I feel like you're either 100% correct on Leyline of Resonance and it'll be irrelevant for its entire stay in Standard, OR it'll be banned for the same reasons Aetherworks Marvel was

Leyline is such an unfun card. Its probably dogshit in a competitive sense, but the "mull to 5 to find my relatively easy combo, kill in 20 seconds, else concede" loop is pretty much the fastest way to farm daily wins in arena. Mull mull gear concede play play mull land mouse land kill, no need to actually play the game, or let anyone play for that matter.

This is exactly the thing many people regularly forget. A deck with 55% winrate and 2 minutes average duration climbs the ladder at the same pace of a deck with 60% winrate and 4 minutes average duration. And that assumes the leyline reduces winrate, which I don't necessairily agree with. In fact, I'm surprised by the amount of people who still believe that mulliganing to 5 or 4 loses you the match. It really depends on the archetype. That said, I fully agree the card is badly designed. Usually Leylines are a way to solve a problem on turn 0, not to enable a proactive strategy on turn 0. There have been some cases like the green leyline in the past, but those were the exception. This time all leylines are proactive except for the black one, which is a reprint.

wizards need to realize leylines are just a bad design that lead to poor play patterns, only case where i really think it's understandable is leyline of the void in legacy/vintage where you need it turn 0. creates a lot of non-games on both sides of the card where you either high roll and get the leyline and an otherwise playable hand and pop off or have 4 dead draws in your deck

​@@brakalanga7667 We think of Leylines as sideboard hate cards, but that's because the only two playable ones were. Of the older Leylines, Lightning, Anticipation, Combustion, Abundance, Vitality and Of the Meek are proactive, while Of the Void, Lifeforce, Punishment and Sanctity are reactive. That's a pretty close split that leans slightly proactive. (Leyline of Singularity is hard to classify (I guess it technically hates on mass tokens and redundant aggro draws?) but I've only ever seen it discussed as a janky combo piece, so I'd call that proactive too.)

Making my guesses before the vid: Best in Show: Pyroclasm. Brotherhood's End is being played just to be the red temporary lockdown when you need it. This resolves most of those issues 1 turn faster. Sleeper: Fear of Missing out. Good early body with card filtering. The fact it can help double-strike the finishing card later on is the icing that pushes it over. Trap: Leyline of Resonance. Unfortunately the thumbnail spoiled it, and Jim's hate of Leylines means the isn't getting best in show. This card makes B01 worse; it doesn't affect B03. Bombin' Common: Ticket Booth/Tunnel of Hate. Though slow, manifest dread is good, and it has a backside way to close out the game. Rooms are going to be a part of the format, so there should be plenty of ways to use this.

Trap or not, Leyline of Resonance is going to see a lot of play on BO1 Arena. It doesn't matter if someone crunches the numbers and "actually it turns out that Leyline red has a lower winrate". The thrill of the T2 kill is too tempting. Similar to Blazing Shoal or Tibalt's Trickery, win rate has nothing to do with it.

It makes their turn 2 so much better and I know sure TECHNICALLY it's one less card in your hand, but the fact that it doubles your instant in sorceries is pretty much card draw since if you draw a monstrous rage it's drawing 2 pretty much if you have a target

Piggy Bank is a good catch for sleeper card. Mono-red 3/2 artifact creature with upside for 2cmc seems very good. Bloodtithe Harvester is a good comparison and very playable.

Agree with most things, but I think the red Overlord is really bad in constructed (4 mana for the impend is too much and inferno titan is unplayable by today standards) and you possibly underrated the FOMO card. Fear of Missing Out is insane as a 2/3 for only 2 mana that enables your biggest creature to hit twice in a turn. I feel like delirium should be relatively easy to pull off in mono-r given the new artifact and enchantment creatures. And on the leyline comment, as a fellow unlucky player that gets stuck drawing leylines/never has them in the opening hand, I understand the feeling, but given the existence of Slickshot Showoff and how it already enables some crazy bursts I wouldn't be surprised if the deck ends up adopting the leyline and becoming a problem and warping the format. I don't think the leyline itself will eat a ban, but Showoff might end up being banned ("banned in Bo1", perhaps?)

I'm super excited for the overlord cycle, especially the red and white ones, because I thought Coiling Rebirth was one of the coolest cards in Bloomburrow, but with the non-legendary clause on it, there wasn't really a lot in standard that worked really well with it. But now, with a cycle of non-legendary creatures with strong enters and attack triggers? Hoo boy. For the cost of letting your opponent draw a card, Coiling Rebirth of Overlord of the Mistmoors, for example, puts 15 power across 6 bodies into play, 8 of which has flying, making this at the very least, significantly more worth building a deck around.

After having very good success in the last standard rcq season with ojer axonil, I definitely plan to use it with needle head. They take 4 per card draw, or even pump with a card like monstrous rage and they take 7 just for drawing a card.

leyline is either going to be nuts busted in the prowess deck and will need a ban asap. or at the very worst, it will just be ok. the up side of killing your op t2 out of nowhere plus the insane amount of t3 kills it will enable, will at the very least be equally as good as just not running a clunky 4 drop do nothing enchantment. cant wait for jim to be soo soo wrong about this card.

7:55 I think you mean "without a downside" because Viashino Sandstalker from visions was a 4/2 with haste for 3 mana, but you had to bounce it back to your hand. Lathnu Hellion in Kaladesh was a 4/4 with haste but required an upkeep cost of 2 energy. I think this is the first one without a major downside. "Must be blocked" I guess is a mini downside but not really. It can be an upside sometimes.

That endurance courage , it be Allright if you were say pumping out a bunch of tokens, monks or otters for example with prowess or another ability. Getting tokens out EC makes them 3/1 with haste then cast a shock or a lighting strike and then you have some 4/2's come at you. I'm not going to put 4 in my deck, but it has a use, mabye 2?

24:53 vs a lifegain opponent, you just shoot the Nemesis yourself. The nemesis will probably die (not sure if shock is playable in contructed roght now) but their deck basically stops working. Also, I think Boros Reckoner was carried a lot by blasphemous act.

I definitely know he is wrong. It makes all your monstrous roles you draw 2 of them which is the best card in the deck. Saying they can die to removal sure, that is why mono red is dominate standard right now because they deal damage on their death. And something like felonious rage leaving behind 2 tokens now? They have stronger start and are pretty much out tempo you now

keep in mind i dont think its as big a miss as your take on sheoldred was. But Resonance will be played and red will be the best aggressive deck because of it. theres also many other combinations to turn 2 kill than just scamp + 2 pump spells

The main issue Is if you draw It, it's mostly a dead draw. It all depends on the Speed gained vs consistency Lost. If Leyline allows for consistent Turn 3 kills, maybe you don't mind some dead draws, if the dead draws are too common and detrimental to a deck already reliant on nut draws, Leyline Is a scam. Maybe the new Delirium cards help.

@@OsvaldoChannel1 i dont even think its necessarily a dead draw though, not ideal, no but even if you have to take a turn off on turn 4 for it, it in turns doubles all of your pump spells, giving you even more gas. plus you can choose new targets for the copies so you dont have to go all in on one creature. this card will give them more early fast wins and if they draw it, it will enable for more wins in the late game where they tend to fall apart. i think jim is way off on this one

That deck needs all gas on each draw. Getting a leyline late is terrible, because either you already are in a position to win and it did nothing for you, or the opponent has removed/countered your early plays and you desperately need to reload. Taking a turn to do nothing just lets the opponent stabilize further.

@@adderous idk bro, if you tap out against red prowess your very likely to lose the next turn, that deck is great at just slamming down a slick shot turn 5 or 6 and unloading their hand for 20 point life swing when the coast is clear. hard to really stabilize on board when you have to leave your mana up. again its not idea but i don't think drawing it is the end of the world, and if it is, you could just run a few of the tormenting voice variant from BLB that if you gift a tressure, you give target creature +2/+0. either way, the amount of t2 and t3 kills it will enable is more than likely going to be worth it. and if your whole argument is, its bad when you run out of gas, well, that deck tends to lose if your out of cards and are just topdecking anyway.

You could be right about leyline. IDK about nemesis, though. As you know, mono red these days plays only 2 drops or less. The card would of been crack in previous standards, and I'm not a fan of the design of it (permanent no life gain is too overbearing of a punishment for the lifegain decks).

6 mana is not expensive for standard lol. You don't play it in aggro, you play it in midrange / big red and ramp. Prepare to lose to it a lot. :)

Yeah, I don't see it either. We already have the dragon who deals 4 on etb for 6 mana, and has better stats. And I think this overlord is way better on 6 than 4. 4 mana for 4 dmg sorcery speed is very week.
