@BmwFinatik Жыл бұрын
Another good diy fix I’m glad I found out about this replacement pcv valve cap . I’m getting that squealing noise and was about to have to replace the valve cover and I’m dreading that cuz I had a oil leak about a year ago and replaced the valve cover gasket-I 11:18 snapped one of the valve cover bolts in the process so will probably have to tap n die to extract it. I just do not want to do that job again any time soon But I am almost positive I need a new valvetronic/servo motor anyway because I am getting codes for that as well so unfortunately that is something I am going to have to take on Another great video my guy 🤘 & wish me luck 🤞

Probably best to just pick up the Valvetronic kit which includes the Valvecover gasket and just knock it out. This fix worked temporarily for me until I could replace the Valvecover.

I have an EWG N55 with 115k mi still on the original valve cover and PCV. I wanted run a quick test by slowing removing the oil filter on a fully warmed up engine at idle and I when removed the car I felt air being sucked in the crankcase with with a psssshh sound then engine idled rough for a few second until I replaced the cap. I drove the car the next day, there was no CEL but I noticed about max 2 teaspoon of oil on the driveway in only one spot. I typically don't burn any oil between OCI, no rough idle, no smoke, no CEL and this engine pulls hard since it has MPPK retrofitted. Btw the valve cover and gasket are scheduled for replacement since I notice some oil sweating in passenger side of the gasket towards the back. Any advice on that?
@JohnsonMotorsports8 ай бұрын
Yeah, I would definitely replace the valve cover. Removing the oil cap on our engines will always result in the car stumbling and a rough idle. That is due to the vacuum system being built in the valvecover. Replacing the valvecover may also fix the oil leak, however you may want to inspect your oil pan gasket.
@vicwahbyphotography48662 жыл бұрын
Hi Grant. As much as I liked your video, the diagnosis producing a failing PCV valve would be very helpful. As you say in the comments below, you eventually replaced the whole valve cover, but you don't actually say why. So, as us DIY'ers look for solutions, it's key to get the diagnosis correct before jumping to the cost saving fix. In this case, I think you should tack-on some text saying you eventually replaced the valve cover. I do have a question though... If the PCV test OK, but the valve cover needs replacing, might it be OK to replace just the valve cover gasket? Cheers, Vic
@JohnsonMotorsports2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your input. I will update the video description. As far as the PCV testing good and just replacing the gasket. From what I have found it is more efficient to just pick up a replacement Valve cover and gasket and replace. The run around $100 online for a non OEM unit and they are almost identical. In most cases the plastic Valve cover has also got gunked up in the vacuum ports or has an internal vacuum leak between chambers that will continue to cause issues.

I’m replacing this today - thanks for the heads up! Was burning oil, low coolant in reservoir, and a lot of white smoke from exhaust upon starting/accelerating from a stop, is indicative of pcv/ccv valve? Is it also called the oil separator? Thanks again!

Nice video, Grant. My friends have a 2014 X3 35i F25 with N55 "twin scroll" turbo motor. They have 123,000 on the clock, and have done some oil changes, but not enough, my opinion. Their car has some fairly serious oil leaks. Most of it seems to be dripping down near the back of the valve cover on the passenger side (USA car) onto the exhaust of cat. conv. We recently replaced the valve cover gasket, but it still leaks in the same spot. We used a Mahle valve cover gasket. We are getting this much mentioned 101F01 code and mainly have a rough idle now. I'm wondering what to try next on their X3. The rough idle is often caused by the PCV valve on these N55 cars ?
@JohnsonMotorsports3 жыл бұрын
I had to replace my Valve Cover to due to the PCV valve. The fix in this video on helped temporarily. I assume you will need to do the same. The new valve cover could possibly fix the oil leak issue as well.

@JohnsonMotorsports3 жыл бұрын
Honestly I’m not familiar with your engine, but my buddy that works for BMW suggested performing a compression test. Because vent valves tend to fail simply from plastic dry rotting. If in fact it AND the VCG failed due to high crankcase pressure, that is a very troublesome situation.

This is worst shit you can do... Being a BMW ASE Certified technician these types of videos bother the shit out of me. It steers people in the complete wrong direction, wastes money and causes following issues to derive later on. On this system you should never be replacing just this part separately, the entire valve cover needs to be replaced. Yes the entire valve cover, yes just because the PCV is bad. Sorry but that’s the perks that come with owning a BMW.
@chucke33052 жыл бұрын
What caused the diafram to burst? I tried the quick fix and it only worked a week. I don't want the new valve cover to fail also. Can you point me in the right direction please.🧐🤓
@JohnsonMotorsports2 жыл бұрын
I think the issue has to die with age. Just the heat cycling overtime makes the plastic parts brittle and they eventually crack. A new valve cover is eventually needed.
@mihalym.68762 жыл бұрын
Got a reply typical for ASE: telling nothing. If you are so proud of being ASE than explain for us how the whole PCV system is designed, including all the valves in the VC and PCV pipes, possible malfunction points, etc. Instead of that the result of all of your ASE education tells us: replace the VC. Sorry to brother you, the administrator at the BMW dealer desk can tell the same without any ASE paper. If you do not want or have information to share to help DIY guys to repair their stuff than do something else and do not waste anybodies time.
@drdavetexas2 жыл бұрын
The WORSE shit you can do is to pay BMW $200/h for very simply repairs. I have the money, that is beside the point many who drive a little older BMW do not. Additionally, many of us who work on cars like to solve problems & are proud of the solutions we find. Lastly, the primary thing that separates a mechanically inclined "DIY " individual from a BMW mechanic is access to information which BWM attempts to lock down. Also , you speak as if OEM BMW valve covers are superior products, which most of us "DIY" aka BMW owners have disproved that myth on "most common replaced ( problem ) parts.
