Most Tecumseh blows a hole behind the starter and do so from over-revving. The throttle stay stuck wide open and BOOM she goes. Keep the throttle linkage (between the carb and that red button) squeeky clean and well lubricated. I think it is assembled with rivets.

This is the greatest video. It is a pity that Dony did not write it down 6-7 years ago. At that time I repaired my craftsman. With the help of the video from Dony I replaced the camshaft. And with this video, dismantling any engine on the snow blower is just a holiday. Learn from MASTER! Thank you very much.

I have a Murray Blizzard 27" 8HP dual stage snowblower with a Tecumseh engine. Looks almost identical to that engine. I bought it new over 11 years ago, runs like a dream! If the engine ever dies, I'll try and find a new engine for it. Now, thanks to the small engine guru, I know how to replace it!

Great video Don. Would love to see you do a re-engine video of something like a Tecumseh to a Harbor Freight Predator. There's a bunch of them on KZbin, but none of them have the attention to detail that you put into your videos.

I'd like to second that motion, Even if it is a year later.... I just did a full rebuild of a Tecumseh Snow King, but it took quite a while to secure all the parts.... Its a shame because the Snow King is a great engine, and the blowers they were installed on are normally built well, with lots of life left in them. The problem is finding the proper replacement engine that will be just drop in and go... Would love to see a video on re-powering a Tecumseh snow king powered blower with a good quality & readily available engine.
@fredbentley49444 жыл бұрын
I could be wrong but it seems that Tecumseh engines have more torque for comparable size engines. I've had a couple Ariens snowblowers that had Tecumseh engines. They seemed to have more power!
@stevehoch95283 жыл бұрын
@@taftr I don't know. I have a twenty year old craftsman snowblower with a 9hp tecumseh. If it has a hundred hours on it I would be surprised. The rest of the machine still works well but has surface rust on it. The bucket is bent in on both sides even though I straighten it out every year. I did replace the carburetor this year with an aftermarket one because it was leaking gas just sitting there. My point is that the last thing I expect to go wrong is the engine, it's better than the rest of the machine.

I stopped using white lithium grease on snowblower friction disk hex shafts. That stuff was hard like a crayon like substance on all 3 of my blowers when I pulled them out for the season this past winter. I had to pain stakingly clean that off and use a small pick to get it out from between the carrier and hex shaft, my shifter would not budge prior. I use a softer grease now, that stuff gets sticky and hard down here in the states in the summer months.

wow that did look pretty darn easy Don ! Having a good replacement unit made that swap out a breeze :) Side note , I did my 42 ariens deck rebuild yesterday. I could not find a "how to video" anywhere, so I went for it . Ugh the one tip I now know that you would have laughed at me and said " well of course , do that first Bill". "Remove the spindle pulley nut " !!!! "Because Bill if you don't and you snap off the 4 spindle bolts , you have nothing to hold the spindle from rotating "!!!!!! Doing it all single handed was frustrating , it would not have made for a good video , ok a how not to do it video , ha ha !! So I mounted 2 - 2*4's to a wooden table , just wider than the mower blade. Lifted the deck over and placed the free spinning spindle in the home made wooden slot and with a breaker bar , it worked. whew. Did the smarter method on the second spindle , went on and off easy . Changed out the 2 old pulleys with bearings ( much smother spinning than the old ones) . New belt. Pumped in some grease to the new spindles and went off to mow meadows for 4 hours. The spindle mistake added lots of time and frustration , drats. That is why I really enjoy the time you take to make and share your knowledge from your shop life . I always learn something new from you . thank you Don. 2 questions, the 4 each new spindle bolts where 3 line on top . Should I go buy 4 or 5 line bolts now and swap them out ? This might prevent the break off situation in the future? 2nd should I grind off the small length of spindle bolt threads sticking past the bottom of the spindle plate ? Would cutting them flush make removing them easier if spindle service is needed in the future? thank you , Bill "deck smarter now" ha ha

If more people changed and checked the oil on a regular basis, an engine swap would not be needed! Just wondering if I need a new engine for my Cub Cadet 524SWE that does not run. When I spin the engine with a drill & socket it used to spin freely (but would not start) now it spin freely at first then the engine locks up with a tight spot and turns the drill out of my arm.
