A highly entertaining and in some places quite revealing listen, such a relief to here some sane voices in this mad mad world. Thanks.

A very refreshing review of the year. Your assiduous critique of Howard was particularly well explored. It always disturbs me when public figures present themselves as being right on while platforming or waving through toxic ideas.

That interview with Jordan Peterson is definitely worth watching. It's disturbing.
@Lotan_3 ай бұрын
The slimy way he framed Peterson's addiction problem and subsequent reckless medical procedure as a sympathetic "struggle after the death of his wife" completely destroyed any respect I had for him. Disgusting behaviour.

Thanks for this video, entertaining and informative as always... been a welcome distraction for an hour while I'm slogging through a bout of covid! So that's really appreciated :) Can you just post a link to Claudia's channel / work? I appreciated her contribution - but I'm not sure if you gave any contextualising info, including her second name, so I have absolutely no idea who she is! Sorry if I just missed it in the brain-fog... Happy new year :)

I loved Fry for decades. The 'offence' thing set bells off and the self-pity nonsense, klaxons. He appears on a poster to do with finding lost kids and I wonder if those that choose him for that were aware.

Sorry, we're experimenting with ways to make the editing easier so that we can get content out quicker but we have terrible sound quality and we should have posted subtitles like we normally do
@ComplaintsonaPlate2 жыл бұрын
Sorry about that. We are thinking of doing some video and some only audio podcasts in future, so that we can release more frequent content. We will definitely add subtitles on them though
@BabelSongs2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the replies... Podcasts are also great, and you're right - it is a slightly different skill doing that, I guess - not just technical sound, but how you choose to speak and manage/introduce the topics. My recommendation is, imagine you are talking to your intelligent but slightly deaf auntie (i.e. basically me!)

I really like Monbiot's work on the environment, but ignore his other stuff. I think he should stick to that particular lane.
@clivewilliams48592 жыл бұрын
Forget the environmental work. It’s the other stuff you need to look at. You need to get the full picture
@Grandude772 жыл бұрын
He has a lot of good takes and I can't ignore his blare war criminal stuff but despite the human cost I think he needs to move on. The environment and the end of capitalism is all that matters. Those 2mil Iraqis would die anyway without a correction on the environment.

You mentioned Jo Lycett in glowing terms for his "extremely right-wing" prank, but according to this (about 3 mins in) he is "Good friends with Jess Phillips". Is it still okay to like someone if they are good friends with Jess Phillips? kzbin.info/www/bejne/g2iuh5KFnMyUrqc

Oh well. Maybe he can be on the list next time. Hanging out with Jess Philips is bound to induce a meltdown at some point.

I don't know anything about him not even how to pronouce his name. But that makes the centrist meltdown about him being on Laura K's show even more absurd.

It sounds like we can cautiously give JL the benefit of the doubt. Once he calls Corbyn an antisemite we'll know for sure. For my next trick I'll ruin Miriam Margolyes.

I disagree with your comments about Monbiot. There's the nuanced position of Chomsky and Achcar and then there is the apologist position of the Grayzone. Many leftists have latched onto the apologist position because they uncritically condemn the west without equally condemning other non-western injustices. Monbiot is criticising the apologist position that actually defends the actions of Russia. He's not criticising the nuanced position that acknowledges the role the west has had in escalating Russian aggression. And no, I am not a fan of Monbiot. As a vegan, I've called him out for being a fake vegan. He supports the extermination of deer for environmental reasons when he wouldn't spend a second of thought contemplating the same response to humans who are much more destructive to the environment. I judge each argument on its merits, not by who makes the argument or who the argument is directed at. Watch this important interview of Achcar. kzbin.info/www/bejne/ioekiKutgq90iM0
@jcoprario9672 жыл бұрын
not much difference between Achcar, Democracy Now and the BBC / other Western State state sponsored media on that issue. it's worth hearing contradictory viewpoints, which GZ does at least give you. GZ hosts expose the limitations / compromises of Democracy Now and other Western state controlled journalists. Monbiot has done some really pioneering and brave work on the Labour Files and Julian Assange though!
@AK-np4rp2 жыл бұрын
@@jcoprario967 That's the dogma I am talking about. You.use rhetoric like "western state controlled" and criticise their arguments based on where they are from rather than the merit of their arguments. Achcar is hardly western anyway - he's Lebanese and was born in Senegal. You clearly dont agree with what Achcar has to say. Why do you think only western imperialism is bad?
@jcoprario9672 жыл бұрын
@@AK-np4rp I don't?
@AK-np4rp2 жыл бұрын
@@jcoprario967 You didn't bother to watch the Achcar interview, did you? Instead you spout rubbish about Democracy Now being western state controlled. Yes, the BBC is western state controlled but to say that Democracy Now is state controlled is a joke, up there with the crazy conspiracy theories of the GZ. You wanna know the name of a state controlled media organisation? RT (Russia Today). Funnily enough, Max Blumenthal from the Gray Zone works for them. But we both know that you only take issue with western controlled media and imperialism.
@solimansoliman98062 жыл бұрын
@@AK-np4rp I can agree with your other points re some of the anti-imperialist lefts lack of engagement with "western state" media, but as far as the Lebanese being western or not goes, there are a lot of Lebanese who don't see themselves as Middle Eastern or Arab, and feel more affinity with Europe.
