified to the point of uselessness.

There’s a tonne of content. At least it seems that way to me. Maybe the difference is that the default feed is literally just people you follow. Nothing is “promoted“ into your feed. Go to the discovery feed and like and follow some people. Or go to the search field and search for things/people you are interested in. Google an explainer for BlueSky, I think that will help. Good luck. Oh, be warned. If you like to troll or pop into conversations with repetitive talking points, people will block you. Debate me bros get all upset about that, but think of it like a bar with interesting speakers and new people to talk to and it’s great.

13:04 Premium needs to add nothing to the central core or promise. meaning things your Tweats are not unnaturally push forward over others. That being validated doesn’t mean you paid for it, or that you are famous; it’s what it was originally there to be; that you are a real person, that uses the platform a lot and you weren’t paid by advertisers because you had ‘tick’ of any colour 16:11 16:11 16:11

Bluesky is still centralized. The open protocol just lets you pull your content out...to put where exactly? If you are really concerned about centralized control, Mastodon is where to go. What you actually want is an amazing free experience. There's no free lunch. Bluesky is still for profit and taking VC money. They will have to enshittify eventually. The answer is Mastodon, but that involves effort and maybe chucking a few dollars at the server operator from time to time and people aren't about that life 🙄

How easy is it to take everything elsewhere (which I wouldn’t just for the fact their not scared of a user doing this) and do they mean move to the likes of X and Strimgs ;) or would it mean taking to someone who offers something on the same open source framework? 5:14

I wish I could say I left Twitter because of Musk's "Free Speech" changes. But I left YEARS before because of the hollow virtue signalling culture and cancel culture elements. And the "meme" stuff, and people thinking they were utterly clever for repeating them over and over, was like the worst "Brave New World" parts of the Internet. But, every TV show and film I was a fan of had this horde of crusading "This X is not like the Y in the graphic novel! You deserve to die in poverty!" and "How DARE you make a sequel that I didn't feel the same way about as the last film!" or "I hate Actor/Crew member X because they are cringe!" type stupid posts getting tens of thousands of upvotes and drowning out all of the actual meaningful posts. If Bluesky ends up being that again, no thanks.

Not trying to start anything here, genuinely. Might be the reason you feel the atmosphere is calmer is because everyone largely agrees with you? I remember being on twitter in the Jack Dorsey days that you speak of, I didn't find it to be a particularly calm or welcoming place unless you had the correct beliefs. Figure the same thing is happening here, you're paradox of intollerance-ing yourselves into an echo-chamber, though that does seem to be what you want though. In the end conflict is just part of human interaction for some people and it isn't for others, it's probably for the best that there are spaces to respect that. Though I will say it's going to be hard to change culture without the discomfort of conflict, so good luck on that project.
