I guess I'll jump on the Epilogue train here. Not one of my personal favorites, but maybe you'll dig it more than this one. Afterwards, I'd recommend *Sugar* , Marche Royale/In Aeternum, Syphillis (yeah, I know) or basically any of the remaining songs off the Agony album. But yeah, in the context of the album, this song is a nice lull in the absolute onslaught of an album that is Agony. Blast beats GALORE, man. Also, keep in mind. This was their second album, but their first album fully incorporating symphonic elements into their music. I'd say they've improved their composition since then, imo. Now, I've seen these guys mentioned in the comments: Septicflesh Absolutely recommend them. Like someone already said, their guitarist Christos Antoniou (gnarly name) writes all the orchestrations himself. For song suggestions: Oceans Of Grey, Order Of Dracul, Prometheus or Dark Art.

I really enjoyed that one. The piano line under the whole song was gorgeous, and I loved the periodic discordant notes that accented it. Sure it could have had more movement, but what it had was enough for me. My only complaint is that I wish the unclean vocals were more distinct.

I must say that this song is really different from their usual songs, maybe it wasn't the best showcase of the "fleshgod style". Still a great song and video as always tho. If you want something more complex I would go with "the day we'll be gone" or "minotaur". For something more technical maybe those or "sugar" and "mafia"

Never seen anyone do this song before, everyone seems to do sugar and monna lisa when doing this album. It´s good to see some of their other songs getting attention. I like the slowness of this song alot, if you do something more from this album pissing on the score is a great piece.

Gotta do it I only want you to react to one song right now. It's recharging the void by VEKTOR. I find that this album that this song is off is a true masterpiece. They have 3 albums. all concept albums if i remember correctly. Its progressive trash with bits of tech, death and classical. The lead singer has a very destinct voice. This song in particular is the climax of this epic syfi tale that unfolds over the album. It pulls bits and pieces from throughout the album. This band is a gem. I revisit them at least once every 3-6 months and than who knows how long before i can put them down again. I listen to alot of music and nothing has really taken my breath away like this band has in a while. This is thrash music on space pcp. I know i suggest alot of shit. I love your channel. Stay awesome. I love going on this Journey with you.

That's pretty spot on, they mostly play the extremely fast symphonic death metal, but they have their softer moments, such as here. Prologue/Epilogue, Paramour (Die Leidenschaft Bringt Lieden) which is literally just piano and operatic vocals, and the day we'll be gone are other examples, but I've found that farther in their discography, they experiment more with slower stuff.

I don't think I am correct, but what I hear as a "homage" on the piano is Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata. Same chords, not in the same order, and, obviously, accelerated. :p

Hey Brian, if the classical and metal crossover speak to you I would suggest vividly Obtained Enslavement's "The Dark Night of Souls" from the "Soulblight" album. Their twist on the symphonic genre is basically the fact that apart from some piano they almost completely disregard keyboards or samples and do all the melodies through guitars. The result is akin to compositions of romantic era being put through a blender of very harsh black metal sound trappings. The production might be offputting, as most 90s black metal was, but there's a lot of melodies shining through the fuzzy wall of sound and the aggressive drumming. They're not widely known, but they were among the most unique.
@thegrimner
@thegrimner 3 жыл бұрын
Or if you're feeling adventurous, Elend's "Du Trefond des Tenebres" which is the opposite: Metal influenced classical. Very dark and aggressive and chaotic and achieved only with sampled orchestra, a chorus and male screaming/spoken word. All based on catholic lithurgy adapted to a reinterpretation of Milton's Paradise Lost.

Thank you for the reaction. Although it is pretty emotional track for me, it might be not so interesting for reviewing. If you love hearing orchestral in metal, you should check our summoning. There are not so many reactions on it on KZbin, because they have no concerts, no lives, no videos. But their music is magical. They forged Tolkien-oriented atmospheric black metal. And Tolkien’s poetry ideally fits magnificent abm music. The most inspiring to review would be Old Morning Dawn track.

Relatively speaking with regard to fleshgod's other more popular songs, The Forsaking is a simpler. For me, its honestly one of the most powerful songs I've ever heard. A lot of people joke about it being on the list of songs to make a metalhead cry lol. My favorite part is how slow the tempo is while still being driven forward by ridiculous drums.

This is one of those bands I always enjoy when I hear them but I've yet to do a full discog run yet. I don't like this one as well as most of the other tracks I've heard. It's by no means bad, but probably one of the few from them that's not going to stick with me. The term for a theme/motif that's repeated throughout a piece is called an ostinato. If that theme/motif is passed around to different instruments/voices and/or varied it's called a passacaglia, which this would probably classify is. Great passacaglias include Bach's Passacaglia & Fugue in Cm, the 4th movement of Brahms's 4th symphony, and Godowsky's (massive) passacaglia for piano. I also really like Schnittke's passacaglia, but you can't find it online (only on CD)! I don't know if Beethoven would be writing metal now, but his Grosse Fugue is as heavy and headbanging-worthy than any metal. Chopin was romantic era, btw.

Based on what you were hoping to hear from Fleshgod after seeing The Violation, and your reaction to The Forsaking, the next Fleshgod song you should check out is definitely Epilogue. The compositional structure, originality and technicality is exactly what I think you were looking for. It'll blow your mind. The Forsaking is actually from the same album as The Violation (the album is called Agony), and is probably what you'd call the 'ballad' of the album. Epilogue comes from the following album, Labyrinth, which is a concept album about the legend of the Labyrinth of Knossos.

Isn't the repetition of the same motif called leitmotiv ? Or is it something else ?
@CriticalReactions

Sort of, but leitmotif is usually a recurring idea or theme in the music that is associated with a character, place, or concept. The Imperial March playing every time that Darth Vader shows up is probably the most popular leitmotif in modern pop culture.

But just not for reactions channels, sorry :( I'll go with any of these tracks: The Fool (King, 2016) Absinthe (Veleno, 2019) Monnalisa (Veleno, 2019) The Hypocrisy (Agony, 2011) - but you already did one track from this album - The Violation (one of their best tracks ever)
