I think Jim is too hard on Dracosaur for dying to removal. Similar to Sheoldred, it dies to removal but you basically can't lose if it doesn't. It effectively draws you two extra cards a turn (without triggering Sheoldred), produces 1 or 2 tokens as well, and can kill almost anything that attacks you, including Shelly herself. Monday night quarterbacking: Jim missed how well the Red God and Sunshot Militia combo with both Anvil and each other. The Militia in particular is no mere C- limited creature, it's a viable Constructed card.

I think a lot of people are underrating scytheclaw raptor. i know its obvious application is against draw-go control decks, but a ton of the top standard decks right now do actually pass turn a ton with mana open (esper midrange, UW soldiers, golgari, even domain) if they decide to play around the 4 damage it still forces them to spend their mana awkwardly which i think can go a really long way in helping a red deck get under a midrange pile

I think the Idol of the Deep King (3 mana common artifact that shocks on ETB and crafts into an auto-equipping Bonesplitter) will play better than it looks if you're in the W/R deck that wants to have lots of artifacts around to tap. If you ever have the Idol on the board at the same time as the Gold strider thingy that taps two artifacts to give something +2/+0, you're threatening a seriously explosive turn each time you untap. Tap the Idol and a token for +2/+0, craft the two things you just tapped into the +2/+0 equipment, tap the equipment and something else for another +2/+0... And you can point those boosts wherever, if you have a flier or a double striker or just want to pile it all onto your trampling 3/5 Gold boy

I think the dragon is great. There are lots of smaller creatures that will need to be answered so it has a better chance of sticking. And if it does, it will just dominate the game from there.
@alpha34098 Жыл бұрын
Yeah, thats the biggest aspect most don't regard of this card. Opponents are known to never be holding removal on their hand for too long. making it very likely that, by the time it arrives onto the Battlefield, the Opponent had wasted all their removal on more important threats like Sheoldred, Etali, Atraxa, etc; that Dracosaur would have the free road during that turn. And once that happens, it'll be just a matter of time before the opponent gets steamed by Dracosaur and any other threat that comes after it or forced to Scoop because it will require to get Lucky with their draws to get rid of him by that point It's all about timing the Summon to the Opponent's weakest moment. This also means that this card must never be cheated early

I think magmatic galleon is a case where it's rare because of limited. If it were an uncommon it would just be way too strong for how frequently it would show up too frequently for how much value it brings to the table in limited.

Carnosaur's cheap alternate casting cast and effect makes it so much more playable, as getting it into the yard to reanimate is half the fun, like a creature Magma Opus.

I'm gonna put my wildcards where my mouth is and say Bonehorde Dracosaur puts Rakdos back on the map. Imagine t4 shelly into t5 dracosaur after opp uses their last removal on shelly now you have something that is drawing you extra cards and either ramping or putting bodies out. No matter what two cards come off the top you're getting something. I dunno a draco on board starting T6 into a behold the multiverse or big chandra or vraska seems pretty good. The Floor on this is two 3/1s. so five mana for 11 power 5 of which is extremely hard to block....I'm just rambling now, I think the card is excellent
@alpha34098 Жыл бұрын
Besides, by the time it arrives, it's very likely that the Opponent would've wasted their removal on threats that were cheated out by that point

I think if Brass's Tunnel Grinder has a chance to shine anywhere, it'd be in the sideboard of midrange decks to bring in against control. You play it, loot away some stuff, and eventually get a hard to kill engine that turns every threat you play into a 2 for 1, which is gonna beat just about any control deck not running Field of Ruin.

Best in Show: Belligerent Yearling - I say this begrudgingly because I think most of the red rares are doodoo. If the dinosaur deck is real, and by all accounts I think it has a shot given some of the massive bodies on rate, this 2 drop....having tramp.....curving into the 6/6 green 3 drop (Pugnacious Hammerskull)....and attacking for 6 tramp damage on turn 3 feels like a line you can expect to see a lot. Maybe it even starts at a 4/3 because of turn 1 Kumano or something. Sleeper: Scytheclaw Raptor - I'm ready to be wrong here, but I think this is going to be pretty good. People are mostly reading this as counterspell hate...but I think it's just more penalizing people for trying to play efficiently. People trying to hold up mana for "end of turn" removal or blowouts when someone is attacking...the text on this feels pretty good....and a 3 mana 4/3 is beefy to begin with. Trap: Inti, Seneschal of the Sun - it reads like card advantage...but it inherently plays poorly for the deck it has to go in. Since you only get to play the card until your next end step...so this turn...you have to keep mana up for post combat....which means no haster or anything played precombat...minimal in combat tricks...etc. This doesn't feel very good. Bombin Common: Abrade - nothing to say here. premium removal with a completely relevant second mode.
@davidwitt5585 Жыл бұрын
This may end up being the color I get the most wrong. Trumpeting Carnosaur is pretty great. Scytheclaw Raptor has been kind of whatever. Breeches has also been pretty solid. Still not high on Inti, though it seems strong in limited in my experiences.

See, I dont think Bonehoard Dracosaur is a trap (in a straight dino deck), I understand the counterspell tempo or bounce statement, however Cavern of souls is being reprinted so chances are it wont get countered, plus it makes bodies AND treasures, first strike flying so sheoldred will never be able to attack if it's on board, makes blockers that can be used to chump while it gives the ability to swing in over top every turn, plus the treasures give so much ramp to get yourself and card play. Obviously if youre playing this anywhere else it's pretty much a dud, however even in big red, it has so much potential to close out a game against midrange decks it's incredible. Not to mention playing a trumpeting carnosaur, discover 5 has a chance to let you the bonehoard dracosaur, imagine playing a 6 mana dino, then getting a 5 mana dino that just wins you the game in 1-2 turns. This card forces your opponent to use removal on it or face the consequences, but youre still left with a 7/6 trampler
@jackiespaceman Жыл бұрын
Wait - you can fizzle a craft ability by destroying the artifact you’re trying to craft with? That makes craft way worse than I thought. I thought saccing the thing was a cost and therefore not disruptible

The exiles are before the colon, so they are a part of the cost, you were correct

I must say that I disagree on the dracosaur, a 5/5 flying first striker that generates 3/1 tokens, treasures, and allows you to play the exiled cards too! Looks like a bomb to me...
@su0tin731 Жыл бұрын
I'd say the Bonehoard Dracosaur is better than the Trumpeting Carnosaur. You said BD can't deal with Atraxa, but so doesn't TC, and BD, thanks to First Strike, can block and kill Atraxa with the help of a 2 dmg spell. In red. TC won't ever block Atraxa and will be ignored by her most of the time. TC provides tempo advantage the turn you play it, then it's "just" a 7/6 trample. BD gives progressive advantage, both card and board advantage. Both have a decent body to dodge dmg based removal, and I'd value flying+first strike higher than trample. It might be close, but I'd bet the dragon gets more play than the dinosaur, even if just in sideboards, or some Big Red type of deck that might spawn.

pirate synergies, 5/5's that do everything next turn, none of this matters in the current standard. the answers are too good. the only cards that survive are standalone good cards that do everything by themselves (sheoldred, wandering emperor, etc).
@tomsmith4698 Жыл бұрын
The flavour of this plane could not be more all over the place. Like what was the creative direction? Spanish invasion of Aztec communities except it's prehistoric with dinosaurs and inside a cave and also there are pirates but they're cave pirates and the sea people are there but not the sea cuz it's a cave oh and there are like monster gods who turn into vast tracts of lands even though it's a cave, and we turn our old broken artifacts into vehicles. Possibly vampire infestation as well. Oh and the vampires are in league with the skeletons. The fungus people are working with the pirates we think.

I think it is very much in line with the first Ixalan block, because the rival factions were all after the big mcguffin. This time it's like a race to explore the caves. It is very cringe with the Smash Up tribes I agree, but people enjoy silly things.
