I harbored aspirations to write comedy when I was younger, but eventually had to accept that it wasn't my strength. I mention this not out of pity but because it's helped me to really appreciate gifted comedy writers (like you and Conan) who can reflexively snatch a brilliant reply/idea out of the air vs. guys like me who only think of a decent joke two hours later while driving home.

The question isn't IF Shakespeare could write all his stuff, it's: if he didn't - who did? I've heard of Christopher Marlowe and such... his stuff was good but it didn't match. Shakespeare worked with the actors, in a theater. He could hear and see what worked and didn't. He also 'borrowed' occasionally.
@DontBeAlonewithJayKogen5 ай бұрын
Okay but as a writer I'm here to say there are many writers who are terrible flawed lacking people that write amazing uplifting beautiful work. Background is not the foundation of writing. Imagination is. And that glove maker's son might have written every word.

Conan tried to retire Jay, it backfired in his face. When you're rich you don't have the right to complain.
@JayKogen5 ай бұрын
Not exactly. NBC signed a contract with Conan to persuade him to 1. Stay in the 12:30 slot for several more years with the promise of the Tonight Show when Jay retired so Conan wouldn't go to another network. They made a promise and a contract. Conan didn't need the Tonight Show. Jay Leno said he'd leave at a certain time and NBC offered the gig to Conan to prevent him from starting a new show. When NBC went back on their contract it cost Conan many opportunities and money and reputation. So I think he does have a right to complain. Even when you are rich.
@john_avernia5 ай бұрын
I wouldn't say it backfired. Conan became a legend talkshow host and built, which later became, a podcast empire. I'm not American. I don't know anyone who know Jay Leno. But I do know a lot of people who likes Conan. And the number is growing. Even my nieces like him, and they're teenagers.
@liamk16105 ай бұрын
Conan is widely more liked than Leno, and he's still working on successful projects. Hardly seems like a backfire

Conan is the GOAT 🐐 considered a legend and major influence on all the biggest comedy writers like Bill Hader, John Mulaney John Oliver, the list goes on and on. Jay Leno’s name never comes up in comedy circles these days. So yea I don’t think it “backfired”
