What I want in the next updates: - TRUE DARK MODE | darker sheets of paper that aren't dark grey and that are pure black, and that can match the system settings to change the interface and pages from light to dark (from sunrise to sunset) and to convert the text color automatically from black to white and vice versa - Smart Colour Palette per notebook for pens and highlighters - Lecture recording feature similar to Notability - Better handwriting to text conversion | save the previous version in case we want to go back - IMPROVE THE TEXT TOOL | add bullet and numbered lists, check lists and fix all - UPDATE AND FIX THE BUGS OF THE MAC APP | It's absolutely unbearable, especially the text tool; I want to be able to type my notes on my laptop and annotate them later after class and I simply cannot use Goodnotes for that because the Mac App has a supper buggy and primitive text tool!

I just discovered that I can use my Bluetooth PageFlip with both GoodNotes and notability. I just have to set the pageflip to the page up/down mode, pair it with the iPad and it just works. This makes these note taking apps awesome for music practice and performance! One potential big limitation is that he Bluetooth PageFlip device acts as a Bluetooth keyboard and disables the on-screen keyboard. Apple Pencil still works.

IMPORTANT TIP: You dont need Notability to record Audio while writing in lectures and others. Just take Apple Audio recording app and start a recording. This also works while having the app minimized. And you dont get 20 minute parts like you do with Notability.

You don't need it, but it is much more convenient that the setup you just described. Especially if you want to record everything you do. Notability's recording is continuous, though it is catalogued in 20-min pieces. You won't even notice the difference with a continuous recording.

Hi there I love you videos and keep up the good work. I have a question that maybe you could help me with. Microsoft documents such as word and PowerPoint aren’t imported to scale making it hard to read and edit. Sometimes it’s so off that the document page gets cut off or the full paragraphs won’t be on the same page. Even the font size changes significantly where in the word document it was just changed from 11-12. Notability however doesn't have this issue. The documents are all to scale and the font size doesn't get altered. Is there a way to go about this issue? Thank you so much:)

The *TEXT TOOL* should be on point, this is unacceptable. It is incredible that they were able to mess up such a basic tool for most people. 😤 Here it is what's wrong with it (from most to least frustrating): - The *FORMATTING MENU* is super buggy, especially on the MacOS version: it selects and auto deselects your text depending on if it the format option you want requires individual selection of specific words or just the text box pressed for a specific, which makes it impossible to apply different formatting options in the format bar consequently since the menu is always disappearing or the buttons stop working. To improve this, simply make the action of selecting the text box default for all tools to be used and applied instead of having to make a specific selection every time for some of them, so that all changes are applied to the entire text box. This is especially helpful because normally we format headings and and subheadings the most, and they are normally in an individual text box by themselves, so having to select one or two words to be able to format just takes more time for no reason. Then make the manual individual selection letters of the text not default, so that the formatting only affects specific words WHEN the user purposely selects them individually. This would improve efficiency, frustration and multiple clicks. - *Bullet and numbered LISTS* are missing. Implement them smartly by adding the option and automatically adjusting the bullet lists and numbered lists sublists icons with indenting like Apple Notes does. For example, the bullet point icon for subpoints when indenting becomes a "o", the subpoints of those become a small square, the subpoints of those a dash "-", the following ones an arrow and so on. The same would happen in numbered list indentation (1., then i. or A., then a)). The icons for the lists should be inspired in MS Word and should be adjusted in settings. - On the iOS app we should be allowed to have *TEXT PRESETS*, instead of just one default configuration. That could be implement like Notability did, by incorporating them right above the keyboard. In summary, they should get inspired in tools that exist in MS PowerPoint or MS Word when dealing with text boxes, because text boxes are what is used in GoodNotes as well! Also, please check out this flaws I am pointing out in the MacOS application.

Does goodnotes drain the battery too fast? Currently I’m using cola notes which is great but drains my battery fast and makes the device warm so I’m considering getting goodnotes, what do you think? And do you notice this problem in Cola notes or it is just mine?

None of us have used CollaNote for such an extended time to notice that. But, we haven’t heard many complaints about that in GoodNotes. And if there was an issue, GoodNotes fixes bugs better than CollaNote does. The switch might be good for you

Thanks for your review and comparison video. I loved it. I have a technical question regarding importation of pdfs into these apps. Hope you may be able to answer. I want to (have to) switch between Windows 10 and IPad back and forth for annotating and then using the annotated pdf documents (normally a scanned text documents, to which I add highlights and comments on IPad). I am currently using Goodnotes 5. One thing I noticed with Goodnotes 5 is that I can export "editable pdfs", so that my annotations and highlights remain editable (e.g. deletable) on my PC (with Adobe Acrobat). Acrobat seems to be able to import and export "editable" pdfs, so that I can edit my IPad annotations on PC. Now, if I *import* into Goodnotes 5, the pdf seems to be "flattened", so that the annotations are no longer editable. They become part of the "background" image. This could be a showstopper for me and my paperless workflow, because the final processing/use of the pdf is on my office PC. Here is my question: does *Notability* also "flatten" editable pdfs upon import (as Goodnotes 5 does), or does it leave the annotations editable after import? Second question: is it perhaps possible to import editable pdfs in *Goodnote 5* (as "editable pdfs"), but I only did not figure out how? Thanks!

Both Notability and GoodNotes flatten PDFs on importing. If you’re using Adobe Acrobat, why don’t you use it on both devices instead? For your workflow, you need to use Acrobat and sync via creative cloud so you can access your documents on your PC and on the iPad.

You can use a different color, like there is a chart with all the colors, plus lights and dark versions. You can also switch the chart for a circle with every color possible.

The auto advance feature with the zoom tool will jump a few lines! It is not very convenient to manually move my sentence to where I need it to be. This should be automatic. The auto advance feature is currently turned on. I used this feature last night and I ended up with a bunch of gaps. Notability does this a lot better. I don’t have to think about anything except just write. Notability does the work for me.

I’ve been using Notability for years but I’ve started to reach the limit of its functionality. I’ve just started to shift to Goodnotes. It’s so much more functional. I don’t use the voice recorder function which is the main point of difference. Being able to manage the pages, templates and folder organisation makes GN much more functional for me. I’m sick of waiting for Notability to introduce landscape mode.

I have an iPad Air 2 and a passive stylus. The zoom box feature isn't an optional extra for me; it's the only way I can write at all neatly or comfortably. The zoom window (where I write) in Noteshelf is way bigger than I want and cannot be resized. In Goodnotes you need two steps to resize it, which I'm not thrilled about, but at least you can resize it at all. There are some things I do like about the Noteshelf zoom box, but being two inches tall is enough of a dealbreaker that it doesn't really matter, I'm never going to use those nice features. Also, a few weeks back I was grading exams. I grade more consistently if I can grade Problem 1 for everyone, then Problem 2 for everyone, and so on. So I needed to switch documents about four hundred times in a few days. (Not an exaggeration--fifty-four students times nine problems.) Goodnotes has file tabs, which makes it really easy to switch documents, and it allows me to have all fifty-four tabs available at once. Noteshelf doesn't have file tabs at all, so I didn't want to grade in Noteshelf.

What I wishj for, is a way to keep the page steady, because as you write on it, sometimes it sways to the left or right and this is very unnerving. The shapes (straight lines, etc) are worst than Notability. I find this the worst feature. Takes too much button pushing to do the same things. I like the crop feature (images). You can crop in any direction (freehand). This is especially useful for some messy images. for example music scores. It has saved me! (this doesn't exist in Notability)

Unfortunately, you didn't cover the scan function, which is just horrible, for it puts a scan or imported scan on a white template. Thus, a white rim is always visible shrinking the actual size of the document.

The last time i checked it there wasn't anything outstanding about the scan. I forgot to check it out again when I was making this video... will probably talk about it when reviewing an update or something like that.
