this is so funny. I just picked this up about a week ago. so random for me too, i normally try not to pick something up plant wise without me previously eyeing it, but it was just so cool to me! and a philodendron? hooray!

Just ordered mine (in starter form), should be here this coming week. I'm really excited to try a plant that looks nothing like my others. I got wind of it from you and your channel. Thank you for this, it was helpful

My stays in full sun almost whole day, and no sun burns. I think it is quite resistant as most of Thaumatophyllums, they can adapt.
@BotanicalBrunette Жыл бұрын
Oh yeah?! Mine definitely wasn’t ready for that kind of sun 🤦🏻♀️ but I agree - most plants can be adapted to more light 👏😊

How cool ! I was in PA in July visiting my sister. She lives in Amish country so we went to their greenhouses and I got this plant was in 5” pot had 4 small leaves paid $5.00🍃 I put it in west window it literally did nothing until a month ago! It looks exactly like yours same size and I love this funky plant!!! I agree not easiest to prop, I do see some very large green roots, almost look like orchid roots! I too can not wait to get full circles! I do not think it’s still a philo I think maybe reclassified but I could be wrong! If ya see on grab it and watch it grow crazy 😮🪴🪴❤it has been reclassified it’s a Thaumatophyllum spruceanum ❤

Just got 2 huge Goeldii, which leaves are already ringing.....50% off sale, on line for $5.00 each. This was a great help to me. Question? They came in 6" pots with roots hanging over. Should I follow the same rule of thumb, of upsizing just one pot size? By the way, great nails!!!
@BotanicalBrunette Жыл бұрын
Aw congrats on your new plant! These are some of my favorites! If your plant is growing over the pot I’d suggest doing the one pot size up. Thanks for the reminder too, because mines doing the same right now 🤭

I bought one 2 month ago, came with a new leaf since I brought it home the leaf is still light green and hasn’t mature. Plant looks healthy, but consider about it still it looks stagnant and the tip are browning on the new leaf only any tips ?
@BotanicalBrunette Жыл бұрын
Hey! So browning on the tips generally means it’s too dry or it was kept too dry for too long at some point. When the top 2-3” of soil are dry try giving it a good watering with fertilizer.

Do you need to stake it when it gets larger.

I picked one up in the reduced section at my local garden centre, it had one yellowing leaf so I was hoping to revive it, but since I've brought it home the leaves are turning brown 😢

Oh no! Have you tried repotting it? Maybe it root rotted 🫣

Saw another way to get the new leaf unstuck. You get a warm wet paper towel and wrap it around the stick leaf and hold it there for a couple minutes and unwrap. It should be loosening up. You can rewear for a second day

Oh yeah! Such a neat trick. It works well on birds of paradise

Philodendron goeldii is actually not a philodendron. It's a thaumatophyllum spruceanum. It's still commonly called a philodendron. I'm not correcting you or anything, I'm just adding info because I think it's cool. I have one, and a thaumatophyllum stenolobum. I also really love this plant and I'm glad that it's getting some real love. Locally there's literally carts of them at my local plant chain (small chain, not big box) and I paid $15 for mine. I actually had one before that I got for $7 but postpartum depression left me with many casualties that year. My experience is that it'll dry out just fine no worries as long as you don't let it stay dry too long. It's a really fucking hardy plant. With propagation: it's pretty standard. Treat it like a self heading philodendron - BUT the more mature the harder to keep the top cut alive. It grows like a thaumatophyllum bipinnatifidum (very very very common plant look it up) and you can find a bunch of videos of people mass propagating them.
