The space tube idea that takes a whopping 14 HOURS to transport people from earths orbit to earth? A cost that would bankrupt most Nations as well as earth. When even Jeff bazos blue origin flight took 10 MINUTES.😆 The latest telescope to replace hubble cost a Trillion dollars to develop.🙄 Could it even be possible, practical to build the damn tube thing and have it working properly in tandem with earth's gravitational forces ect?

I love the juxtaposition between it and the Invictus; from the perspective of the ship, it starts flying through dazzling space. But at 8:14 we see the perspective of those it left behind; it went "Poof".

@@kalaong its a really cool way to show the common trope where the ship transitions to an existance on higher dimensional space and moves within it from one point in the universe to another while from outside instead of zooming off into the distance like usually in sci fi it does not start moving anywhere in three dimensional space and just seemingly vanishes to a layer of the universe beyond perception

This is why people should always read the novel first. First and foremost The Galactic Empire in Isaac Asimov Foundation is not technological superior enough to make black holes or jump into 1. Even the Warhammer 40K Imperium of Mankind is more technological superior than Foundation's Galactic Empire. And 2 it's called a Jump Drive and the black hole and excretion disk thingy effects are just a by product of 3rd and 4th dimensions clashing in real space. 3rd Empires Jump Drive creates a sub-quantum tunnel in the 4th Dimension called Hyperspace (unlike Star Wars sub-dimension space in the 3rd Dimension also called Hyperspace). Foundation Galactic Empire is a stagnant and decadent Autocracy-Monarchy government is only a Class 1 Type Civilization in the Kardashev scale, why because i. Both Novel and Television The Galactic Empire is only capable of harnessing Nuclear Fusion Energy which is Inferior to both Star Trek Anti-Matter and Star Wars Hyper-Matter Energy.

@@nikkotan2840 I respect your comment on knowing the books and the lore. However, from a physics point of view, your comment on 3rd and 4th dimensions clashing in "real space" is meaningless. General relativity is 4-dimensioal physics on a manifold M(x,y,z,t). I'm not well versed in Issac Asimov's books, however, I thought he would take the science more realistically and venture into the more theoretical nature. Then again, it's science fiction. If what you're describing is some type of gravity drive, then that's far superior technology than a Type-I civilization which learns how to harness the power of a star. A star or stellar physics encompasses the strong nuclear force and the weak nuclear force. A gravity engine is beyond anything we know can exists. It delves into quantum gravity which is harnessing the power of a black hole which is far more advanced and esoteric physics. That would be the physics of worm holes, gravity drives, space folding... quantum entanglement. I understand why, in the TV series they're using a singularity to drive the engine because it makes sense in today's knowledge of physics. Should they actually kept strict to the story is an interesting point. Personally, it's OK to update certain segments of the story in terms of technology. But your point on society being stagnant is without question integral to the story.

Obviously u didn't read the novel and don't know how black holes works. The Galactic Empire only uses Nuclear Fusion for both Novel and TV and creating a singularity needs more energy than a Fusion could make, nevermind jumping into the densest energy in the universe the singularity.

I just realized that the reason the invictus is so large is it’s an early model of the jump ship and needed a huge jump drive to work, where as the newer ones have better jump drives that can be smaller inside the ship instead of having to be the entire ship…. Small details like that are what make this show so great.

A detail I like, is how the Imperial Warships, are basically the regular Jumpships, but with a weapons ring slapped onto them. It helps show how stagnant the empire is and how bloated, that they have far more space to hold onto than they have actual warships, so they have resorted to in effect, just slapping guns onto transports.

@@halohaalo2583 A faithful version of one of Asimov's novels would probably seem very misogynistic, nowadays, as he rarely, if ever, portrayed women as 3-dimensional, realistic characters. Almost without exception, his stories are male-centric, with mostly male characters, and in his later stories the men talked like university professors giving lectures, rather than real men having normal conversations. Even in his earlier stories, the characters often seemed to be very neurotic, with unrealistic behaviour that seemed to be forced to fit the plot, rather than following logically from the events which were driving the plot.

The show is fine, but has very little to do with Asimov other than names of people (Salvor Hardin, Cleon, Seldon, …), and places (Terminus, Trantor, some of the barbarian kingdoms), and some of the plot having some relation to psychohistory. But people do not resemble themselves, Demerzel’s twist is revealed pretty much straight away, and such. Demerzel’s gender doesn’t matter, but the weird reveal does. That said, it is a decent show, the CGI is well done, it has its own cool ideas (showing interesting crises stemming from completely different situations), some casting choices are great, and such. Recommending on its own grounds - comparing too much to Asimov’s work (and its themes of the types of power or how empires, not emperors, rise and fall) will bring dissastisfaction.

Photorealistic CGI (which is so easy to produce these days) can put more weight on the tv show than give it some extended value. Although all this looks really nice I still prefer to watch TNG (where they sparingly used models + CGI) for quick shots. In Foundation they have 3900 VFX shots in first 10 episodes alone. To achieve that they had to hire 19 additional VFX companies !!! That is insane. When majority of what you see are ship flyovers, indoor cgi environments or star dust with some fancy space stations after some time you fall in sleep and loose interest. Tv show to me should be like a visit to a theater with 99% interesting dialogs and 1% scene props.

@@alexanderzippel8809 The Foundation series consists of 7 books by Asimov, 3 books authorized by his estate (Foundation's Fear, Foundation and Chaos, Foundation's Triumph) and 1 book not authorized (Psychohistorical Crisis). Of the books written by Asimov, there are the main 3, the prequels and the sequels. The original trilogy is the best, but the prequels and sequels are the easiest to adapt; I have no idea why they didn't choose to focus the show on one of them. Foundation and the first half of Foundation and Empire are short stories dedicated to exploring an idea. It is Asimov at his best; the flaws don't detract from the story, the idea is interesting and communicated well and the story is relatively fair. The second half of Foundation and Empire and Second Foundation revolve around magic- er, psychic powers. This trend carries on into the sequels; I don't think they are any good in large part because of this. The prequels are an adventure story with Hari Seldon; they are decent, but Asimov's Robot detective stories (Cave's of Steel and sequels) are superior. If you like Asimov's work, they are worth reading, otherwise skip. The books authorized by Asimov's estate are written by established authors, but are reminiscent of fanfiction... so on par with the sequels.

Very few SF series or films have spacecraft that are a feasible design, and most wouldn't actually work as spacecraft. A spacecraft needs to have a lot of symmetry, to ensure that the thrust vector is always through the centre of mass, regardless of which thrusters or engines are firing. An asymmetric ship would go into a spin, or even a random tumble, because of the torque that the engines would produce about the centre of mass.

Doesn't matter. Distance isn't going to save you from that only a radiation shield. Which you might as well put around the source of that radiation. At that point it would not make any difference if you are close to the shield or at the other end of the sship. Those couple hundred meters at most aren't going to save you if there is a significant leakage. Besides without knowing the FTL drives exact mechanics who is to say there even is dangerous radiation? I mean they generate black holes but without time to "catch" radiation it isn't really dangerous in terms of radiation. And frankly if you can contain a black hole of all things you probably are not conerned about a few gamma rays.

6:33 You know, for the starship class which has kept a galaxy-spanning empire under control for literally centuries, the Aegis-class is a tad bit fragile. I mean, come on, how in the heck does the Empire's main warship lose control and crash because of a single flak shot hit to the lower part of the crescent? It didn't hit anywhere near the jump drive, or even the weapons ring, so why does the Aegis crash due to it?

Why does it do so exactly? Because it does not follow the story exactly? I don't think you understand what constitutes someones "vision". The show does an honest attempt at adapting Asimovs works. It shares a similar theme. That is hardly "puking on his vision". The show has a lot more "action" sure but that should be expected from a TV show that is supposed to have mass appeal. @@kirgan1000

Dated technologies while they ignored what Asimov had written.
@davidhazel5854
@davidhazel5854 Жыл бұрын
Asimov's technologies were always dated. All he ever did was take the technology that was current at the time of writing, and add something slightly futuristic. His original Foundation novels had 1940s technology with added hyperdrive, and Foundation's Edge had 1980s technology with hyperdrive and brain-interfaces. In contrast, this series shows everyday use of many different advanced technologies.

Black holes that's no black hole and fyi The Galactic Empire Imperial Fleet Starship almost all have no Energy Shields except for few capital warships like The Shining Destiny and Planetary Shielding of Trantor. The Empire stagnant and decadent civilization that has no technological progress in almost 30K standard years. In Kardashev Scale they are considered as Type 1 Class Civilization because both Novels and the Show The Empire is only capable of harnessing the power of a Star called Nuclear Fusion. In order to create a Singularity that needs to make a Black Hole or a stable Wormhole u need a more potent energy sources that Fusion Power is not capable of. Foundations Jump Drives work similarly to Star War by traversing into a sub-space called Hyperspace but the similarities end there, because Foundations Jump Drive works by traversing the sub-space of the 4th Dimension rather than the 3rd Dimension in Star Wars. In Episode 9 when The Invictus was forced to crash-land on Terminus while The Shining Destiny commanded by Bel Reose fired a beam that activated it's jump drive which caused Invictus to suck a bug chunk of the planet rather than consuming the planets outside-in like real Black Holes do. There's no Singularity, there's no Black Holes, what Cleon XVI said is utterly bullshit and a lie and to everyone who believes his words are a complete fool. Only Class 4, 5 and up Civilizations has the power to traverse Black Holes and make Stable Wormholes, if u don't believe me go watch Interstellar because its the most realistic as it can get or even better read the books. Even in Warhammer 40K Imperium of Mankind is more Technological Superior than Foundations Galactic Empire, because before the Dark Ages of Technology Mankind in Warhammer 40K have made ao much technological progress that would make Foundations and Dune Technology like a toddler.
