Looking forward to watching this! My apologies if you mention this but will you eventually talk of the shortcomings of this method (I see it’d be nice to have “bounce light” from the ground onto the ship)? And what could be done to get around those shortcomings? I think it’s because how fusion can’t render that kind of lighting right?
@VFXstudy5 жыл бұрын
Hi James, thanks for the point, realistic bounced light from the gorund would indeed be a chellange. Here the contrast and sunlight is quite strong (spotlight in the 3d scene) and I just use some ambient light to fill in the black parts not lit by the spotlight to match the shadow areas of the scene. Even in a full 3D suites you would have difficulty calculating this 100% accurately since it's live-action footage so there is no real ground plane in 3D. Of course you could project it or even reverse project it back onto the ship - but maybe quite some effort just to get a little bit of ambient light - maybe not necessary. If you have ideas how to improve on this though, feel free to share...
@Eli_Aura5 жыл бұрын
Amazing tutorial. Thank you. It would be nice to add light reflected by the ground to the bottom of the ship to add more realism.

I love your material! You do excellent effects! Anyway for some reason I can't import the model of the ship, I keep getting this like partially covered version of the ship where the material is only covering like 1/10 of the ship and it's all broken apart. Idk, is it something with my Davinci Resolve Settings or something? imgur.com/a/WB9UHAA

UPDATE: I discovered a work around! I feel like this might not be the best way to do this, but I put a transform node between the Diffuse PNG and the "Map1" node and turned the size way up until it seemed to match up and cover the entire object. Is that an okay solution? It seems to be working.

Great thanx amazing tutorial AGAIN! How do you make a shadows catcher inside fusion? let s say I have a BALL made inside Fusion and a floor a light and camera and a real world backdrop, I want the shadows from the ball to hit the realworld ground. Any tips please.
@VFXstudy5 жыл бұрын
This will come up in this tutorial series :) Next week I'll get the shadow from the space ship onto the ground plane of a 3d camera tracked scene in part 2 of this tutorial. From there I can render the shadow and composite it into the live shot... that part will come in part 4 :-)

@@VFXstudy Wow Thank you sir, cant wait too see it, I have done this in After Effects and a lot in Cinema 4D it were easy (a 3D plane that only receives shadows on real world footage). But I cant figure out how its done in Fusion.

Absolutely amazing from you to share this, 1000 thanks. Pls may I ask before I start: all stuff you do in Fusion Studio, can this also be done in the Fusion page of DaVinci Resolve Studio 16? Ahhh - questions answered at 3:56 😊
@VFXstudy4 жыл бұрын
Yes, Fusion Studio and Resolve Studio have the same tools and are fully compatible. I often use Fusion Studio for its stability and slightly better performance, RAM usage and interface with lower footprint. In case you have the Resolve dongle you can run Fusion Studio as well with it if you like.

@VFXstudy5 жыл бұрын

Hi Bernd, thanks for all your videos. I am attempting to import the FBX model in the link into Fusion using Fusion > Import > FBX scene but DR crashes after I select the file and click OK on the FBX Importer dialog box. I've checked that the file is OK by importing into Blender. I know I have imported this file in the past, perhaps to a previous version of DR17. I have DR Studio 17.4.4 Build 7 installed. Could you check this please ? Thanks again. Edit 1. I created a fusion composition first and then imported the model. Its not crashed this time and I can see nodes. Perhaps this is what I had to do anyway. Beginner problems I guess. Edit 2. Scrap the above. I started again, this time repeated your step of importing the "Wind farm.mp4" into the timeline, then in fusion, importing the FBX and its ok, I can see the model now. No crash.

Some great skills there for sure but the spaceship doesn't look photorealistic. Will you be doing that in a later tutorial? Using HDR image and ray tracing.
@VFXstudy5 жыл бұрын
Fusion's renderer does have some limitations and won't give the quality you may achieve with v-ray, renderman & co. But still not bad for a compositing software, guess you have to render from a full 3d application to get a bit further. Reg. HDR, possible but I'm always on the lookout for footage and models that I may freely pass onwards to the audience for exercise as well. If you have suggestions... 😊

@@VFXstudy Is it possible to animate the individual parts of a model. For example, could I animate the wheels of a car, or a robotic arm moving back and forth up and down?
@VFXstudy2 жыл бұрын
@@JWS1968 Depends. If you get those parts as individual meshes, then you can animate them. This ship came with multiple rotating parts and I changed that animation in Fusion. If you get just one mesh, then of course your options are very limited. Also think about the complexity of the animation. A simple rotating wheel should be easy enough in Fusion but if you need more advanced rigging like for walk cycles for example, trying to recreate that in Fusion would be cumbersome or impossible.
@JWS19682 жыл бұрын
@@VFXstudy Thanks for the reply. I was wanting to try and keep it all inside DR but doesn't look like it'll be possible. I want to do set extensions and animate stuff like in Element 3D but without having to go into After Effects. Are there any plugins for Fusion like Element 3D or the Trapcode plugins available?
@VFXstudy2 жыл бұрын
@@JWS1968 Well Fusion does have it's own render engine so Element 3D might not be needed - but reg. animation does Element 3D provide advanced animation/rigging options? Haven't heard of that. Trapcode is of course famous for particles and Fusion has it's own particle system. There are third party ofx plugins available for different things. Not sure helpful for you in that case. For Raytracing at the moment I think only option is doing it outside...
@finallyfree5734 жыл бұрын
Isn't it better to export camera from Fusion to specialized 3d software like Blender? to work with model, animate etc. And then export as a png sequence back to Fusion to compose. What kind of render engine Fusion uses? I think it can hardly compete renders like Cycles or Redshift.

So far I can't even get Wind Farm Mp4 to work. Tried your (super old) FFMPEG tutorial... now it kind of works, but only frame by frame. Yet plays with no problems in Resolve. I don't get it. My Setup is very decent, I use Studio versions... and can't use a bloody mp4?

@@dacorn. you don't really do advanced 3d modeling in Fusion. It's a compositing software. You can do some basic planes and cubes etc., but otherwise you should import the models and or the render passes. For modeling look at Blender, 3ds max, Maya, etc.

Nice tutorial, but can fusion create realistic like renders? Much like blender?
@VFXstudy5 жыл бұрын
Everything you see in this tutorial is rendered from Fusion. Fusion has a software renderer with great low antializing and a GPU based renderer which supports depth of field. You can use decent illumination models with bumpmap etc. and set up lights and shadows. However, the focus for Fusion are 3d compositing with projections and simple 3d tasks. It's not as sophisticated as Blender's cycles or renderman, V-ray, etc. E.g. options for reflections are limited, true 3d ambient occlusion is not available. Also no image based lighting (like lighting from HDRIs). Advanced rendering stuff like rendering caustic etc. is also not there. See the 3d stuff in Fusion as a great extension to 2d compositing - Not as a full replacement for a 3D suite like Blender or Maya.

Fusion can use both OpenCL and CUDA for GPU acceleration. Both should work fine. Here it's mostly about the renderer3d where you can use the OpenGL renderer which is faster with GPU acceleration or you can use the Software renderer which is CPU based.

Hey, I am using resolve 16 and fusion within it. Everytime I import a 3D model and apply textures the texture map never lines up as intended, what am I doing wrong? The models is full of holes in the texture maps

I think I finally solved the issue, changed all the textures to 2000x2000 prior to importing into resolve as I am using the free version of resolve and believe it was limiting me from using anything near 4K
@VFXstudy4 жыл бұрын
@@JARofEMUS oh. Not sure about it. You had the issue with the spaceship textures here? The UHD limit is for render output in the free version. I am not aware there's a limit for textures

@@VFXstudy , thanks for your reply. Yeah it seems that resizing the textures by 50% their original size fixed the issue, I can only assume that the free version doesn't allow the textures to load into DaVinci resolve 16 at their original size. I can share some screenshots to explain my issue. I don't have the funds for the studio version yet.
