In this NEW SERIES of Vlogs called Gay & Over 40, we talk manscaping. How have things changed since our 20's? We look at the difference between then and now!
Manscaping for gay men is ritualistic. It's a right of passage and a reflection of the time we are living in. A delicate balance of preference, trends and desire.
But things change, styles change and our bodies change. Let's talk about it!

Patrick I first watched your bathroom cruising video because I thought , this is ridiculous !, Started watching several others and you are SPOT on for 45 plus! Now I find your humor and ability to talk about any embarrassing subject with such ease is astounding! I never met anyone like you. Your X must be crazy to leave you! Your very nice looking but the fun and confident way you present yourself is utterly charming.

Patrick, love your varied and highly informational videos. I’m 54 but didn’t really come out until about the age of 35/36 and I began to realize how much the “closet” kept from view! I recall going to my local gay club in Beaumont, Texas, The Copa, now having been closed for several years and Covid-19 essentially ended other gay clubs as well. I was a total wallflower; but, not knowing anyone or protocol I barely spoke, the bartender was very kind and slowly made me feel at ease, introducing me to regulars and if I wanted, I could hang out at his bar and he’d introduce me to friends and other regulars as they came in (this man became a dear friend, a roommate and one of the best friends I’ve ever made). Well, I learned a lot, fumbled through some of the finer points most gay men don’t often discuss openly and here you are discussing them! You’d have been a godsend back then. The thing that saved me was that I never feared asking questions, no matter how embarrassing or basic, which made me realize how much a guy had to learn. I’m still not sure which animal I’m supposed to be! Thanks for talking about things so openly, comparing from your 20’s to your 40’s (I hope some of the 20 somethings watch and realize they won’t be young forever and the things they tease, or outright are ugly about, will be part of their lives one day). Keep these great nuggets of knowledge videos flowing!

Just came across your blog. OMG 😳. I’m a fan ,so funny and so right. I’m over 50 now, I’ve stopped manscaping 👇 down there because the belly got in the way. No matter what position I get myself into it’s so funny and terrible at the same time. I huff and puff , when that starts I give up . It’s sucks to get old. Yesterday I was 18 today I’m in my early 50’s what the heck happened?

20s vs 40s vs 60s. Nobody shaved anything in their 20s. Most of us (my friends and I) didn't shave much in our 40's. I asked my bf at the time to shave my hole and he was grossed out. I was thinking how good a tongue would feel on my shaved hole. So I did it myself and a few days later I regretted my choice as it grew back in. No one much cares in their 60s. A few shave their balls which I like either way and it does feel good when you are shaved they are so sensative BUT my ball hairs don't grow smooth out of my balks so if I shave them they bleed profusely. It's just easier and safer to not shave them for me.

Dear Patrick, great video; and to answer your questions on hair/aging. Why it is so shocking to see nature 'messing with our hair' is up to a few factors/ #1- Much as we ignore this fact- , we are Mammals which will means HAIR. It is one of the 3 things that makes us mammals; #2- placental birth, #3- Lactation feeding of our young, and more hair. Thus the genetic roulette wheel now takes hold. #4- All of us, except for a population of humans still living- for 10's of thousands of years in indigenous south Africa, have Neandertal DNA coursing through our genome; which means more hair. It is a very small percentage, but it is there. If your ancestors came from Italy, Sicilia isle area, then you and your ancestors have a few percent more than all other humans. Neandertals were a very hairy bunch, but our human DNA is based on us as homo-sapiens originating from a hot savanna climate where hair grew on our heads as protection from the sun....and little growing anywhere else. #5- Now we combine all those genes through SEX. That's right; you got it. #6- Our species has traveled for 100's of thousands plus- years; settling in very different environments. Thus differentiations developed- slowly for each group. #7- The farther north that you lived, the lighter your skin, and the shorter the height, the more hair to protect you, and the ability to store fat to hold you over the ice age were traits for better survival for us. Now, because of modern air travel, easy migration, and better technology against the cold, we are slowly 'homogenizing' (love that word). Our genes have not quite caught up with our tech and current fashion trends. #8- All of this is because of genetic mutation. All of us are subtle mutants of the human species. Traits are passed on through successive generations with mutations being a key factor for survival of genetic information- like excessive hair for members of a given ancestor line. With most dogs, white hairs become numerous on their face to show age. We get White hair, thinning hair in some places, and a lot more in others. We are Apes; plain and simple. To see how our closest 'relatives' look when they age, we look to the Bonobo Chimpanzee. Notice how much hair they have....at one time, that was us. Talk about conditioner! The next time you saunter through a bath house hallway, and see the half lit shadow of a hairy 'beast' of a man, muscles flexing, a solid brow, thick hair brimming from his chiseled pecs, cascading down those strong arms, and practically dripping from his manly knuckles, bulging crotch straining under the bondage of a white towel which barely covers the sexy runners legs underneath, just remember- "Bears" are gentlemen in the streets, and savage animals between the sheets! Hair=Good!...Sexy freaky, tire you out and destroy your ass good! Hugs and best wishes. P.S. Sorry for all the 'Gay-'splaining'.

Once I hit 50 I couldn't have cared less. I'm a very hairy man and it's what I have to work with, and it works. My goatee is gray/silver and my hair is still the same color it's always been, with more silver in it, but still largely in tact. Back hair, ear hair, nose hair........everywhere! I'm single and I don't feel like managing it all for someone else's approval. I'm the trifecta of every gay man's nightmare: A little overweight, very hairy, & single. Toss in the bite guard and CPAP and I'm sex on a stick!

Great video! It is so nice to have you talk about men’s issues when over forty. It feels like gay men over 40 are treated by other gay men like they don’t exist, especially where sex is concerned. I have ALL of the same issues as you (hair coming out of everywhere). I shave my chest, abs, back, and as of 6 months ago, all of my pubic hair. Also my ears nose etc. I get those long stray eyebrow hairs and some white eyebrow hair. I cut those off and the white hair to the root. It all gets worse the older I get. Also trim my the hair in my arm pit. I really like your style. You have a nice voice and you openly talk about things that most men are embarrassed to talk about. I have just subscribed and I am eagerly looking forward to seeing more. I wish you were a friend. You seem like someone that would be fun to be around. 😄😉⚡️🌈🤸🏼‍♀️👍🚀

Hey Patrick. Loved the video and yes I totally relate to mutant hairs! 🙄🤦🏻‍♂️. FYI, I was reading a few articles online that explain the ‘mystery’! As your cells replicate and continue to copy themselves as you get older, they sometimes accidentally mutate and forget if they are skin cells or hair cells. I suppose some of them just think ‘ahhhhh fuck it, I wanna be a hair cell now’!! 😋🤷🏻‍♂️. It’s a little bit more scientific than that that’s the basic idea 🙂. Thanks fir all the great vids (all the way from Australia 👏🏻🇦🇺🦘)

It's like we go through a second puberty with all these weird hairs popping up in places we never even thought about LOL. Honestly though, time and age will temper one's vanity. There are more important things in life to worry about a rogue ear hair and you learn that after 40. Men who are in decent to excellent physical shape look even more masculine and sexy with hair on their body. It surprises me how many men trim and shave excessively only to find that many other men love that fur. Embrace that salt and pepper hair color guys -- it is sexy as hell and there are plenty of young bucks that LOVE it. Whatever your preference, a sexy mature man hairy or smooth, is beautiful.

Now I have to trim back hair (what, yes back hair. I never had back hair), shoulder hair, ear hair in and out, nose hair in and out...etc. Constantly trimming eyebrows. Literally everything you said is so on point. And yes, balls have been shaven like forever. Even with guys I get with can't have hairy balls and I like my men even older than me, so it's even worse.

So another change as someone who is *well* over 40: In my 20s every morning before I'd shower I'd go on "zit patrol". In other words, has anything new come in overnight that needed attention. Now, like you said, it's HAIR PATROL. Check the nose, check the ears, trim the eyebrows. I'm glad the zits went away but this hair nonsense is nuts. Speaking of, I've nearly given up on manscaping. Being married for 25 years, I'm just not worried about it. I do still trim about every 3 months just for comfort because if left to it's own devices it get CRAZY long. But yeah, no more nights squatting over a mirror for me.

😲 indeed! all the hair. I'd say it is more frustrating being bald. hair doesn't grow on top of my head (where I'd like it to be) but all these rogue hairs growing all over the place. Around 45 my boyfriend wanted me to have a beard but I didn't like the gray. being in the hair and styling biz, he brought home some dye. it turns out that I have a bad reaction to some dye being on my face-very red and sore. so no more die-but mascara did an okay job of covering up the gray but can be problematic leaving black smudges

Over 40= more hair everywhere! I swear I see hair coming in places I hardly had any. Def seem like more work to manscape now. Even little things like a simple underwear now has to be comfortable…I went from tighty whities, bikini going down the my crack, regular brief, boxer briefs to now and depending on what day it is, don’t even want to wear any! It’s all about comfort now in my 40s.

I’ve never waxed but trim because I’m not hairy. Im a black man and we get them too, probably not as hairy compared to other guys but I def see more coming in. I remember my roommate back in the day tho, he had salt and pepper hair on head, brown hair on legs and auburn red pubes he used to say he’s a mutt :) fortunately I’m getting more bushy down south that I just trim to keep it looking clean looking. I use to shave 🪒 but I can’t handle the itching when it grows back so I trim and only shave balls bc I like the feeling of smoothness there.

I can totally relate, I was a "dancer", in the late 90's. Not a, by the airport dancer, but close enough. I would never have that kind of energy to put into hair removal. So this year I set out on a "Bosidin" adventure. There was not much else to do, on the weekends. As long as your hair is dark, and your skin is light, it works great. IPL works fantastically. I would say since January, I am 85% less hairy, where I intend to be. I think it will take me a year, but it will all be gone. What little hair that has grown back, is almost invisible. I think I paid about 450. for it. So when people ask me what I did during covid. I probably will not tell them, but I will always remember this was the year, I cleared the garden. Thanks for sharing! @@PatrickMarano That would be great to see. I researched devices, and there were very few male reviews. We need to know these things. Sadly, I was down to the twice a year clip down. I was disturbed, by the amount of hair I removed. I am not even very hairy. I obviously left an appropriate amount of hair, but I actually did my armpits first. I thought that would be a good test. When I did the first shave, which I never have done. I thought, this will probably be an ingrown situation. Not a single one. Fast forward, I probably have 5 armpit hairs, total. The same with extreme nether regions. How did we not know this? Thanks for keeping it real!

I have discovered one hair appear from nowhere in that middle gap between my eyebrows. Also the rogue hairs on the edge of my ears. Don’t even get me started on the grey and white pubic hairs. Also why when I shave my moustache area is it tougher hair to shave nowadays leaving me with very dry skin in that area although I still can’t grow a proper beard. Toenails are now a bugger to cut, can barely reach them. I’m still hairless on the chest. Thankful for a full head of hair though. Have now subscribed as your videos speak to me as a gay man in my 40s here in the UK 🙂🌈

Hi Patrick. LOL loved this vid. 54 and as far as you are talking I see myself. Been asking myself that same questions for years. granted I am naturally hairy but hate the hair in the ears, on top of the ears and he Lobes. and to top it all in spite of being hairy i'm bold as well so if the hair gets long I have the bold spot on top of my head with hair standing in all directions in a permanent bedhead manner doesnt matter what I do. luckily i have a hairdresser that i go to once a month cutting down to a nr 2 comb on the clipper and all the other hairy problems gets taken care of as well. loved telling of hair problems well done.

What you are describing about the hair in your 40's is exactly what I experienced back 20 some-odd years ago when I was in my 40's... exactly... especially on the bridge of my nose... I call them "the witch hair" when they sprout out. You know, the caricature of the cartoon witch with the hook nose and the lone hair sprouting out the middle of the bridge of her nose, and the hair always pointed forward and down... also the ear hair... and the bushel of hair on the very inside of the upper nostrils... I swear... LOL... just wait until you hit your 60's... then there's the Wilford Brimley eyebrows that grow out of control, and the Leonid Breshnev unibrow... honestly...

Between the Muppet eyebrows that need mowing twice a month, to those terrifying earhairs that are hard as hell to pull out! But now it's mostly white hair so it's even easier to see. Try Manscaping in your late 60's. I was aux naturale until about 10+ years ago. Then the trees started growing out of my ears and nostrils. Eeuu! Now I shave the shaft and sack (some people have the audacity to complain about hairs between their teeth). When I was young, hairs were just expected and spit out. I also have to shave parts of my chest and stomach so I'm bi-symmetrical again. And where/when did those 3" long hairs down the middle of my lower spine come from? Shaving there, where you can't see, is whole other story. I just found your channel a week ago and I'm really enjoying it. Thanks for your truthful style. BTW, I'm surprised you are in your 40's. the Captain

Hey Michael, the nice thing about being over 40 is you stop caring what other people think. for example, instead of spending an hour in front of the mirror trying to look a certain way before I shoot a video, I freshen up and look like me. If I look like I just rolled outta bed, well... then that's how I must look. And I'm cool with that. I'm not perfect cuz perfect doesn't exist. I'm me, and this is how I look and these are my experiences, and I'm happy for whoever to "see" me this way. I'm glad you commented, thanks! keep in touch!

I've had outer ear hair since I was in my late teens. It expresses my inner lycanthrope which I ruthlessly shave off. I remember the early 1980's as a time when body hair was everywhere, hair was blow dried and soft and manscaping didn't exist. I miss those days. It was also before HIV and the sex was before rubbers were a thing. I was a bit of an outlier and kept my hair however I wanted it. I grew a beard out in the early 80's because I hated shaving from three to five times a day. I still had to shave by throat but the rest of my beard? No. I kept, and still keep, it trimmed to whatever length I want it depending on the season. I knew it was out of fashion but when guys asked my why I had a beard I would tell them and that got be more sex because I was blessed with too much testosterone. My head is now shaved.
