Great video, it was very helpful to change the hpfp on my 640i. One word of warning though the two DME plugs that are nearest the front of the car are interchangeable. If you get them the wrong way round you could do major damage to the DME and/or lots of sensors. Unbelievable that BMW would make them like that!

Thanks for the comments Nick, glad the video was helpful on your BMW project. Appreciate the tip regarding the connectors, we didn't even realized they could go into either slot. Sounds like an oversight on BMW for that one. Cheers!

Great video I’m doing mine next week and after watching this video I’m extremely confident now! I have a 2012 X5 and I get the P0087 but this only comes on when I go wide open throttle. Do you think it’s the pump, I would hate to go thru all this to find out it’s not. I haven’t tried replacing the high pressure sensor as yet but will be doing that also.

I would definitely give the high pressure sensor a go, which is fairly easy to get to and not that expensive. www.fcpeuro.com/products/bmw-high-pressure-fuel-sensor-bosch-0261545071 If you are still having the same symptoms after replacing that, then you can feel confident that the pump will have to get replaced. These are the most common issues: P0087 BMW Fuel Rail System Pressure Too Low Possible causes - Faulty fuel pump - Blocked fuel filter - Faulty fuel pressure sensor Since the pump and filter are integrated on the N55 motor that rules out the above list after the high pressure sensor replacement. Looks like the cost has skyrocketed since we last did this repair. www.fcpeuro.com/Parts/?keywords=13517616446 Good luck with your repairs, glad the video could help you out, Cheers!

Hey there, great video thanks! I was wondering if it was possible to plug in the cables back into the ECU in the wrong order or if they were hard coded such that you couldn't do that?

Hey James, from what I can remember all the connectors have a specific style so you can't physically plug them in incorrectly. Hope this helps you with your project, Cheers!

2:50 - I'd want to cut off the end of the allen and put a socket and extension on there so there's more turning and less tedious. (Or the obvious in having longer allen wrenches)

Thanks for the comments, maybe something like these would make it easier to get in there. www.amazon.com/ELEAD-Extra-Long-Allen-Hex-Socket/dp/B0CD71SBVV This was one of our first videos and we didn't have a wide selection of tools back then. We have added a lot of tools since then so it would be a little different doing it today. Good luck on your BMW project, thanks for hanging out. Cheers!

@@BradleysGarage That would definitely do it. Hopefully if someone runs into a similar problem, the comment helps them get around the issue easier as well. (My own X5 is currently in a shop with what we believe is a damaged rod bearing)

Yes! Thank you so much for a great video. I’ve got a fuel delivery issue on my 2010 x5 and it won’t start at all. I’m getting a code P0192 Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor Circuit Low Bank 1. Would you start by replacing the sensor that’s on the fuel rail or down by the HPFPs? Thanks!
@BradleysGarage
@BradleysGarage 3 жыл бұрын
Glad you enjoyed the video. The "high" pressure one is on top at the back of the fuel rail. which is a lot easier to access. If you are not able to start the car at all, you might be looking at the HPFP being bad. The problem with the P0192 code is it doesn't really apply to the our engine with respect to signaling a bad "low pressure sensor" since we don't have one. Not sure why BMW went back and forth with having one then deleting on certain engines. Diagram 17 on this picture shows the tube that the sensor would screw into but it's capped off on our engine. www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/showparts?id=ZV43-USA-09-2009-E70N-BMW-X5_35iX&diagId=13_1355 The HPFP had known issues during these years and would be what I'm looking at to replace. Good luck with the project. Cheers!

Hi there. I already replaced the high pressure fuel pump; however, still the sign of engine with the reduced power is appeared on my screen. What should I do right now? Replace the low pressure fuel pump sensor or the high pressure fuel pump sensor or maybe both? What yours opinion. Thanks
@BradleysGarage
@BradleysGarage 3 жыл бұрын
The first step would be to run a scan on the car (either with INPA or a regular scan tool) in order to try to narrow down the code. That may help point you in the right direction and not just throw parts at it. I know there were a lot of issues with the "Low Pressure" sensor that caused issues on these. That is the sensor that is located right next to the HPFP. Let us know what you find after grabbing the code. Cheers

@@BradleysGarage yea we did and I spoke to a mechanic. He told me to replace the high pressure fuel pump. As we did, the result turns out the problem is still exist, so I am going to replace the low pressure fuel pump sensor.

hi there. The sign is disappeared after we replaced the new high pressure fuel pump. However, during the process of starting up the vehicle, we need to press it two times to start it up. As we hit the start button, it misfired. And we have to try again, it works. What should we do right now? I am thinking of the fuel injector? Any comment on this? Thanks

Great video! Is that the OEM Bosch HPFP? You show $339 in your parts list in the description but the OEM is $720 at the same site. Not sure if the pandemic more than doubled the price or yours is an aftermarket part.
@BradleysGarage
@BradleysGarage 3 жыл бұрын
Yes, I used the OEM genuine BMW remanufactured pump and paid $339 from FCP. It does appear that the pricing has doubled since I did the repair. Not sure if that is pandemic related or the price has just gone up that much on stuff? It seems like the older the cars get, the most costly the parts get our the more difficult it is to source them. Since the E70 is getting to be 10 years old, you might be able to find a wrecked one in the junkyard and grab parts from that. Here is SoCal we have a ton of LKQ yards that will put our newer cars from time to time. I would stick with a wrecked one since it was most likely running good when it got wrecked. Cheers!

@@BradleysGarage Thanks, I'll check around. I'm kind of out in the sticks of North Georgia, about 70 miles north of Atlanta but I see X5's on the road a good bit so there's got to be a place around here where they go to die.

@@BradleysGarage against everyone's advice I ended up taking a chance on an aftermarket HPFP and got it installed all thanks to your excellent walk through. My X5 is running great now. If I need to do it again I'll order an assortment of 5mm allen wrench drill attachments. Those bolts were the ones that had me rethinking every choice I've ever made in life.

I’m getting a “fuel pump” message with a “reduced engine power” alert then my 2011 x5 dies. It will restart in about 10 minutes wait time and not have the issue again. I’m assuming since the car can restart, it’s not actually the fuel pump. I saw another video where he removes the high pressure fuel sensor from the passenger side through removing the wheel well. However, his was an xdrive50i and mines an xdrive35i. Is the this sensor in the same location/ how do i not destroy my wife’s bmw 😂

Hey Shaun, I was having a similar issue when mine failed. I was getting the same error message and it would come and go. It would also start up again and then seem to be fine but the error message came back over and over. You can always try the High Pressure Sensor first, since that part is pretty inexpensive and easy to get to.
